WikiMonitor Complaint!!
WikiMonitor keeps giving me messages on my talk page telling me that I`m not signing my posts properly... you know I am because you see all my messages and comments! I don`t know how I`m not signing them properly! my time zone is GMT because I`m in GB/United Kingdom/England!

- IT should be fixed now.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:33, 5 October 2014 (UTC)- It can`t be fixed! check my talk box and check the revisions and stuff! I sign my post properly and I sign them with the correct time zone!

Code
You should add a link to the source code on GitHub. It is right here. ThisIsAnAccount has a link to it's code.

Question
Will this script work on another Wiki? I am thinking of using it on another wiki (with your permission)
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:48, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Config
If you "don't want people messing with them" then why have them as online config pages? The whole point is so that people can make productive edits to them.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 12:58, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- No, the whole point is that it's easier for people to tell whenever I change anything and so it's easier for people to tell what's going on. If everybody edited them at will, then WM would be very problematic. Remember that simply because you can edit something doesn't mean that you should.

Talk Pages
I noticed on other bots' talk pages, when you went to their talk page it immediately redirected to the owner's talk page. Why doesn't this bot do that?
Purplebook163 (talk | contribs) 18:01, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- There's no particular reason besides the fact that I just never got around to putting that here.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)- Maybe that would be a good idea? Just a suggestion so that you don't have to check multiple user pages.

Categorization notifications
Hey there! I'm getting tons of notifications on categorizing my pages. I don't really get what that means, and how do I delete them once I've found out how to? Thanks! :D
Malik44 (talk | contribs) 20:41, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
- At the bottom of the page, put [[Category:YOUR CATEGORY HERE]]. Also make sure that the category exists by searching for it as if it were a page. If you're unsure where to find a relevant category, go to Special:CategoryTree.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 00:54, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
What's so important about categorizing?
When I uploaded a image for my profile, WikiMonitor said this:
It appears that when making the page File:Happylandsig.png, you did not include any categories. Please remember to categorize all new pages and files. Check out Help:Categories for details. Thanks!
How do I categorize and what category does it belong in?
Happyland440 (talk | contribs) 19:54, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
- As the message said, check out Help:Categories. A category is a way to show what your image is about and what type of image it is, and everything needs to be categorized so that we can readily locate all of the articles or files of a given type. To add one, put [[Category:CATEGORY NAME]] at the bottom of the page or file description. See Special:CategoryTree to find the appropriate category. In this case, I added a category to your image, but in the future please remember to add them yourself.

Other wikis
This may take time, but what about having WM running on the other SWs?
banana439monkey (My talk page | Contributions | Scratch) 17:36, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
- The code is publicly available, and anyone who wants to is allowed to run it themselves on any Wiki. However, I would rather not run it myself on another Wiki, since it's best run by someone who is very involved with the community on that Wiki..
jvvg (talk | contribs) 19:09, 13 April 2016 (UTC)- I guess it would need translating.
- banana439monkey (My talk page | Contributions | Scratch) 07:37, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- The messages it uses are stored as Wiki pages so that wouldn't be too difficult to do (at least coding-wise). However, I still would just prefer to avoid running multiple threads of WM at once, and I would like the one I do run to be on the Wiki I am most active on.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 11:43, 15 April 2016 (UTC)- Or someone forks it and they do it on the wiki they're most active on. Not this one though. Does wikipedia have something like WM? Do you prefer it to be on the SWs or other actual wikis like WP?

NoBots template
Should I add a NoBots template, so WM doesn't notify itself or another bot notifies it?
banana439monkey (My talk page | Contributions | Scratch) 16:11, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
- There's no reason that WM should notify itself unless it's having serious problems, in which case the nobots template probably wouldn't even help. There also isn't any reason any other bot would notify WM, since none of the other bots currently in use are designed to notify users.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 17:55, 20 April 2016 (UTC)- Ah. Unless GitHub injected some code or removed some.
- banana439monkey (My talk page | Contributions | Scratch) 15:59, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- GitHub can't actually change the code I'm running. Even in the event that someone managed to mess with the code on Github (which is vanishingly unlikely), it wouldn't change anything on my server unless I pulled the code, which I wouldn't do.

Please don't add {{April Fools}} to redirects
It appears that on April Fools' Day, you put {{April Fools}} on pages that are redirects. Please avoid doing this in the future, as in many cases it breaks the redirects. This can be done by detecting if the page contains #REDIRECT
at the start, and skipping it if it does. Thanks!
Please note that this message was sent by kenny2scratch in imitation of your message style. You can contact him on his talk page with any concerns.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 03:38, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
- The underlying problem is that people are creating AF pages that go on top of redirects. That is the problem that should be fixed. This is just a symptom of that. Also, about the message style, seriously?
jvvg (talk | contribs) 15:52, 1 June 2017 (UTC)- Well, as I see it, you have a few solutions.
- Get WikiMonitor to skip putting {{April Fools}} on pages with redirects.
- Make an admin bot that deletes that template from redirects and deletes AF pages that target redirects.
- Personally delete AF pages that go on top of redirects and delete future ones, and personally go to each redirect and delete the template from them.
- Announce that the template should not go on redirects (does not solve the problem, only prevents it in the future).
About the message style, yes, seriously.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 00:29, 2 June 2017 (UTC)- In programming the bot it isn't my job to fix the mistakes of the people who created the page. I guess I was mistaken when assuming that all the AF pages were supposed to substitute real pages. However, rather than adding extra code to the script I use, it would be a better idea to fix the problem of AF pages being on redirects rather than just the symptom of the template being placed on the redirect. This means that any AF pages that go on top of redirects should be renamed to whatever the redirect points to. Also, from what I am gathering from your message, you think that WM is doing this constantly. I actually only ran it once on March 31 to copy them all at once, you just keep discovering them.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:04, 2 June 2017 (UTC)- Oh, right, I forgot about moving pages. So shall we move all AF pages that target redirects to the redirect target? That seems fine to me.
I don't actually think WM is doing this constantly; I said in my message on April Fools' Day, but that's a moot point now that we have a solution.
TL, DR: Shall we move all redirect-targeting AF pages together? I didn't think of that earlier.
sorry for the late reply, but I was in the middle of a lesson

Okay, I'll start doing that then. Also remember, when checking to see if the pages go on redirects, to remove the template from the redirect too.

Make WikiMonitor ignore AF pages
WikiMonitor mentioned on my talk page that I forgot to sign my post on an AF page, although the AF pages are not talk pages. Can you make it so WikiMonitor ignores AF Pages (ones with the "Scratch Wiki:April Fools" prefix)?
Jammum (talk | contribs) 16:51, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- The CP is a talk page, which is why it detected it. I don't want to go through the trouble of modifying code (and possibly introducing other bugs) for something fairly minor. If you make any further edits to that page, if you mark it as minor, then WikiMonitor will ignore it.
