Hey There,
i am just wondering, would you be able to make me a .js file like your Welcome.js file but instead of it being a wiki welcome, it inserts this instead --- My Help Thingy

Editing
When I edit an article, should I use American, Australian, British, or Canadian English?
Anonymous1212144 (talk | contribs) 23:35, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- English. This is an English wiki.
- If you know other languages you can also join those wikis.
12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 23:47, 4 March 2019 (UTC)- For consistency you use American English, though it is acceptable to use other forms of English, you should not mix them.[Source]
Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 00:04, 5 March 2019 (UTC)- @12944qwerty: I believe they meant American English, Australian English, British English, or Canadian English, since American, Australian, British, and Canadian aren't languages. And there's a page about it that Jakel181 has posted above.

Permission
do i have your permission to edit the article Welcoming Committee as LiFayTheGoblin is no longer a Scratch Team Member?
JJBullet (Talk ★ Contributions ★ 1,220 edits) 10:56, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Lifay is still a ST Memeber (still has more rights than the average scratcher) (She is a fourm moderater) just not part of the scratch team (full rights), also it's kind of funny you mention the article because we are planning to update the article too! But I think I can give you premission? to edit it snice I am part of the SwC as long as you don't make big changes to the article. :)
Jakel181 (talk | contribs) 12:03, 7 March 2019 (UTC) - If permission is required you might as well save your changes in a sandbox and present that to a person entitled to make the edit for review, then have them actually save it.

Need help with signatures
I can't figure out how to customize my signature - can you help me? What I specifically want to do is have the 3 buttons like yours, but have the 3 buttons say "Talk, Contribs, Projects" (with "projects" being my Scratch profile.) Can you help me with this at all?
Dominic305 (talk | contribs) 13:48, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Well, you can copy my signature for starters and modify it from there as you see fit; just make sure that when using it, you follow the correct method.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 13:49, 7 March 2019 (UTC)- Alright, thanks! I'll try doing that.

- I know, but what exactly do I insert in to "New signature"?
Dominic305 (talk | contribs) 21:29, 7 March 2019 (UTC)- In your Special:Preferences there should be a box that says custom signatures. Check off 'mark as wikitext'. THen in the txtarea, put in a translusion page to your signature as a template.
- For example, I put
{{User:12944qwerty/Templates/minisig}}
inside the box. I made User:12944qwerty/Templates/minisig include{{User:12944qwerty/Templates/Sig}}
. (This is to compact the wikicode when you put four tildes). - If it's still confusing, I can directly help you. (with your permission of course).

Dominic305 Talk Contribs (1,791) Scratch Directory 23:03, 7 March 2019 (UTC)- np!
- Just as a tip though, for your projects link, use this:
{{plain link|https://scratch.mit.edu/users/Dominic305/projects|Projects}}
- This removes the small box on the top left of the external link.

Extra equal signs in the welcome message
In the welcome message that is first on a new user's talk page, there are two = at the beginning, before the message. I know that both you and jvvg post this when you add new users. I've seen it on many talk pages, the easy fix is just to remove the two equal signs at the beginning. I know it's not a template, but just for future reference... please fix it.
EIephant_Lover Talk Contributions Subpages 18:54, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
- I have nothing to do with the extra equals signs being added, but I can't fathom for the life of my why that could happen. I don't deal with the accounts system, though, that's jvvg's area of expertise, so I'll let him know.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 12:37, 11 March 2019 (UTC)- Wait a minute! Special:Diff/223048
- You added the extra equals signs! I know what's going on, then.
- CodeMirror takes a couple of seconds to enable, and when it does turn on your cursor is reset to the top of the page. You must have typed the extra equals signs when adding the header at the bottom of the page.
- Why don't you just use the "new topic" pencil menu item when editing talk pages? That automatically adds the sections at the bottom.

- Unfortunately, that's not how protecting works. You can't protect by group and users...
12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 23:34, 12 March 2019 (UTC)- ...I was wondering what you were hoping to accomplish by having me protect your userpage. Protecting prevents editing by anyone except admins, including yourself. If you want to be able to edit it, you have to be okay with other people being able to edit it as well. (The exceptions are New Wikians, who can't edit others' userpages, and your *.js files, which are only editable by you and admins.)
- Do you want me to unprotect it so you can edit it again? Once more, either nobody (including yourself) can edit it or everybody can.

Questions regarding to procedures, formatting, and such
Procedures
- What are the procedures for creating a wiki page?
Formatting
- Does writing a signature work the same like writing text in a wiki page? If no, how do you write a signature? Also, how do you do that little icon on that signature and is it mandatory?
- How do you make a header?
- I'm confused with the formatting here, see the source for this post, it seems to like having everything in one line.
and Such
- I want to know what bots you have made.
Sti_scratch (talk | contribs) 07:02, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- Did you read S:WELCOME?
- S:CHEAT for formatting. S:NP for new pages. TemplatesFTW is the only bot I control.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 09:56, 16 March 2019 (UTC)- Lol. Sti Scratch, you may also want to look at S:NOSP and : * # are they only onese that get you to a new line. Pressing enter twice also brings you to a new line.

Question?
Hello! I have a question. First, how do you find pages that need editing/needed pages? Thanks!
SpyGuy9 (talk | contribs) 23:34, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi! You can check out all the pages in, and subcategories of, Category:Pages to Improve for pages that need changes to bring them up to par. You can also use Special:Random (the "Random Page" link on the left) to go to a random page, look it over, and edit that if it needs editing. Finally, Special:RecentChanges shows a list of changes that other editors have made recently - pages they edit might still need further edits, so you can look around there too. Good luck editing!

Talking through the mouse
Hello Kenny2Scratch,
I was wondering, how do you talk using your mouse? Is it JavaScript, or HTML, or what?
Thank-you.
Encodingdecoding (talk | contribs) 20:19, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- I should have a permanent link to this, every time I archive someone asks it again. The HTML "title" attribute adds hover text to elements.
<span title="hi!">Text</span>
- Text
- By the way, I recommend you read the Welcome tutorial - it's really helpful for someone just starting out here and it has a lot of useful information (such as how to sign your posts, which you forgot about here).
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 14:16, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Templates instead
I think we need templates for all of these. Especially for sigs, indents, and wikitext formatting. Almost every week, some person asks it over and over again.
12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 14:44, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- I agree. I am trying to do these things.
FireHorse27 (talk | contribs) 02:28, 4 April 2019 (UTC)- We already have a signature template! In fact, we have a tag for it: scratchsig. A template for custom signatures doesn't make sense - the sigs are supposed to be custom.
- Indents are explained in the Welcome tutorial, which all users are expected to read at least once. I think if someone obviously hasn't read it you can (kindly!) direct them to it.
- Likewise for wikitext formatting.

A question
Hi Kenny2scratch:
I was wondering about this. So, in the cheatsheet, it said you could do {{note}}text, {{caution}}text, etc., but that breaks the style guide. So I removed it. But then I noticed KrIsMa (talk | contribs) undid someone's edit in the past that did the same thing I think. Should I have done that? Thanks for your input.

The file that i uploaded recently (Banlistex.PNG) was deleted without any notification
Ideapad-320 (talk | contribs) 12:01, 12 April 2019 (UTC) to me.
- The image was deleted because its only use was in a page that got deleted.
- Also, signatures go at the end of posts, not in it.
Jammum (talk | contribs) 13:13, 12 April 2019 (UTC)- Why did the page get deleted? Without any notice to me?
Ideapad-320 (talk | contribs) 13:42, 12 April 2019 (UTC)- The page was deleted for a few reasons:
- It covered a topic that would probably be frowned upon by the Scratch Team (they don't like people excluding others from things)
- It was too short and couldn't really be expanded
- It was not useful
- You were not notified because I forgot to notify you so consider yourself finally notified.

I'd just like to mention to you that this is essentially a necropost and people usually don't like being corrected with regards to spelling. Additionally, it looks like you didn't read the indenting guide in the Welcome tutorial. Replies are to be indented with one more colon (:) than the previous post had at the start of the line. Pay more attention to that, and you're all set. Thanks for your activity!

Edit Count
Hello! I have noticed something about my edit count and the code for it, it seems as if the code:{{special:Editcount/TenType}}is higher than the edit count shown here. Why is that happening, is it occuring just for me, and which edit count is my real one?
TenType (talk | contribs) 00:25, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
- The edit count desyncing between transclusion and the page is a known bug.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 03:02, 13 April 2019 (UTC)- Okay. But do you know which one is the actual edit count, or is it unknown?
TenType (talk | contribs) 03:44, 13 April 2019 (UTC)- Unclear - one count includes deleted revisions and counts page moves as two edits; the other doesn't do either. Not sure which one should be the real one. I tend to go with the one on the page, though, because it's higher :)

12944qwerty Talk Contribs Scratch 02:06, 24 April 2019 (UTC)- On wikis where it is enabled, there is a special page to send an email to other users without knowing their email (MW sends the email on the sending user's behalf). Bureaucrats have the ability to block certain users from doing so by default.
- As others have pointed out, though, we have the feature disabled and therefore the permission is useless.
