But If You Close Your Eyes

Should I add this trend? It's been pretty popular recently.
ScratchCatHELLOpfp.jpeg ScratchCatHELLO talk contribs user 18:06, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

I think it is notable enough.

Remove Black Lives Matter from this page

 Unresolved (see all...)

It's not a Scratch trend, so why is it on this page?
The2000 (talk | contribs) 17:43, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

No No Support. While I see your point, there are lots of projects about Black Lives Matter, enough that I would consider it a Scratch Trend, even though it didn't originate on Scratch.
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 19:31, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
No Also no support. While Black Lives Matter is a social movement that by itself is not inherently related to Scratch, it is not unprecedented that a Scratch Trend will reflect a larger-scale social movement, such as LGBT icons.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:05, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
If we're going to include everything relevant that made its way to Scratch, why don't we include COVID-19? I remember there being an infinite amount of projects about it when quarantine began. I don't think that we need to have a section for literally everything that gains some attention on Scratch. I recall a section on the "distraction dance" meme being removed, so what makes this any different? Edit: Additionally, the LGBT icons are something that can be definitively traced back to Scratch. I do not see any such distinction for the Black Lives Matter movement in general.
The2000 (talk | contribs) 01:42, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
There's a difference. Black Lives Matter is a trend, although not exclusive to Scratch. It's not a physical thing, but goals and ideas spread through protests and social media. Covid-19 is obviously a disease. It's not manmade and it's a physical thing. So even if there are lots of projects about it, I wouldn't consider it a trend.
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 05:15, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
If we can demonstrate a common Scratch-specific thread among COVID-19-related projects, I think it would be reasonable to include that in the article too. I am not familiar with the "Distraction Dance" trend myself, but if there were a large enough amount of projects under it, it would be reasonable to include.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 19:33, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Here you go. However, I still don't think that every single trend from the internet that made its way to Scratch should be considered a Scratch trend. If we classified it that way, then this page would go on forever. Scratch doesn't exist in a vacuum, things that are popular on the internet are also popular on Scratch. If this page is used to describe internet trends that have very little to do with Scratch, then it will lose a lot of its value.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Notice how the title is "Scratch Trends", not "Trends that originated from Scratch."
Lovecodeabc Links: talk (new topic) | contribs (815) | directory 14:50, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

If you purchase "Italian food", you probably expect it to be food that originated from Italy, not just any food that ended up in Italy at one point or another. If you hear someone say that someone had a "British accent", you probably expect them to be describing an accent that is most common in Britain, not the accent of a foreigner who went there once. If you read an article on "Scratch trends", you probably expect it to be trends that originated from Scratch. If that isn't enough for you, then read literally any other entry on the page. The only ones that aren't specifically tied to Scratch are ones that were inescapable on the website specifically at one point (coloring contest, animation memes) or a notable fad on the site specifically (lyrics taken literally). Not to mention the moral implications of describing the Black Lives Matter movement as a "trend". The Black Lives Matter section reads like a Wikipedia article and fails to prove that this is significant to the history of the website beyond an ambiguous "Many people on Scratch are peacefully protesting for this by creating Black Lives Matter projects and studios, along with putting it in their forum signatures" (yes I know that it has citations, but there are projects and studios about everything imaginable).

That's a good point. I change my mind. Yes Support.

The best place for all knowledge about Scratch is here in the Scratch wiki.

Well, it also depends on how you interpret what this article is supposed to be about. If it's all Scratch trends then I agree with The2000's point that Covid-19-related projects should be a trend as lots of people make Covid-19-related projects. However, if we are only talking about trends that emerged from Scratch then I think that the Black Lives Matter movement shouldn't be considered one since Covid-19 isn't. Personally, I think both should be kept/added.
J_Coder26 (talk | contribs) 14:41, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
I agree that the way the article is phrased is a little bit unrelated. What if it were changed to be about use of the phrases BLM and ALM on Scratch and what the Scratch Team has said about it? That might be better off in it's own article, though--it's not a trend, in that sense.
Queer_Royalty (talk | contribs) 11:46, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
Yes Support I'm just gonna say I agree, don't wanna get controversial when I explain why.
MadaraWitDaSharingan (talk | contribs)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Yes Support This might be a bit late but it about time to remove it, controversy is too much over the limit for some, so just remove it before it sparks a conflict.
LokiBlaster-Icon.png LokiBlaster | Talk Page | Contributions 17:02, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

I don't think controversy is sufficient reason to remove content. It is our job to document everything (or at least what the Scratch Team allows us to document) related to Scratch, and we should also be neutral in doing so. By removing the section for fear of controversy we show that both we are fearful of it and we are failing to document something that had a significant impact on the Scratch Community.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:05, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
No No Support. Just because Black Lives Matter didn't originate on Scratch doesn't mean that it didn't have a large effect on it. The Scratch Team even made a post about it in the Announcements forum.
Jackson49 (talk | contribs) 23:38, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Yes Support. Personally I think it should be removed to prevent any people of colour being offended by BLM being considered a trend. idk just my opinion.Edit: I also think that the murder of Floyd ruins the lighthearted nature of Scratch and The Wiki. It even says when signing up for the Wiki that it is meant to be a fun place for both the editors and the readers. I highly doubt murder is a fun topic to read about.
PiranhaBoss (talk | contribs) 09:49, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
Yes Support 99% of BLM happened outside of scratch. And it isnt really a big, recurring thing either.
Killian757yt (talk | contribs) 16:55, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Removing the Trends section and making each trend its own section?

On the page, currently it has a trends section that is a list of every trend. The issue is that subsection headings and sub-subsection headings look the same. That makes it to easy to skip over the text saying it is the next trend while reading.
Ideapad-320 (talk | contribs) 16:58, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

I support. To be honest I think the current structure is an artifact from when they were all in one article with four (very big) sections.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:06, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
I highly support. I agree with what you said, it is very easy to just skip over. Each one needs it's own section.

AYF??

@GvYoutube What does the F stand for? You said it could be called AF or AYF, but AYF would be what? The section is called "AddYourself_____", so we probably shouldn't fill in the blank in the section - what does it mean?
Han614698 H Logo.png han614698 talkcontribs (2,477)profile 01:16, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

@Han614698 The F stands for fighting. AYF stands for Add Yourself Fighting.

@Ninjahanzo How is that more important to be included than Add Yourself Dancing etc would be?

@han614698Add YourselF.

@Purin2022, @Ninjahanzo — I personally don't think it's more notable than AY. I think this isn't a super important thing to include in the article.

@han614698 — I agree. It doesn't quite make sense to be honest.

Removing the «/Furries» from the Animal Characters/Furries section

Please don't take me wrong here — I don't hate furries. In fact, I actually support them and find them interesting.

There's a difference between antropomorphic animals and furries (e.g.: Scratch Cat is an antropomorphic animal, but not a furry).

  • An antropomorphic animal is an animal with human traits
  • A furry is a person being part of the Furry Fandom

What I mean with this is that OCs cannot decide by themselves, as being a drawing that decpicts the person, but is not the person.
