Don't worry, I will. Basically, the "briefing" just entails reading a bunch of manuals I wrote. To start, read the basic technical manual. I will write a more detailed manual outlining the other stuff later.

How did you program the authentication? There is an error on Line 68. I tried making logininfo.php, and changed WikiMonitor to Krett12(I'm gonna run it on my main account). The PHP code for this bot is a lot different than what I've seen for other bots. Can you help me out?

Btw, you're going to need to do a find-replace and replace every instance of WikiMonitor in the code with the username you are using.

Actually, hold that thought. Only replace the ones where it looks like it needs to change. Don't change the configuration entries.

You should set it as a variable, so you could do like "User:$username". Or maybe even a constant, but I don't think PHP lets you include constants like that.

My standard in programming is never to use double quotes in PHP unless using escape sequences. I want text to appear as I typed it, and all of the capabilities of double quotes get kind of confusing.

I also found the error. I was using file_get_contents instead of curl_get. This means that if the request fails, it will try to parse anyway and crash.

Also, once I notify you that I am leaving for vacation (which should be the beginning of July), you should change User:WikiMonitor/Configuration/MessageSuffix to reflect that you are temporarily in charge. I also would recommend putting something on User:Tweaker (even if it's just a redirect to WM's userpage).

The bot doesn't detect the {{unsigned}} template as a signature, so just wait. It should say "sleeping XX seconds", and after that many seconds, it will send you a notification.

The way WM checks for signatures is kind of weird. Basically, it thinks it was fixed if the user who didn't sign makes any edits after that. Anyway, feel free to make more test posts either here or on other talk pages (be sure to remove them when you're done), but I need to go to bed now, so I'll see how it went tomorrow.

More WM problems

Every so often, the browser will stop checking and loading the PHP , and just show it the way it is, causing the bot to go off. Any ideas?

I believe I am running PHP 5.3.2. And I do have permission to update PHP, but I have been unsuccessful. But the problem may be the browser, not the server. It used to work fine. :/

Having Firefox 20 versions old is probably not able to interpret the modern-day PHP used in all of the WikiMonitor code. Out of curiosity how old is that computer? Is it like Windows Millenium or something? You could at least probably download Firefox 5 or 6 or something higher.

Firefox is not a PHP interpreter. That's not the problem. The connection probably times out. Is there any way you can update your local copy of PHP? It would be preferable if you ran the script locally.

No, it won't work that way. When PHP scripts run in a browser, they have a time limit (usually 60 seconds or so). You need to run it locally in order for it to work. Please try updating PHP on your computer so you can run it.

Actually, now that I think about it, running it in a web browser would be very problematic. It would cause a lot of undue stress on the server (it will make unnecessary HTTP requests), and many features would probably not work properly. Another potential danger is that the it will attempt to log in too many times (if you log in via the API too much, it temporarily blocks you) and then it will entirely stop working. If you can't get it working locally in terminal, please don't run it.

It blocks you from logging in too many times. You generally can use the API almost unlimitedly (for the scope of WM, you can do all of the necessary queries), but the login API is limited to prevent brute-force attacks. If you log in too quickly, it blocks you from logging in again for 5-10 minutes.

It's a pretty cool place. Some of the architecture is a bit weird, but it's still a nice place. The problem I have is that nobody from my school has gotten into MIT for as long as I can remember.

This is kinda a weird conversation. I like any cookie that has milk chocolate. Since I compete, I can't eat cookies that much anymore. I need to stay lean.

I do a sport too, which is exactly why I eat so much. However, I do distance running, which consumes a huge amount of calories (like at running camp last year, I ate on average 4K calories per day).

At Help:Redirects it doesn't say what is a good redirect and what is not a good redirect to make. I think this is why there are so many not useful redirects. Even I am confused whether a redirect is good or bad ;) shall we make some rules on creating redirects or bring this up in the cp (or is it only me that doesn't know? :)
