If you need help, your more than welcome to ask me, but I am probably not the best person to ask. I'm not as experienced as some, you're probably better off asking an EW, Admin, or trying the community portal.I am an EW as of June, 2017.- Be respectful. Everyone makes mistakes ;)
- If it's a question relating to Scratch, you're better off notifying me on my Scratch profile.
Thanks for reading! Your now more than welcome to leave a comment with the bar below!
I respect Wikimonitor a lot, so it is getting its own page.

The Scratch Mentoring Committee (or whatever its official name is...) and the Shop Directory
How "official" is the committee? Is it something that should get its own wiki page? I was considering making a page for it, but I don't know much about it so I wouldn't be very helpful.
Also, I was wondering the same about the Shop Directory. I know there has been at least three versions and it's stickied, so it is somewhat "official" and has a history.
I'm going to ask jvvg about this too. :)

- Sure I'll support you on it. But the fact is if you look at the community portal first thing on it is the HUGE Debate about the Scratch Mentoring Committee :).
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 15:10, 15 July 2015 (UTC)- Yeah, we've already discussed this - we decided to merge it with Collaboration_(group).

Hey there!
Hey! Could you possibly start working on articles for The Wiki Times's current issue? I am hoping we will be able to release the next issue on Saturday. Thanks for the help. There are two sections, one is the Scratch Website section and the other is the Scratch Wiki section. The article you write either goes under the Scratch section or the Scratch Wiki section depending on what your article is about. You can write your article on whatever you'd like as long as it stays within the Community Guidelines! Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Image Help
Hello! You said not to ask for help, but I'm going to do it anyways, becuase I know you know how to do this. :P
Anyways... I was wondering how I could post images to my wiki profile, I made a banner thing (http://i.cubeupload.com/nshbhd.jpg), but I'm not sure how to put it on my profile. It would be great if you could help. Thanks! :D
ZLGames (talk | contribs) 02:03, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Easy way, save a copy of the image on your computer as .png or .jpg, then upload it to the Wiki. That's how I did my logo and the UPC banner. Sorry for butting my big fat head in here Brains.

As an elected Experienced Wikian, I invite you to the EW+admin Skype chat. In it, we discuss wiki matters in real time.
To join, when you become an EW, post your Skype username on a page, then promptly delete said page. Only admins will be able to see the deleted content. If wanted, you can make a new Skype account for the chat only.
In my next comment I will describe some of the new rights that you will receive as an EW.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 03:18, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Your rights will be changed momentarily, but first we must discuss the rights you will receive:
- Confirm Account Requests - This is detailed and will warrant another comment.
- Deleting pages - You may delete pages from the pencil menu. However, only do so if there is community consensus, or the page is obviously bad.
- Rolling back edits - You may rollback a user's recent edits to a page by clicking "rollback n edits". However, be cautious because there is no confirmation window.
- Patrolling edits - You may mark an edit as patrolled. Normally, this is used to note that the edit follows guidelines and is not malicious. However, we don't use this feature.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 03:45, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- I understand :). Sadly I won't be able to make a skype account for another week, is it a problem if I join the group chat sometime early next week? Thank you for the congratulations! I will be active throughout the rest of the summer as I do not expect any serious conflicts to arise
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 05:56, 26 June 2017 (UTC)- That sounds beautiful.
- It's okay if you join in a week.
- Onto account requests. I'm going to copy Jvvg's comment for this, with some alteration:
- So about processing account requests, here's the basic process. Look through the request, and look to see if the user provides specific examples of something they would help with. This means that the requesting user must name a page and what they would add to that page. Alternatively, they may name a new page, like a tutorial.
- The other important detail to look for is a special word in their account requests. In S:CONTRIB, it is stated:
- I understand :). Sadly I won't be able to make a skype account for another week, is it a problem if I join the group chat sometime early next week? Thank you for the congratulations! I will be active throughout the rest of the summer as I do not expect any serious conflicts to arise
“ | Do include the word 'rocket' in your request so we know you read this page. | ” |
- This is to test Scratcher's reading ability, and to know whether or not they read S:CONTRIB.
- When processing account requests, there are three options. An account may be accepted, held, or rejected.
- An account should be accepted if it meets the above requirements.
- An account should be partial rejected if they provide an example more specific than "I will reference sources", "I will update old pages", "I will help New Scratchers with their games", etc., you should do what's called a "partial reject". If partial rejected, make sure to write down a reason why. Then you comment on the user's profile saying that they need to clarify in order to have their request accepted, and if they do provide the necessary information, go under "Held requests" and accept the request.
- An account should be rejected if it doesn't make any effort to provide am example at all. The user will not have any opportunity to explain further and must wait two weeks to submit a new one.
- After processing an account, make sure to notify the user about the decision on their Scratch profile.
- When rejecting, make sure to be both specific about why they were rejected, and be friendly. However, be somewhat vague about the special word. Example: "Your account request was rejected because you did not read all of S:CONTRIB. The page tests your read skills."
- Finally, and remember this, you can access the account processing UI through Special:ConfirmAccounts, or sometimes through Recent Changes.
- If you have questions, feel free to ask me!

Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 20:04, 27 June 2017 (UTC)- Sure!
20:07, 27 June 2017 (UTC) - Actually at the moment I can't see account requests since for some bizarre reason only EWs and Bureaucrats can but not admins. So I have to wait until I have Experienced Wikian added to my privileges again before I can. Sorry!
20:12, 27 June 2017 (UTC)- That is quite strange :/. I'll ask another EW then.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 20:40, 27 June 2017 (UTC)- This is probably an even stranger question xD, but I went to the list of EWs page and you are still listed as being a part of that group. Does the administrator positions nullify the EW group.

That's because I scmb1 just made me an EW again. Anyway, I looked at that account request. It was a pretty good request, too bad they forgot "rocket". Because they didn't have it, rejecting it was the proper thing to do. There has been a situation in the past where I got a fantastic request that forgot the code word, and I knew it must've been a mistake, so I said something like "Is there anything you maybe forgot?" on their profile and they figured it out. But I think you did the right thing here. They also failed to provide their strengths and weaknesses which is also in the guidelines. That was a tricky one, though.
20:46, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
- Also, it's usually 1-2 weeks before they can submit another request (more like 1), not 2-3.
20:48, 27 June 2017 (UTC)- The user knows it, but I would have still liked more detail in the application. I really just need to sync up to how everyone else here grades. Sorry about the 2-3 weeks, I kind of just copied that from Hamish752 when he rejected one b/c I was to lazy to write one up myself on a mobile device xD.

About your skype name page
You made a small blunder: you left the delete summary at default. Why this is bad: the default summary shows the content! I saw your Skype name and anybody who patrols RC will too. I'll contact jvvg about it, but I'm letting you know first because it's your Skype.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 13:48, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- That's alright. It's not really a big deal xD.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 14:11, 6 July 2017 (UTC)- It's still personal contact info, which is bannable for sharing. It's alright now though; KrIsMa did it.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 14:34, 6 July 2017 (UTC)- I didn't know that it was shared. I've never used the deletion log before, and I presumed that it worked like anything else. Now it's alright b/c it is fixed.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 14:38, 6 July 2017 (UTC)- Yeah.
- This is so weird! Even though you're an EW and I'm not, I seem to know a lot more about deleting pages! Well, the reason is because I'm setting up a wiki; I have bureaucrat privileges there (obviously) and I've deleted way more pages than you have.
- But yeah; when you delete a page you can provide an edit summary as usual; but the default summary is not blank; it's "content was: "page content preview" and the only contributor was Contributor." If there was more than one contributor, it doesn't say that last bit. You can also provide a common deletion reason from the dropdown, such as "Broken redirect".
- That ought to be the basics of deletion summaries :P
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 14:44, 6 July 2017 (UTC)- I find it hard believing that your are surprised by that. Good Luck with your wiki though. :D Thank you for that little summary. I'll keep that it mind. It should not really matter as much for future deletions. :)

User:Makethebrainhappy/CAS Studios is in the category "Makethebrainhappy" - not only does this category not exist, but userpages shouldn't be categorized in the first place.

How Do You Get A Higher Rank?
Hey makethebrainhappy, I was just wondering how you get a higher rank. I am assuming that you need to be active, create useful pages, edit pages to make them better and stuff like that. Is that how?
MClovers (talk | contribs) 03:00, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yes. To become an EW you need to run in an election which are held periodically. Administrators are usually selected, and other ranks are usually not given.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 12:47, 22 July 2017 (UTC)- Let me clarify:
- To become EW, you nominate yourself (if eligible) to run in an election. The current admins and EWs select some of the nominees to run, and then the rest of the Wiki votes for who they'd like to be EWs.
- Also, after/during each election the current admins decide on who they'd like to be a new admin.
- Bureaucrats are not elected or appointed - you have to be a Scratch Team member to become a bureaucrat.
- That should cover every rank. Hope I helped!
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 13:15, 22 July 2017 (UTC)- Most users do not become EWs and Administrators. From my perspective there is little which separates the different groups. We are all working towards a common goal, and that is the most important message. Ranks are secondary.

About the revert you did to Scratch Trends
- If you want to undo an edit, use undo instead of revert - it gives you an opportunity to explain and doesn't revert all the edits by the same user; and it's less drastic - revert is meant for anti-vandalism.
- Why did you revert those edits? If it was a misclick, you should undo your revert immediately after reverting by accident.

Why?
Why should I stop if Scratch staff decides to be so inconsiderate and unjust as to delete my account for no reason? I'd never caused any sort of drama on there and Scratch was my favorite place to be on the internet for over a year. But then they unfairly tore it away from me and couldn't even own up to their mistake with a simple apology or restoration of my account. Change is good. Especially the ones I am making. :) I understand your efforts and loyalty to your community, but this is not your battle to fight. Have a nice day!~

Well, I can actually. It's just on the "History" of the page. I click History, and then I click "undo" on the most recent edit (if it's vandalism). Simple as that, really. Why, am I not supposed to be able to do that?

Just to let you know
Vandalism is something we want to keep hush-hush - don't use edit summaries like "new SECTION- VANDALISM". Edit summaries like those have to be removed as well as the original vandalizing revisions.

- I don't think an edit summary like that is a big deal. We have nothing to hide and it's no secret that all Wiki's on the Internet get vandalized; we can't act like we are some sparkly perfect Utopia where nothing bad has ever occurred. Plus nobody really looks at recent changes and page history except very active members.

Confused about delete templates.
Hi, I had a Delete template placed on a page that I created here. This was added before I had finished adding all of the content to the page. At the time it was added, the page was pretty much a duplicate of another page, but it had the expand template on it and I have since added more precise content. Can I delete the delete template?
Python_megapixel (talk | contribs) 18:19, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- You add a "Delete" Template onto a page if you are asking someone who can delete it to delete. Please do not create new pages, and instead add on to existing pages. Your page is a duplicate of Scratcher, and therefore it is appropriate to put the delete template on it because it should deleted. We keep each topic condensed into one page. I'm not sure if your page adds any new, but I am sure that it could be put into the original page.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 23:49, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- Okay. I'll try and fit it into the original page.

- Okay. I'll try and fit it into the original page.
- @MTBH: Don't discourage new pages! The only problem with PyMega's page was that it's a duplicate. It's certainly better to add content to existing pages if the content you have is not enough for its own article, but if there's plenty of content then an article about it is welcome!

Would you be interested to be Scratch Wikis PR + Wiki Wednesday Manager?
As you posted this great announcement
and have been very acitive helping the international Scratch Wikis I am wonderig if you could be interested to get our "Scratch Wikis PR + Wiki Wednesday Manager". One of the monthly + most important PR matters is the Wiki Wednesday article and Lifay and me talked much about how to improve the procedure. See following Test Scratch Wiki CP threads:
The whole system of choosing and register a Wiki Wednesday Article for as many languages as possible does not work perfectly...Lifay still sends a Mail to a maillist with admins (but not all...) to announce Wiki Wednesday with a link where they can upload the choosen article of their language to a GOOGLE SPREADSHEET , but she can't care for proactive asking all langugaes as you did in the last months.
I suggested that all language forums could have a thread where everybody can vote for the wiki wednesday article so we create much more attenention in between the wiki wednesdays because of that voting process and involve every forum user and not only wikians or wiki admins. But somebody must care to set up an moderate that until it (hopefully) someday it mostly runs for itself. Lifay said that - if there was some person we could trust to care for it - this person could prepare and create the whole wiki wednesday article every time and it then would be transfered to the anouncement forum. Yesterday in the de:SC#19.02.2018 I sugested you for this role and she liked the idea. I hope you like it too?
MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 17:02, 20 February 2018 (CET)
- I also support MTBH being PR for us, by the way - they've proven themselves very good at advertising and they really help get attention for the Wiki. However, they recently said that they would be busy with being an SDS Curator - but we'll see.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 06:05, 21 February 2018 (CET)- I've looked through the threads and am interested in taking on these new responsibilities. I can work as a PR Manager to try and encourage new Wiki Wednesday activity. :) I will begin working on the next Wiki Wednesday immediately (Feb. 28th is the due date presumably?). As for my SDS Curator position, I will look for a few SDS Helpers who could help fill my shoes if necessary (it really depends on the popularity of the upcoming studio :)). Otherwise that should not be a large time commitment. :) Thank you for offering the position.

Wiki Wednesday pictures at the forum
An other (small) technical thing is, that the pictures used in the wiki wednesday anouncement can't be the original pictures from the scratch wiki, but must be uploaded at a separate picture platform. I think that’s because the forum needs the picture in the right size, but although the wiki can render a resizement of the pictures, it can not deliver this resizement as a link for the forum.
MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 17:39, 20 February 2018 (CET)
- Understood. :) Thank you for telling me this. I have already begun to work on a new format. It is similar to the one LiFay used, but I made it spaced-out more. Hopefully you will like the changes when it is released.

RU Confirm Account Responsibility?
There are 4 aplications waiting at ru:Special:ConfirmAccounts. Do you know who is responsible for confirmation there?
MartinWollenweber Talk Contribs Directory 15:08, 1 March 2018 (CET)
- There are no active admins there with Russian as their first language. I usually just accepted them but Ken was not happy with that process- so now he likes to email them before creating the account. Either way I could go and keep doing as before. It would be nice to find people who could take on that role, but I am not sure if there are any users who are active enough/experienced enough yet. Possibly candidates are the first Russian Scratcher, RuMaks and Mini_Kostik.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 15:33, 1 March 2018 (CET)- ja: got really active and independent, not before apple502 got admin. So it would be important to identify such a person in ru:
MartinWollenweber Talk Contribs Directory 15:58, 1 March 2018 (CET)- I understand that. I actually believe that RuMaks would probably be the best candidate based on his personal activity and understanding of the editing process. He does not speak English, but I usually google translate everything and vice versa.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 20:52, 1 March 2018 (CET)- What happened to Evgeny Patarakin? He was making so many great edits, and we all thought he would be admin - is that no longer the case?
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 01:53, 2 March 2018 (CET)- I do believe that he is an excellent Wiki Editor. But the issue is that he is not active enough on the wiki to take on this kind of responsibility. RuMak's is active on a weekly basis without being asked. If we are looking for someone to become admin, then that is what we need. Daily activity would be wonderful- but we don't have anyone at that level yet.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 02:15, 2 March 2018 (CET)- Fair enough. I've mostly stopped dealing with account requests on the RU wiki for now, by the way - I mostly focus on the English and Test wikis. If something needs my attention, I guess contact me there.

Scratch's browser extension policy
Yesterday, I fixed some errors on Snap! (programming language) that were caused by a certain machine browser extension that someone used to fix grammar issues (see the page's history). The name of the browser extension is now in many edit summaries on that page, and also in a talk message that I left on User talk:Garnetluvcookie as well as User talk:Bharvey. I now realize something that completely blew past me yesterday (thanks to this comment that inadvertently reminded me) — it's against Scratch policy to mention/advertise specific browser extensions or userscripts. This browser extension is very well-known (I'd be surprised if you haven't heard of it before); do you think this is something to be concerned about?
Thanks,

- Hi bigpuppy. Thanks for reaching out. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to keep the edit summary as is - I'd say that we want people to generally not utilize Grammarly or other similar services. Instead we'd encourage them to learn and practice what I would like to call style. I think the edit summaries are a good way to communicate this to individual editors and those monitoring RC while keeping it functionally hidden from our general userbase.
Makethebrainhappy (talk | contribs) 19:05, 25 June 2020 (UTC)- Alright, thank you for replying. But I don't know what you mean by "style." Could you elaborate? I told them on their talk page that if they use such tools in the future, they should check every edit it makes to an article.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 19:17, 25 June 2020 (UTC)- Wait, by "style," do you mean going through and fixing errors manually? I'd agree with that, though I don't see a problem if someone uses an automated grammar checker as long as they go through and make sure all of its suggestions will fix errors rather than causing them.
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 19:23, 25 June 2020 (UTC)- In a sense I'm talking about grammar and other aspects of editing language such as clumsy syntax. It refers to the general principles of editing as opposed to just the minutiae of grammatical tweaks. More specifically the reference is to Strunk & White's The Elements of Style - one of the most influential books regarding the principles of composition.

Scratch Wiki Project
I think this is not %100 related to Scratch, so I asked it here. I am making a callob to help people go through the Wiki. I asked @kenny2scratch as well, but they hadn't answered yet. I'm thinking of a guide about topics and FQAs. What do you think? Would you like to join? If I asked this in the studio, is that advertising?
