A suggestion/question about indentation in replies

On the English wiki, when talking on talk pages, we indent every time, e.g.

However, on the international wikis, we indent whenever we're replying.

I feel like our system is a lot more straightforward, but the interwikis' system is a lot more organized. What do you think? Should we switch or just stick with our system?

Question has been posted at least once before (don't know where - looking through the archives give me a headache). I believe the consensus was to do whichever you wanted.
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 02:59, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
Hm, but doing whatever you want is even more confusing than either of the two, though...

This is interesting! :)
I mean, if we switched, it would be confusing because all the older posts are using our regular system.
But I can see how the other system is better for understanding what's happening in the conversation... I actually don't know what my opinion would be on this. :P

What about outdenting? It will create problems.
Yzyzyz (talk | contribs) 14:09, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Outdenting should happen less frequently with the latter system; it might even just not be needed. On the former system, we have to outdent before the small space breaks formatting.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────there are a lot of topics that require outdenting even in the new system. also, User:Yzyzyz/Sandbox#proving_my_point.
Yzyzyz (talk | contribs) 15:11, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Personally, I think we should stick with the current system. It's a lot more straightforward, and just easier to understand and write in general.
Drunken_Sailor (talk | contribs) 21:51, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Agreed, I think we should also keep it the way it is as well.

Should I create this page?

Should I create a page about advertisement? I mean advertisement as in commenting on a featured project or anywhere else it shouldn't be.

That might be a good idea... Maybe an FAQ page, like Where are the right places to advertise?

New Account

Hi I have made a new account [1] for my shop of help shop project on Scratch. How do I create a new account on here, or change my username so that this matches my account on Scratch??
Minerman6 (talk | contribs) 17:34, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello! Generally,
  1. Unfortunately you cannot create alt accounts. We also don't allow accounts made just for shops (why do you require a separate user for a shop?)
  2. We can't change usernames
So unfortunately we cannot create a new account for you :(
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 18:13, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
Only bot owners have two accounts, Sorry.
Purplewolves (talk | contribs) 18:17, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
I am not creating two accounts. I am going to delete my old one and stick to the new one. I want my usernames to match on Scratch and here so I will be having one account, apart from now where I have two accounts on Scratch during the transitioning period. I want to setup my new account on Scratch bypassing the requierments for memebership as I have already passed them once. Is this possible to do with the new information I have given you.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I think you've gone a bit to far. As KrIsMa stated, the scratch wiki has a different system to the Wikipedia (not to mention our rules are very different). Accounts can not be deleted, and as Apple said you have a choice whether to use your current account on the wiki. Or just go inactive.

Wiki Wednesday

Hello everyone, it's that special time of month again. Gather around as we have another Wiki Wednesday!

This is a tradition dating back for 20 months. We as a community get together to pick an article that shares insightful, cool information about Scratch. It will then be advertised on the front page of Scratch for everyone to see. Anyone may suggest an article, and all it takes is editing this page.

When suggesting a page, it's recommended that it has a few images and follows wiki guidelines.

Deleting my Talk Page

Yes Done

Hi

I want to delete my Talk page on the Sccratch Wiki. To do this I need to reach a consensus with the people of the Scrath Wiki. Please let me now if anyone has any objections to this.

Hamish752

Welcomed me to the Wiki and told me to put my posts at the end of the Talk Page. I see no benifit of this post being on my talk page if I am not as it is ony aimed at me.

Informing me not to delete topics of the Scratch Wiki Community Portal. If I no longer have an account this serves no purpose than a warning for me. If I am not using the Scratch Wiki then I cannot comment on the portal

Apple502j

Warning me that my account will get banned. As the wikipedia rules do not apply on this site that information is factually inaccurate and therefore should be deleted on that basis.

Telling me that the talk page has to remain open. As I am requesting it to be closed I see no reason to have that comment which conteracts what I am trying to do. That post was aimed when I deleted my talk page. As I am not going through the proper channels of communication it serves no purpse.

Posts from WikiMoniter

I beleive that you are alowed to delete bot messages.

I hope that this sums things up for people and I hope I have included enough information to puersuade the communtiy that I do not want to have a talk page any more.

Well, you've posted - now for a response from one community member.
Delete. I say this should be fine - you haven't exactly been very active for the past year or so, so I don't think anyone will really need to contact you. The discussions on your talk page seem to be useless (as per your points) or done now, so they can be safely removed.
Oh, yes, you can delete bot messages - you can go ahead and remove WM messages from your talk page now, actually.
Note Note to future posters: Include either Delete or Don't delete in your post for a quick summary of your opinion.

The bug in WM has been fixed. Also, the curator update script is separate from the main WM script, so NoBots won't actually do anything (the curator update script doesn't check for it).

A question about the Privacy Policy and DMCA pages

Why do we have them if almost all they are are the Privacy Policy and DMCA word-for-word? Shouldn't we have a summary like the Terms of Use wiki page has?
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 15:23, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Privacy Policy is there for the footer link to link to in the Vector skin (in Vector, there are three links at the bottom of every page - "Privacy policy", "About Scratch Wiki", and "Disclaimers"). I feel like both that and DMCA should actually document the corresponding documents, though, instead of only copying them word-for-word (it's good to have the policy and DMCA in there anyway, though).
However, I suspect the main reason they are simply word-for-word copies is because no one really knows how to document them - so if you can, feel free to do so.

Switching Hosts

Hello everyone! There is tons of news to share with you right now.

The Scratch Team will be transferring ownership and hosting of the Scratch wiki to @MartinWollenweber. The main reason for this is that the ST hasn't been able to spend much energy caring for the wikis. With the transfer, we will gain full autonomy and control of the website, allowing us to respond to all requests, incidents, and needs very quickly.

In addition to the move, we will be switching web domains to en.scratch-wiki.info. The Scratch Team will maintain wiki.scratch.mit.edu for one year, and possibly longer depending on the amount of web traffic going to it. The Scratch website will also, hopefully, support links to other language wikis.

During the move, we will upgrade Mediawiki to v.1.29. Bot owners, please be aware that API token requesting will be different. Scratchblocks will be updated as well, causing invalid scripts in places.

The transfer is planned to happen in early 2018. An official time will be announced later.

There may be potential problems with the move. When the DACH wiki moved to its current server provider, some files were truncated. We will be looking out for potential issues like this.

Feel free to ask questions!
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 01:53, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Some FAQs:
Why is the Scratch Team doing this?
As Scratch grows, the Scratch Team has not been able to divert enough attention to the Scratch Wiki. The transfer should allow us to divert our own attention to it much more thoroughly. Though this transfer will further disconnect us from the main site, the Scratch Team still plans to have Wiki Wednesdays and keep the link to the Wiki in the footer.
Will Scratch policies, Community Guidelines, etc. apply on the Wiki?
All policies will likely still apply, with the possible exception (I think) of personal info (since ConfirmAccounts uses emails by default).
Why couldn't we have backend access before?
The Scratch Team can't give backend access to MIT servers to non-Scratch Team or MIT staff members.
That should answer some potential questions.

When you say the ST will maintain this domain for a year, what does that mean? Redirect? Mirror? Host the old version? I would assume redirect, but in that case what's the harm in just leaving it up indefinitely?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:09, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
"maintain" in this case means redirect - i.e. all requests to wiki.scratch.mit.edu will be forwarded with the same path to en.scratch-wiki.info. After a year, the Scratch Team will decide to continue or not to continue supporting the domain based on web traffic.
Kenny2scratch logo.jpg kenny2scratch  Talk  Contribs  Directory

Additional Infos:
  • The Scratch Team says that it has not the capacity to mantain the Scratch Wiki in the way it should be cared for and that it wants to strengthen the Scratch Wiki by the opportunity to care for mantainenance itself (FTP, Addons, server...)
  • I think the Scratch Team asked me to host the english Scratch Wiki, because I'm hosting all other Scratch Wikis for the international Scratch Wiki community since years and our community is active since has Scratch launched in 2007. So we alteady prooved the experiance and the long-time interest to care for the community as good as possible.
  • FTP-Access will be given to admins of the english Scratch Wiki, so the community themself will mantain the english Scratch Wiki what will be a big advantage regarding possibilities to fullfill the needs of the community much better and faster than before. Many admins of the english Wiki have alredy experience with that job by helping the international Scratch Wikis, see FTP access here
  • The "bureaucrat state" that today is hold by Scratch Team members will be hold by me and long time admins. I'm not interested to get deep involved in admin work at the english Scratch Wiki, so this will continue to be done by elected Scratch Wikians themself.
  • The Scratch Team rejected our sugestions to have an own main-menu-button for the Scratch-Wiki and to bring back the menu-button for the forum. We suggested: "use an icon for both, so there's is enough menu-space". They said it's not only about the menu-space but they want to strengthen the communication at project-, studio- and user-pages. They said statistics showed, that there has been no decrease of forum-posting after taking away the menu-entry.
  • The Scratch Team promised to continue Wiki Wednesday, so this strong connection between Wiki and website will continue. Also the Scratch Wiki link in the footer of the Scratch Website will stay
  • The Scratch Team promised that we will have "blue clickable links" resulting from all kind of edits containg Scratch Wiki Links at the Scratch Website. This will not only refer to the english Scratch Wiki like today, but also to Scratch Wikis of all languages (today edits with links to this wikis result in nonclickable url-adresses)
  • The Scratch Team said that for legal reasons they will have to implement a kind of warning like "you're leaving Scratch website" when changing to the Scratch Wikis. We hope this will be as restrained as possible.
I hope we can concentrate on the advantages here. As I see it, the Scratch Wiki community loses not much, but wins a lot of freedom. Which suggestion do you have for using that that freedom?

MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 21:34, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
will there still be a link to the wiki in the scratch footer?
JonathanSchaffer (talk | contribs) 20:11, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
@JonathanSchaffer "Also the Scratch Wiki link in the footer of the Scratch Website will stay" - Mtwoll a few lines up.
Drunken_Sailor (talk | contribs) 09:38, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── More information after discussion yesterday:

  • I said in the FAQ several replies up that there might be an exception made for personal info in the Community Guidelines on the Wiki. This has now been confirmed[citation not needed] by scmb1 - the Wiki collecting emails for ConfirmAccounts will be treated the same way as the Scratch Team collecting emails for Scratch accounts.
  • If it wasn't mentioned before, during the transfer the Wiki will be put into "read-only mode" - a mode where any actions that affect the database are effectively disabled. This is because when the transfer happens, a snapshot will be taken of the database - and any database-modifying actions past then will be lost.
  • As Ernie mentioned in the OP, there might be some truncated files after the transfer/upgrade. We will be looking out for issues like these.

Good question! I think that you should only use citations in another language if:
  1. No citations exist in English, AND
  2. The citation is from a more reliable source (i.e. an experienced Scratcher, and not a New Scratcher). Use your own discretion as to who is "experienced" or not.
Seems sensible?

The design of 3.0 blocks will be changed much, and <sb> doesn't offer these. There are some ways, but I don't know which to do.

  • Use <sb> (As Scratch 2.0 design)
  • Use images
  • Use no blocks before the plugin is updated

Let's fix ScratchSigs with underscores ONCE AND FOR ALL, shall we?!

I just thought of and tested a way to fix ScratchSigs involving underscores (e.g. the_scratch_voice's signature is currently broken). The solution? Change MediaWiki:Signature to the following content:

{{{{{|safesubst:}}}#tag:scratchsig|{{{{{|safesubst:}}}#replace:$1| |_}}}}

That's all there is to it! Now ScratchSigs will work correctly for name with underscores!

This is long overdue, but I updated the sample request notes for the new S:CONTRIB system (the one with the flawed article). Since I requested an account so long ago and with a very different system of requirements, I want input from people who have requested on the new system. Could everyone please take a look at it and let me know what you think? The page is EW-protected, but I would still like feedback so that we can make it as helpful as possible.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:44, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Oh, actually... I realized you were talking about this, not the flawed article; sorry, Coolcat98! :P
Anyway, I'm still not sure that the key word should be added there, since then it would give it away... Maybe a different key word (since the sample request notes don't use the same flawed article anyway)? But then it would give away that there is a key word, so someone could just skim S:CONTRIB until they found the key word (I'm not saying someone would do that, but it's possible).

WikiMonitor for the next week

For the next week I'm not going to have access to my Pi, so this means that it will be running on unmanned mode. I have the script set up on a four hour timer. This means that it will run normally, but if it crashes or is shut off, it will automatically attempt to restart four hours later. If it is still shut off four hours later, then the cycle will repeat and it will check again four hours after that. However, this means that if any serious bugs come up (i.e. that would require shutting it off), I will not be able to fix them until I return and WM should remain shut off. However, if someone does shut it off without a valid reason, revert the edit and things should resume to normal within a few hours.

Cosmicat

Hey guys, (or editors, wikians or Scratchers, I didn't really know what to say XD) recently I've seen rumors that Scratch Cat will be replaced with 'Cosmicat' for the upcoming Scratch 3.0. My question is, should I make a page? Here's a pic (for proof) CosmiCat.png I've seen it in pictures of prototype 3.0s and it's mentioned on the project 'Scratch 3.0 Design Concept' (or something like that) by @-lo- (I think).

I'd appreciate your feedback on what I should do!

A change to the current Wiki Wednesday system

So, we have had two systems concerning Wiki Wednesday so far: the old system, simply posting on the CP, and the current system, posting on the CP to remind people but using Scratch Wiki:Wiki Wednesday Suggestions. However, both of these systems are slightly flawed - they don't allow Scratchers without Wiki accounts to suggest an article! So our most valuable point of feedback - the users - can't give feedback at all. To solve this, the interwiki admins (including myself) have come up with forum threads instead.

How the forum thread system works
What happens with the forum thread
  1. Previous Wiki Wednesday ends
  2. New post in the forum thread: "The last Wiki Wednesday is now over! Check it out here (link to announcements post)! Suggestions posted on this thread will now be for the next Wiki Wednesday, on (date)."
  3. Scratch Wiki:Wiki Wednesday Suggestions records suggestions (whether it records rejected suggestions is TBD) and links to the new post. ( Doing...)
  4. When it's close to Wiki Wednesday, the admins send an email to LiFaytheGoblin with their final choice
  5. Repeat from 1

This is the proposed system. Feel free to submit any thoughts or suggestions, or perhaps tweaks to the system! If you have a reason that you don't like the system at all, also feel free to post it - we are open to suggestions.

I like this idea; it's cool that since not just the editors can use the wiki, and someone who's not an editor finds a cool article that really answers their questions, or they think is useful or interesting, they could suggest it on the forum thread.
+1.

How do you add a picture to a article. I already uploaded it.
The_scratch_voice (talk | contribs) 03:29, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

To add a picture, use the following:
[[File:(file name).(extension)[|(size)px OR thumb][|(float)right OR left][|link=(page title to link to)][|(alt text)]]]
For example, the following:
[[File:SandCastleIcon.png|200px|right|link=Scratch Wiki:Sandbox|alt text]]
produces this: (look to the right)
alt text
Hope that helped!

NO accounts can be deleted. Also, it shouldn't be done to ban one's account for wiki-breaking. It bans the IP,too, so if you've used your account in public wifi,proxy,schools,etc... , they are also banned. --

Accounts can't be deleted, and blocking is unnecessary simply for a wikibreak. Just don't log on while you're on your break!

Apple, I'm pretty sure autoblocks happen only if you set it to autoblock, so not necessarily.
As kenny2scratch said, just log off and not log in! If it's tempting, forget your password (by unchecking the box that says 'remember your password' if that's set) or even change your password to something you will forget, and then 'forget password' when you come back :O
happy wiki break!

Announcement: Scratch Wiki EW Election 2018

To the wiki community,

On behalf of all the Scratch Wiki administrators and EWs, I am proud the announce that the fifth EW elections will be held in Feb, 2018.

You can find all of the relevant information on the election page: Scratch Wiki:Elections/February 2018 and the nomination page. Visit this page to learn more about being an Experienced Wikian: S:EW.

Please take a look at these two messages for some relevant information:

In this election, we are looking for people who intend to lead the project going forward, as I plan to leave in a few months. If you nominate yourself, be prepared to be one of the main leaders going forward. See the thread below for more about this, and as always, please ask if you have any questions.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 23:15, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

To be completely clear, this means that you should be willing to dedicate your time to learn how to run the Wiki and do the many great things Jvvg does for us, along with commit to remain active on the Wiki for hopefully a long time. Please do not nominate yourself if you just want to "lead the Wiki" for a bit then become inactive. While of course you will have the rest of the EWs and admins to help you, take a moment to think about just how active Jvvg is on the Wiki. This is important, and we look forward to meeting and discussing with whoever is voted!

Oh and FYI that quote from St19 is no longer as relevant as it was back then - jvvg is now (supposedly) officially inactive, and it was only the last election where jvvg's departure was part of it.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Hi! I have some questions.

  • I'm a bit nervous to talk about the election with anyone on the wiki (outside of asking questions and stuff, of course) because of the rules (specifically the advertising rule). Are we allowed to do this? I'm pretty sure we are, but I wanted to ask just to be sure.
  • I realize that on one of the last election's CP sections some of us who voted were saying that we voted. Would this have violated the talking about people's votes rule?

Thank you! :)
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 01:48, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Or just talking to people about the election in general. :)
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 01:56, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Candidates may not advertise themselves outside the speech, but talking about the election in general (like saying there's an election) is ok. People saying they voted is also ok - saying who they voted for is not ok. Hope that clears it up!
Kenny2scratch logo.jpg kenny2scratch  Talk  Contribs  Directory
02:29, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
What Ken said is correct. We don't really want these votes to be politicized. The rules are in place to insure that Wiki members vote for the candidate(s) who they feel will perform well at the job.

Election candidates

Our candidates for this election are:

  • bigpuppy
  • Drunken_Sailor
  • kenny2scratch
  • -Vuton-

If you were chosen, please start working on your speech when you get the chance. Once your speech is ready, we'll post it on the election page. For everyone else, voting will open on February 2nd. Good luck to all candidates!
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:00, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

I've prepared my speech, it has a total of 103 words:
Hello! I’m -Vuton-, I’ve been part of scratch for 3 years in total (other accounts). I joined the wiki as I found it helpful, and I wanted it to stay that way. In my time here, I've worked on the help pages, revamped pages, fixed a massive bunch of grammar errors, contributed to discussions, made new pages, welcomed new users and much more. I've also started my own wiki, and have had lots of practice with the markup languages used on this wiki. If chosen, I would make sure to be active, helpful and welcoming at all times. Thank you.
Vuton Logo.png -Vuton- (Talk 💬 | Contribs 💾 | Pages 📚) 21:26, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Here's my speech. I wrote it on the "Pages" program on my computer and then copied it over to here. That program tells me the word count, so I think I met the requirements. :)
My speech, and the word count, starts at the word "Hello"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, Scratch wiki! I’m really glad you’re reading this, wherever you are in the world. Actually, I should introduce myself; I’m bigpuppy. Over the course of this speech, I will tell you why I personally think I’d be a good Experienced Wikian for our wiki. One reason is because I’ve worked in multiple different collaborations on the Scratch site (There isn’t just one EW on the Scratch wiki; there’s a team of different Wikians, so that’s why I’m mentioning collaborations). Also, if I became an EW, I believe I would try my best to keep the wiki going, and keep it efficient. Thank you for your time.
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 22:09, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I added both of your speeches to the election page.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 03:35, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

My speech is the next line (from the colon to the end of the line, 108 words)
Hi! I'm Kenny2scratch. I'm a sysop and bureaucrat of all the international Scratch Wikis. You may ask: if I'm an admin on the interwikis, why do I need to be an EW on this wiki? Answer: since I'm already helping so much with administration on the interwikis, why should this wiki be left out? Additionally, I'm hugely active on the English Scratch Wiki, as you all can see. As an EW, I would have many new capabilities for improving the wiki, like confirming accounts. I know the account request process better than some existing EWs, and would help frequently. Thanks for your consideration, and for voting. Wiki on!
That's the speech ^

jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:43, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Here is my speech! Sorry for the delay.
Hey there! I’m Drunken Sailor, a friendly and active Scratcher who has been on the Wiki for over 8 months and has over 3 years’ experience on Scratch. In that time, I have made over 1,000 edits, with 300+ of those being mainspace. In this time, I have also optimised interwiki, translating pages across wikis and interconnecting languages. I have much experience with MediaWiki elsewhere, especially administrative tools, and would be in my element if I was elected. As an EW, I would maintain a friendly and happy Wiki, as well as helping new users. I would also be able to contribute much more to interwiki. Thank you!

A mistake in the Scratch News section

Hello! Oriquack here. I think there is a mistake in the Scratch News section of the Wiki Home. The new SDS, Scratch Rewind: 2017 was created at January 7, 2018, not 2017. :)
Oriquack (talk | contribs) 08:32, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

No, the news is correct. A "Scratch Rewind" is when people remember what happened on Scratch last year, and people share their stories of what happened. It's 2017 because you're remembering what happened in 2017. :)

Return of the Wiki Wednesday

Hello everyone, and gather around, for I have exciting news for you! Wiki Wednesday is coming up, and it's time for us to come together and pick an thoughtful article for all of Scratch to read.

For those new to the process, all you need to do is submit a proposal on Scratch Wiki:Wiki Wednesday Suggestions, and one will be featured on the front page of Scratch.

The guidelines for a proposal are that it's interesting, has an image, and follows guidelines. That's it!

Scratch on!

p.s. If you're feeling really adventurous, there are often amazing articles on other language wikis that we don't have. ;)

Yeah, I think it'd be cool to announce Wiki Wednesdays on the Scratch News section of the front wiki page. I agree. :)
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 17:28, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Wiki Wednesday is already shown on the front page...? It's the Scratch Wiki Home/Featured Article section.

I think asqwde meant on the Scratch News. I think we should have it on the Scratch News, possibly with a link to the forum topic, so people can see all the featured articles on all the different wikis. :)
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 16:16, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Yeah. That is what I meant.

Support! Anyone opposing the idea? -

How Do You Categorize Images?

I need help. I want to categorize an image, but I don't know how to do it. Can you help me? Thanks.
Dilek10 (talk | contribs) 13:21, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

When uploading a file, it asks for a file description. In this box, type a description, and then after it type [[Category:CATEGORYNAMEHERE]]. This will automatically add it to a category. A common image category is Category:Users' Images. This is for images that are for personal use, for example on your userpage.
Drunken_Sailor (talk | contribs) 13:53, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Yes; in the future, if you need help on this, you can check out this section of the image upload page. Good luck! ;)

Next election

When will the next election be as I missed the nominations for this election?

Logoasqwde.png asqwde talk | contribs 10:37, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

There is no set schedule for elections - we basically hold an election whenever we feel like there are too few active EWs. You can figure out the average frequency that that happens by looking at the elections main page.

Results of the February 2018 EW Elections

The winners of the February 2018 EW elections are (trumpets blaring) Kenny2scratch and Bigpuppy! Congratulations to both of you and much thanks to all our candidates for their contributions to the Wiki.

archive

There should be a new archive. This one is getting long.

Not now. When it becomes 125kbyte+, we should think.

Sorry!

I changed a lot of links to () Is Greater Than (), which is wrong, so RC is full of "canned edit summaries". Sorry!

Making "See Also" alphabetical

Hi! Recently, I went on some pages and made the "See Also" section on them alphabetical. If there is no certain order that they're supposed to go in at the moment (please tell me if there is), then I think this would be a good way to go for the future! What does everyone think?
Bigpuppy Logo.png bigpuppy talk ▪︎ contribs 14:59, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

I've always done them alphabetically. To me, there are two ways it can be done: most relevant stuff, or alphabetically. Since most relevant stuff is sort of subjective, I say alphabetical.

When should I make a archive

Hello. When should I make a archive of my talk. Any opinions?

Logoasqwde.png asqwde talk | contribs 21:52, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

I recommend once you feel like the page is taking a long time to load, but it's completely up to you.

The wiki will be transferred tomorrow.

The English Scratch Wiki will be transferred to its new domain at 14:00 (UTC) on Friday. Point your links to the new domain now, if you have any; and be warned that this domain will be frozen starting from around 13:00 UTC, and will never be unfrozen unless something goes horribly wrong. Change any links you have to this domain, to the new one. Thanks.

Urgent!

On the new domain of the wiki my userpage looks like my old one that I had like 2 months ago. What do I do?

Logoasqwde.png asqwde talk | contribs 16:01, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

What's there right now is just a test using old data. When the transfer happens, we will make a fresh copy, so everything will be updated.

I think I crashed the new Wiki

I am so so sorry, but I think I crashed the new wiki by visiting the page https://en.scratch-wiki.info/<script>alert(document.domain)</script>

I am really sorry and won't do it again. Please forgive me and also fix the issue. Thanks!

Wait, what -- using a proxy shows that the Wiki does work... what's going on?

Either way, this could be a self-DOS issue which could be exploited by sending someone a link or embedding an image pointing to that URL. Of course, this is assuming that that's the reason for why the Wiki wasn't working for me.

Jokebookservice1 (talk | contribs) 01:25, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

You haven't crashed it...? that link is a 404

Must have been a fun coincidence then. When I visited that link, the server stopped responding to requests from my IP and I was getting time-out errors. Thank you for confirming! Yes Done

Okay, the issue persists, and I can't access the new Wiki unless I use a VPN.

Try this: https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/Scratch_Wiki_Home

Using a proxy, both URLs respond, but the second one has a status code of 404. Without a proxy, neither of the pages respond
Jokebookservice1 (talk | contribs) 03:29, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
Whoop, sorry, the second URL I gave was a 404, it's fixed now. They should both be ok. If you're not working without a proxy, then your IP has been banned from those sites...? Try using a different computer.
