Ninja'd me
^^^ TenType (talk | contribs) 00:43, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Lol, sorry.
I had to, though, since it happened to me once. I guess I half-ninja'd you, though, since I accidentally posted the timestamp instead of my signature the first time around.
Also, thanks for patrolling so much today!

Small addition to userpage
Personally I think that you should add in the <!----text----!> (not sure what they're called :P) that the user is free to look at the page source. It's fine if you don't want to, I just didn't add it in because I'd be breaking userspace rules. Garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 18:48, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- They are called comments. Yes, I think this is a good idea, thanks for suggesting that I do this!

Question!
Hi! Can we leave messages that are not for editing/adding too? (I'm new to this. )
PeppapigX10 (talk | contribs) 17:44, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hello! Welcome to the wiki, we're happy to have you here! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're talking about whether it's okay to leave messages that are not related to editing the wiki, right? If so, you are allowed to on user talk pages, but not article talk pages or the Community Portal. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions!

About deletion of your edits on CP
That's weird. Looks like my browser used the old cache. Sorry about deletion. :) ahmetlii Talk Contributions Directory 19:06, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- That's okay; I figured it wasn't on purpose. Thanks for letting me know, though!

Good luck!
Good luck with being elected to become a wiki admin! You deserve it. ContourLines [ Talk ~ Contributions ~ Directory ] 12:45, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, good luck Bigpuppy! You really earn it. Fingers crossed! It's looking good so far...

You are an admin!
Congrats!
ahmetlii Talk Contributions Directory 10:32, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! I hope I can do well with these permissions!
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 14:16, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
As an admin
Hi and congratulations on your promotion! I'm here to give you a sort-of introduction to the admin role.
Your new permissions
These are permissions you now have. A lot of them are irrelevant to this wiki because we don't use the features that entail them, but admins have them because those permissions are granted to sysops (underlying technical name for admins, in case you didn't know) by default. Instead I'll go over the ones I can think of off the top of my head that are useful, and/or the ones we actually use here.
protect
: This is the most significant one here, I think. You can now protect pages by choosing "Protect" from the pencil menu. (No more asking someone to protect your archives - you are the someone!) Our protection levels are:- (none): All users can edit.
autoconfirmed
: All users can edit, but they get a big banner saying "you are editing a protected page" that can be indimidating and might make them consider their edits more carefully.wikian
: All Wikians can edit. This is most users, but some are in fact restricted. Used on guidelines pages and their kin.botplus
: Bots, EWs, and admins can edit. Used on pages that should really be protected at EWplus but also need bots to update them regularly, like S:NEWS.EWplus
: Only EWs and admins can edit. This is the level we use most often - used for talk page and S:TT archives.sysop
: Only admins can edit. This is the level you have recently accessed - used for very high traffic pages such as the main page, its redirects, most of its transclusions, and some high-use templates. (Also apparently used for old talk page archives, probably before EWplus was introduced.) (The permission that allows you to edit this iseditprotected
.)
editinterface
: You can now edit pages in the MediaWiki: namespace. These pages control the text in the actual wiki interface - for example, the text of the "save changes" button is controlled by MediaWiki:Savechanges. You can find out what pages control what text on a certain page by adding the query parameteruselang=qqx
to the page URL.abusefilter-
*: You can now edit Special:AbuseFilters, which among other things include the bad word filter. Be very careful with these, because a wrong move can lock even admins out of doing something. Jvvg and I know the most about these.undelete
: You can now restore pages. This is seldom used but it has come in useful at times.deleterevision
,deletelogentry
: You can now hide (and unhide) specific revisions of a page, without deleting the entire page. You can also do the same for Special:Log entries. This is mostly used for hiding personal information, but has sometimes been used for vandalism as well. (No need to ask someone to do this anymore!)deletedhistory
,deletedtext
: You can now see all deleted revisions as if they were still there.
Basically, a lot fewer permissions are withheld from you now.
Permissions still withheld
Here's a few that remain reserved for bureaucrats, though. I mention these only because they actually are given to admins by default, but are not on this wiki.
block
: Self-explanatory. Used for vandalism and occasionally for accidentally-created accounts.checkuser
,checkuser-log
: View IP addresses and other information about an account. Used for alt detection.editaccount
: Set users' email addresses, passwords, and real names. This is what I have been using to handle account request troubles.
Invitation
Alright, I know I've asked you this before, but this time I have to be a little more demanding than before. Please join our Discord server - you're an admin now, and a lot of our admin coordination (including the discussion that got you promoted) happens there. You'll miss out on a lot of things (many of which would probably need your opinion) if you're not there. I've left my details in a deleted page so that only admins (including you now!) can see it. Send me a friend request, and I'll DM you an invite link.
Conclusion
Congratulations on your promotion! You have been the most consistently good editor I've ever seen, and I hope that this will let you do even better. Wiki on! kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 11:32, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Can't Find My Wiki Page
I started writing my own article based on the website https://scratchstats.com/, but I cannot seem to find it, because when I type up the title of it ('Scratch Stats'), it keeps on directing to a different page... I think I need help to rename it.... but I still need ot find it. Do you think you can help with this?
Inventortolu (talk | contribs) 12:52, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- The page was changed into a redirect for Scratch Statistics because a page on scratchstats.com would violate one of the Wiki Guidelines.
Jammum (💬 Talk - ✍️ Contribs) 13:10, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- As per Jammum. Unfortunately, ScratchStats.com is user-generated content. Thanks for wanting to improve the wiki, though!
bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 14:17, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oh... Shame. I'll have to find something else to write about, then! Thank You anyways!

Userpage needs updating
Since you became an admin (Congrats!), you haven't updated your user page to show that. "I'm an Experienced Wikian here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!" should be "I'm an admin here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!". (Also, I know my custom sig is a bit lower than usual. I'm fixing it once I submit. Or it's not )
♥ garnetluvcookie ♥ | ♥ talk ♥ | ♥ contribs ♥ 12:38, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Bigpuppy is still an Experienced Wikian, so the statement is still true. Bigpuppy became an admin, but also he is still an EW - because of the elections.

Wiki servers are really slow
Is there any real reason for this? Pages on the wiki take 30 seconds or more to load.
garnetluvcookie (talk | contribs) 23:48, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- I thought that was just me! Recently, each page has been taking at least 15 seconds to load for me, but other websites (including Scratch) are fine.
Groko13 (talk | contribs) 23:51, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- This is partially caused by a change made to server configuration and the German server provider.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 23:58, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, it's so slow because of the files on the server and server's internet speed. Also, the speed can change because of client's internet speed and geographic position.
ahmetlii Talk Contributions Directory 07:42, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not necessarily, I live in the UK, however, while geographically, I'm quite close to German, server speed can be unreliable.

Makey Makey
Hello -
It has come to my attention that for some reason, there are no tutorials on how to use the Makey Makey extention, or any other hardware-related extention, for that matter. The only articles I could find on the subject are the block pages, as for every category, there must be.
This is strange... I haven't seen the Wiki fail me ever!
What should I do? Should I write some articles or something, create a new category... this seems big,
like the other programming language tutorials.
Mohie (talk | contribs) 20:20, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- You should probably post about this on the community portal. Then other's know about this issue...
ContourLines [ Talk ~ Contributions ~ Directory ] 06:15, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- No instructions are necessary because of its simplicity -- the extension only has two blocks both of which detect key presses.
Naleksuh (talk | contribs) 06:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- As per ContourLines; the Community Portal would probably be the best place for a question like this. In response to "I haven't seen the Wiki fail me ever!", this is a wiki, so it is ever-evolving. If it doesn't have content about a certain topic, that's just because the editors of the wiki haven't written about that topic yet.

Inserting images and editing image captions
I need help figuring out how to insert images and edit image captions. Do you have any tips? Thanks! ButterySaltedPopcorn (talk | contribs) 14:18, 15 August 2020 (UTC)ButterySaltedPopcorn
- After you've uploaded a file at Special:Upload, you can insert it into a page with

. However, most pages will have them as thumb images; you can make those with
. For example,
would make the image you see to the right.
- You can edit the caption of an image by going into the page's source code and editing it in the code for the image. For more information about uploading images and adding them to pages, see Special:Upload. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions.

I have a question...
I was wondering how you add the "leave me a message" on your userpage? And how do you add a table of contents? Thanks!
Mtech22 (talk | contribs) 21:39, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello!
- This is the code for the inputbox, you'd need to replace my username with yours:
<inputbox> type=comment default=User talk:bigpuppy hidden=no buttonlabel=Leave me a message! </inputbox>
- I'm not sure where I originally got that code, but in general to make buttons like that, you use
<inputbox>
tags. - Table of contents boxes should be added automatically at 4 topics (I believe), but you can make one appear earlier with
__FORCETOC__
and move it around with__TOC__
. Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions.bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 13:58, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
TurboWarp
Ok, got it! I hadn't realised that it's not allowed to create pages about Scratch mods. (By the way, is there a way of replying to other people's posts?) Qucchia (talk | contribs) 14:32, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for understanding! Yes, you can reply to someone's post by adding another level of indentation below their post. For example, I added one colon at the beginning of my post for one level of indentation. After around six levels of indentation, we do an outdent.

Updating Images
If there is an image that is from 2.0, is it alright for me to update it to a similar image from 3.0? Illusion705 (talk | contribs) 16:41, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, unless it is specifically meant to show the 2.0 version. Also, if the category is Category:Scratch 2.0 Program Images or something else with "2.0" in it, make sure to update it to the 3.0 equivalent (so in this case, Category:Scratch 3.0 Program Images) if there is one. Thanks for your contributions to the wiki!
