Category Section Check(?)
The category section needs to be caught up such as the: work in-progress category, the projects in need of deletion category, the merge catgegory. Does anyone want to do a category check, just to keep it clear. Thank you! :)

Update wiki
According to the MediaWiki download page, it says
“ |
To MediaWiki ≤ 1.22.x, 1.24.x and 1.25.x users: Support of these branches was discontinued. Please update to a newer version of MediaWiki |
” |
– The MW download page |
According to the page that displays the version of the wiki, the SW runs v1.22.7. This means there is no longer any support for the SW's version. I think this wiki should be upgraded to the latest version of MediaWiki. If this wiki were to be updated, it should not be updated to any version apart from the most recent version. Why? This means the wiki has a longer support life.
16:01, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- However, there is a big MW backend change in MW 1.24, and anything 1.24+ will likely break multiple extensions. That requires extra time and effort to fix so the wiki runs smoothly. I've upgraded all of the international wikis from 1.23- to 1.26, and I know it is somewhat painful.
- I also remember there was an incompatibility between MW 1.27 and ConfirmAccounts... That alone breaks the camel's back, as it is. I haven't tested ConfirmAccounts with the latest version of 1.27, but there is likely some trouble.
- I know 1.23 is a MW LTS version, but that gets discontinued in May 2017...
- It looks if we upgrade MW, then we have to go through the process of extension updating, ect...
- I vote for MW 1.26 for better extension compatibility. Plus, MW 1.26 is also a LTS version.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 16:11, 4 November 2016 (UTC)- 1. *1.23.15 2. We can update the extensions and the skin, so they work better with the wiki. 16:15, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- The adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind here. Is there anything actually wrong with the current version of MediaWiki or a feature that the new ones offer that we would actually use? If the answer is no to both of those, there's no reason to update. While it may no longer be officially supported, if there aren't any actual problems with the installation, there aren't any actual problems that hinder operation of the Wiki. That being said, if there are actual features that we would use (I haven't read the changelog yet so I don't know myself), then it probably is worth upgrading. In that case I could probably make the necessary fixes to ConfirmAccounts fairly easily, but I do believe that we would need to make some pretty major changes to the skin to make it work.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:14, 4 November 2016 (UTC)- The international wikis run using an altered version of the Scratchwikiskin that works with MW 1.26. We could use that if anything.
- Otherwise, valid point jvvg. Does upgrading give us anything important?

Ok, so I'm looking for a template that I saw on an article that said something like "This article is about ___. You may be looking for ___." or something like that. I wanted to use it but I couldn't find it. Anyone know what it is?

What's the difference between these two?
What's the difference between Scratch_Wiki:Table_of_Contents/Website and Scratch_Wiki:Table_of_Contents/Front_Page?
Also, is there an article where I could link to? I couldn't find a Wiki page for it because I put it on Scratch_Wiki:Table_of_Contents/Website.
GlassGalaxy (talk | contribs) 03:58, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
- It looks like we don't have an article for About. That's something anyone could make.
- There doesn't seem to be a difference between the two ToC articles, besides that /Website looks better. Looking back historically, it looks like /Front Page was intended to be the graphical copy of the website, and /Website was a table of links. However, in September 2014, /Website was updated to be a graphical copy of the website to be "more convenient for visitors".
- In hindsight, we should probably consolidate all links to point to /Front Page, and revert Website to a table.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 20:48, 13 November 2016 (UTC)- Yeah ok. Making an article for About is going to go on my to-do list. Yesterday I was working on making /Website look better and somehow I stumbled upon /Front Page and I was curious. c:

Wiki Wednesday
Hello and welcome to another Wiki Wednesday! It's already an exciting time of year, so let's make it better with a nice, wholesome article. :)

Cleaning time!
As of the time I write this, we have...
- 11 pages in question of usefulness
- 42 articles in need of expansion
- 23 pages that don't meet Wiki standards
- 27 stubs
That's 103 pages that need improvement (there are some pages in two categories, so in reality it's a little smaller), but that's still nearly 10% of the pages on the Wiki. With Scratch 3.0 coming sometime soon, a lot of people will probably forget about the existing pages and instead focus on the new pages that will need to be created or updated. Before that happens, we should try to make the pages we do have as good as possible, so I am encouraging everybody to take a look at those categories and do what's possible to fix them.

Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 01:23, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
- Not as long as you're sure no existing category exists for what you're creating and you correctly categorize the category. Someone else may modify or delete your category if necessary, as is true with all other contributed content.

protect template
Should there be a protect template? I once suggested one before.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 20:15, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- Most of the time that pages need to be protected, either an admin is actively involved in creating it (like the Scratch Wiki documentation pages) or is the one who decides it needs to be protected (like edit wars), so I don't think a template is necessary.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 20:55, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

I've noticed that there aren't any references to Slatch around here. Is there a reason for this?

Candylanguagegirl (talk | contribs) 17:44, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
What actually is "Slatch"? If it's a popular thing, it will go in "Scratch Trends". If you're still unsure, ask quite a lot of people what Slatch is. If most of them know, put it in Scratch Trends.

Ban list
Sorry if someone already said something about this and sorry if this seems like gossiping and sorry if this seems disrespectful, but there is something that lets you see a list of banned users on the Scratch Wiki.

Done and Not Done Templates
Not done
If there's a discussion that's not resolved, shouldn't it have the Not done template, and a discussion that is over should have the Done template? It doesn't appear that any (except the first) have either at the moment.

Wiki Wednesday
Welcome to another session of Wiki Wednesday! Wo!
For those unfamiliar with this tradition, the Scratch wiki picks an article that is written well and, preferably, has some images. We then feature it on the Scratch website for the entire month.
Please leave article nominations below!

Yes, we are implementing that suggestion @banana439monkey.
Report looks bland. Currently it talks about what reports do, and how to report something.
Scratch Design Studio looks more interesting.
List of Obsolete Blocks seems the best because you get to explore Scratch history through its blocks.
Thank you for the suggestions everyone! :) Feel free to continue suggesting!

It's been a while.
Hey guys. I'm not sure how long it's been since I've posted here, but I just want to inform you that I have gotten into a remixing issue on the main Scratch website that I don't think is ethical, yet the Scratch Team thinks it is. I will not be giving any more details.
This is causing a schism between me and the Scratch Team, and despite my reporting and protesting and posting on the Suggestions forum in an attempt to make things better for my integrity, I am seriously considering leaving the Scratch website as a whole and moving on to a place where I have more control over my content.
I am sorry to say this, but this is what has happened to me. The situation is still unfolding.

Logo author
Hi! I'd like to create SVG version of the wiki logo (Wiki.png file). Now, I guess, the original logo is Wikipedia logo (Wikipedia-logo-v2.svg file). I tried edit the WP logo, but I cannot find all colors, used in gradient. Does somebody know, who created the SW logo? I found, that “Wiki.png” file was edited by Lucario621, who is Scratch Team member; but he is not active now (last edits were in 2014, last activity on Scratch site was year ago). I cannot find something about on Community portal archive (pages 40 and earlier). — Dmith (talk | contribs) 15:38, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
- What purpose precisely will the SVG version serve? The Wiki can only display bitmap images.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 20:48, 23 January 2017 (UTC)- I can upload it to commons.wikimedia.com, replace Official Scratch Wiki Logo.png for Scratch Wiki article. Besides, SVG is more scalable format.
- Anyone knows, who created new Wiki logo with the World sphere? — Dmith (talk | contribs) 08:33, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Creating a page about emulation on scratch
I was wondering if I could get any help possibly creating a page about emulation on scratch. We have several emulators now, with the new addition of the nes emulator by @bobbybee
NitroCipher (talk | contribs) 21:07, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
- Griffpatch seemingly has a pretty cool emulator https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/113321949/ - I suppose if they are fairly popular then they could merit an article indeed. Now the question is if the article would be called "Emulator Projects" or just "Emulator". If it is just "Emulator" then it will also have to cover non-Scratch stuff, stuff about real emulators outside of Scratch. Otherwise it can mainly focus on Scratch with the "Emulator Projects" title.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 21:18, 23 January 2017 (UTC)- I think that it should talk about emulators in general, but have a major focus on ones created on scratch.
NitroCipher (talk | contribs) 21:27, 23 January 2017 (UTC)- Either works, as long as long as everything ties back into Scratch related topics.
- I'll leave it up to whoever makes the page.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 03:50, 24 January 2017 (UTC)- I think I'm in favor of "Emulator Projects" while having a sub-section in the article that explains emulators in general. Similar to how Computer Science explains stuff.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 04:15, 24 January 2017 (UTC)- I wouldn't mind seeing a page about emulators, but I'm worried that some editors may add content about them in the context of gaming, or give low-quality tutorials. (Some Scratch projects claim to be "emulators" but really just give fancy user interfaces.) If a page about emulation is created, I would like to see it have accurate information relating to CS (interpreting, virtual machines, instruction sets, etc.).
Chibi-Matoran (talk | contribs) 02:17, 29 January 2017 (UTC)- I will try to gather some information on the subject. Would you mind helping me work on it?

New Wikian Question
I am brand new to being a Wikian. I would assume it is improper to delete and remake a page even if cited as "Not a proper guide" and "Contains opinions"? I am wondering because I would like to fix How to Make an OS (that was one of the things in the wiki application). Please tell me.
Analogclock (talk | contribs) 21:48, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
- I think by "delete" you mean "wipe clean and start fresh". I have done that before a few times on articles, sometimes it is very difficult to update the information there and easier to go with clean slate. Though what I recommend, if you are going to completely wipe and rewrite an entire article to improve it, write the article to completion before going through the actual process of updating the article. Finish it, review it, and 'then' wipe the current stuff and replace it with the new.

Scratch Wiki TODO lost
So, recently, I was asked, why I try create SVG of Wiki.png, becouse the wiki cannot use files, other than bitmap pictures. So, what about Scratch Wiki TODO list? Does it nothing mean? Why the first point «allow SVG <…> to be uploaded» was not accepted? SVG and OGG file formats are open; the Wikipedia allow upload SVG and OGG. We can upload scalable version of bitmap pictures and sounds from Scratch. — Dmith (talk | contribs) 08:44, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 01:51, 26 January 2017 (UTC)- Can anyone find any documentation of this?
- I don't know of documentation but I know it's true (if you are talking about being paid). Moderators are not paid at all. Scratch Team members get paid, but not moderators, they are volunteer moderators, and there is no way to ask the ST to be a moderator, they'd go to you if they wanted you to be one. but I'll be brief with you NitroCipher, don't get your hopes up. You have only been on Scratch for 1 year 8 months, and there are about a million other users. I would not expect to be getting any moderator position request.
- I was the most active user on the forums at one point in time. On the Scratch 2.0 website, I had more forum posts than anybody. I was an extremely active forumer on Scratch, I'm not afraid to say I was heavily addicted to the Scratch forums. No moderator invitation ever went my way (albeit at the time I was not an adult, though if I recall you don't actually need to be 18 but I'd need to check on that).
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 02:29, 26 January 2017 (UTC) - I just checked, it is 13 years or older to be a moderator.

This is a newer account that i made after i lost the password to the first (no recovery email) and then I didn't like the username of the second. I am also rather active on the forums.
- That's not going to get you a moderator position, though. Sorry, I'm a dream killer XD
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 16:24, 26 January 2017 (UTC)- There used to be a thing called "Community Moderators" in Scratch 1.4, but they removed it approximately when 2.0 came out. I'm pretty sure you have to be an adult to be a part of the Scratch Team. Can you source that?
ʙʀɪɢʜᴛ-ɪᴅᴇᴀ Say Hi! Edits On Scratch 03:11, 28 January 2017 (UTC)- For some reason I didn't remember community moderators going away. Has it really been the ST there entire time doing all the moderation since the release of Scratch 2.0? I swear there have always been forum moderators independent of the Scratch Team, that or my memory has faded me so much. I was looking at the WIki page which said 13 years or older to be a community moderators but apparently they don't exist anymore. I guess I am simply out of touch with the modern day era of Scratch.

There are users who "patrol" the forums on a regular basis, but they don't have any special permissions. They are just regular users with a passion for the forums. Only ST members can move and delete posts, edit other people's posts, stuff like that.

Isn't February 24 going to be one year of Wiki Wednesday? Maybe we could do some stuff for it. Maybe there could be a Scratch Design Studio about it, add something about it in the Scratch Wiki Scratch news, and maybe someone could make a project about one year of Wiki Wednesday and it could get featured.
Ziggy741 (talk | contribs) 23:50, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- I don't like the idea of making a project on Wiki Wednesday and requesting it to the ST to feature it. Wiki Wednesday isn't something that notable to deserve some type of project (no offence to fellow Wiki members). There wouldn't really be any use of the project other than a means to advertise Wiki Wednesday; I'd rather some lucky Scratcher out there get his project featured.
