Compressing Images

TemplatesFTW has been reminding many people to compress images with TinyPNG. How would I do that? I cannot find any image upload buttons on the page it links to; it just says to click some buttons to get plugins.

Use https://tinypng.com/ to compress your images. This is what I use and what the bot (well, really kenny2scratch) recommends.

It also happens to be what the bot uses, as well!

We don't have native compression tools at least in part because we don't want to limit you to one type of compression. If you find a better method then by all means use it. TinyPNG is just what has proved best so far for my purposes and thus it's what my bot uses.

How would I use TinyPNG? When I go to their website there doesn't seem to be any user interface for compressing images, just a long FAQ section and a button to download a Photoshop plugin.

Assuming you use a mainstream browser, the version you have is too old! Do exactly what it says - try a different browser. Also, chances are if TinyPNG doesn't support your browser, then we don't really either. Beware.

I just updated and now I have version 87.0.4280.109 (Official Build) (64-bit), my device says it is up to date, and TinyPNG is still telling me to get Google Chrome version 25+, Mozilla Firefox version 20+, Safari version 6+, Opera version 17+, or Internet Explorer version 11+...

The globe icon in the reply boxes at the Scratch Discussion Forums says:

Since that seems to be the only difference between us, I'd hazard a guess that it's ChromeOS that TinyPNG doesn't like. You'll need to use either a real computer (not a Chromebook) or some other compression site that supports your OS & browser combo.

Uh, you said the same link twice. Anyway, it's by design that I link to my profile saying "my projects" - I don't want to say "my profile" because that implies my userpage, and "my Scratch profile" is too long for the sidebar, and I want to link to my Scratch profile, not just my projects.

A Question

Hi! I had a little technical question that doesn't really relate much to the Wiki's articles or editing, but I noticed that you have a cool thing on your userpage where when you hover over links you seem to have custom text in the bar that pops up while hovering. This page was created by you in your userspace. However, it mentions a Python library that involves Discord. I do not know if the page would count against Scratch rules (this wiki follows them as well) and would have to be deleted, but I think mentioning Discord is not allowed on Scratch (at least on the non-forum parts).

• We have a literal S:DISCORD page
• The level of CG scrutiny applied here is about equivalent to the forums, since the two of us go hand in hand
• I suspect the removals of even bare mentions of it are done only be a few overzealous ST members that think names have more power than they do
• I deliberately didn't put the actual name of the library in the title

Error and also question

Ok so, I am trying to make it so that User:XII_RH1N0 can edit my userpage, when I tried to add t|open userpage with 2 {'s on each end of the t|open userpage and hit "save" on my page, it told me I was trying to use bad words and I don't know why. I have it sceenshotted just in case. I am just confused. Also, I've tried a couple times and I still don't understand how to have it so people can edit my userpage. Is there anyway U could help?

You're not using the template right anyway. You need to put {{open userpage}}, not {{t|open userpage}}, on the userpage you want to open. I know why the filter triggered, but I think it's moot as long as you use the template properly.

Ah, you mean a Scratch project. I thought you meant it in the more general sense ("something to be worked on"). I'd still recommend looking at the Welcome tutorial for source material, as well as potentially the cheatsheet, at least for the part that is aimed at contributors. For the part aimed at Scratchers, it's admin policy not to provide any help with the account request process, so you'll have to consult others who are not admins if you want material related to that. Feel free to ask me more specific questions about anything else.

The bot cares about the proportional difference in filesize, not absolute difference. It was able to compress away more than 10% of the file. Not a bug.

It seems you've figured out how to revert it. However, assuming you're talking about File:Avery Alicorn's PFP.png, I don't see why - I can't detect any visual difference in quality (no change in resolution, no visible blurring/pixelation). Unless you can point out a specific visible difference, I'm going to ask you to revert it back to the compressed version - especially if this is going to be used in a custom signature or the like, minimizing the filesize minimizes page load times.

You can look at the source code for each of them (edit, but do not save, left and right) to attempt to read my horrible markup, but the general idea is have a element like so:

<div style="position: fixed; bottom: 0; left: 0;">...content...</div>

That places the "...content..." 0 pixels away from the bottom and left of the screen, no matter where it's scrolled to. The rest of it is just styling - you can look up tutorials on HTML and CSS to figure it out.
