The Youth Advisory Board (commonly abbreviated as YAB) is a program which is designed to enable Scratchers to collaborate with the Scratch Team, providing insights about Scratch from a youth perspective and contributing to the continued growth of Scratch.
Members of the Youth Advisory Board will have the opportunity to participate in focus groups, product co-design, play-testing, mentoring younger members of the Scratch community, and more.
History
The Youth Advisory Board was first announced on Scratch on June 27th, 2024. The Scratch Team will check the applications and send an email to the parent of the selected youth.[1]
July 2024 Cohort
This wave of applications opened on July 1st, 2024 and closed on July 19th, 2024. Fifty users were selected[1] and notified on August 9th, 2024.[2] Out of these users, forty-four accepted their invitation to join the Youth Advisory Board.[citation needed]

Purpose
Scratch Team are looking for Scratchers who have:
- An interest in leadership opportunities within Scratch
- Had experience with the following:
- Created and led their own studios within Scratch
- Experience and passion for Scratch
As of July 2024, Scratch Team were asking for a six month commitment, and would accept up to 50 applicants.[1] The only requirement for the applicants is that they must be under 18 years of age.
Application
The application process was done in two parts. The first part was an online form and the second part was the creation of a Scratch project that addresses specific questions. The Scratch Team will also communicate with a parent or legal guardian as part of the process to make sure the applicant have their permission to participate in the program.
