The introduction

Scratch Video Updates (commonly abbreviated SVU) was a series of monthly updates, created by the Scratch Team. They were first used on December 5, 2014. They appeared in the Scratch News section of the homepage. Before Scratch Video Update 19, Scratch Team members Speakvisually and Ricarose hosted the video updates, before Ricarose stopped appearing and other Scratch Team members appeared in later videos. The series was active between 2014 and 2018, with one episode each in 2019 and 2020.

The song that plays at the intro, included since episode 20, is "Give Our Dreams Their Wings to Fly" by Tim McMorris.[citation needed]

Content

Inside each Video Update, there are sections. They are:

Love It- Projects, studios, and/or collaborations that the Scratch Team thinks are creative or have some other unique quality that they love will appear in the Video Updates.

Things to Try- Scratch Team events, World-Wide events, and other activities will appear in the Video Updates that the Scratch Team thinks are important, such as a new Scratch Design Studio or the Hour of Code series.

Messages from the Scratch Team- Information about new members, or other important Scratch Team information will appear in this section. Sometimes this section is a short informative clip about a part of Scratch's history.

These sometimes differ, along with the location of the updates. Sometimes Video Updates are at different locations, such as the 2015 Scratch Conference in Amsterdam or the lobby of the M.I.T. Media Lab.

History

The first Scratch Video Update was posted on December 5, 2014 in the Announcements forum.[1] At the time, it had no name and asked for suggestions as to a name for the series. The second video update declared the name to be "Scratch Video Updates" based on all suggestions.[2]

It was originally a bi-weekly update,[1] until it was announced by the Scratch Team on March 13, 2015 that the Scratch Video Update would become a monthly update.[3] However, the schedule slipped and there were long delays between updates since late 2016.

There is no Scratch Video Update 15, as Speakvisually clarified at the bottom of the Scratch Video Update 16 post.[4]

There are also two Scratch Video Update 26s and two forum topics named Episode 27.[citation needed]
