Scratchers cannot ban each other
Often people think that Scratchers can ban each other. This is not true and this article should emphasize it. Also, if you ever read someone saying "so and so banned me", you should point out that only the Scratch Team decides this and blocks accounts based on evidence not on the claims of a specific person. --

- Done... :) At the first part, it mentions that not everyone can ban users and lists who can, and in each section it says who can ban people there.

Wiki banning
It says only bureaucrats can ban people, but it says here that WeirdF (who was never a bureaucrat [1]) blocked someone. Is the article incorrect?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:50, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah we used to be able to ban people, but then the evil bureaucrats took our powers away >:(
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 12:55, 6 April 2011 (UTC)- For safety reasons - hey, if they were fussed about security, they'd take away JSOadmin's powers; that account isn't needed anymore. :P
- Wish I could ban :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 03:24, 7 April 2011 (UTC)- Why?
- Also Scratchteam.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:56, 23 April 2011 (UTC)- What are you saying "why" to?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:29, 23 April 2011 (UTC)- I think it's to the ban power.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 23:46, 23 April 2011 (UTC)- Do you have any specific reason to want to ban?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:11, 24 April 2011 (UTC)- well, psychologically people want to have power. banning is a power. he is a person, so ∴ he wants more power.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:14, 24 April 2011 (UTC)- Exactly :3 :3 :3 (This is so silly xD) (Don't worry, I was just making a joke about the "wish i could ban" ;))

Wiki ban link
Should I include a link to Special:Log/block, the ban list for the wiki. There aren't any vandals there, but still...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:51, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Shouldn't We Update The Forum Ban Page? Good Thing I Made An Account On May 9 To Test The Signup System. This Is It.. We Could Ask Someone To Ban It.
Mrsrec (talk | contribs) - sure, why not?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:10, 24 April 2011 (UTC)- It's the list of banned users. There is a reason mods and ST don't talk about banning people in public.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:18, 24 April 2011 (UTC)- hmmm... good point. idk.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:22, 24 April 2011 (UTC)- The most recent account on the ban list was a messup btw — people might get confused :S
- And yeahhh since the user list on the Scratch forums is hidden, I don't think we should publicize the ban list here either.

Images for muting
i got some images on muting https://u.cubeupload.com/dogsmakemehappy/Screenshot2021030212.png and https://u.cubeupload.com/dogsmakemehappy/23bScreenshot2021030212.png . should we add them? they happened back to back so it seems like the filterbot get stricter as time goes on.

Splitting muting into its own article?
I think it may be worth making a new article about muting specifically (and linking it from here in the See Also section or something), as it has now become a topic that is fairly notable on its own and comes with a lot of controversy, and it is also significantly different from bans in that it's automatic and much shorter term while bans are manual and require an appeals process.

- Support: Support! Mutes and Bans are two separate levels, although the former tends to be a light form of punishment. If you want, I can start working on that page. 20:48, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Possible Clarification on How Some Bans are Unappealable?
I have recently read the new cited source; on its own it seems confusing. The Wiki states that main accounts can be used to send appeals, whereas the article explicitly states that users with unappelable bans should not contact the Scratch Team at all to appeal. In addition, IP bans aren't mentioned to be appealable or unappealable. Perhaps another source via the forums/comments (from a Scratch Team member) should be added to clarify these two claims?
dhfbei8987 (talk | contribs)
- From how I read the article, the bans of alternate accounts are unappealable, but the ban on the main account is appealable (though upon successful appeal on the main account they may unban the alts). Alternate accounts are just one specific case of unappealable bans, they can happen for other reasons. I do not know about IP bans and appeals, which is why I did not add anything about them in that section.

Sharing Bans
I personally have never seen any ban like this, and there is no citation either. Is this really a type of ban?

Ref 3
I'm a bit confused as I've never worked on this article before, but reference three seems to not lead to any post of relevance. Even upon using third party searches, they all return post 6447165, the correct one, which is about the offline editor, nothing to do with this article.
han614698 talk • contribs (2,087) • profile 20:10, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- @han614698 — The editor who added the ref was presumably trying to add the post below it, 6447796, but they obviously added the wrong one. That post by jvvg talks about warning given to people attempting to create an account when an account(s) on the network has been banned, so presumably this has something to do with at least 1 of the 5 mentions of the ref. (probably not all though - at least not 3a).
