Scratch Team Wiki Page

So as you know, the Scratch Team is growing bigger and bigger. Currently, I think I've been the ONLY one that has been updating the Scratch Team Wiki Page. Their were many Scratch Team Members that had been retired for a while, but they were not in the Retired Members section.

I was wondering, since their are a lot of new Scratch Team Members, on the Scratch Team Wiki Page, I was wondering if we should put a section in the Scratch Team Wiki Page called newest scratch team members and we can all edit that section and when a new Scratch Team Member comes, we put his/her name, and we congradulate him/her on the Wiki Page by leaving a sentence - paragraph saying welcome (etc.) and then we show that new Scratch Team Member that wiki page and hopefully it'll be a big surprise for them!

The reason I wanted do this on the Scratch Wiki, is Scratch Team Members don't check it often so we have a better chance of surprising a new Scratch Team Member!

Anybody on board with this idea? Let me know!

So, you want to announce new Scratch Team Members on the Wiki's home page like we do curators?
I don't know if this is off topic, but I think it would be kind of cool to welcome new Wiki users somewhere too- probably not the front page because that could take up a lot of room.
Purplebook163's Profile Picture.gifpurplebook163 | Talk | Contribs | Edits πŸ“– πŸ“• πŸ”– 22:25, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
We could possibly do what you suggested first. I was more thinking to have the surprise welcome and new scratch team members on the Wiki Page that lists all of the Scratch Team, but what you said first is fine too. As for what you said second, that would be kind of hard to do and it won't exactly matter that much. Do you know what I mean?
Anyone else have any thoughts on the Scratch Team Wiki Page and the welcoming new Scratch Team Members thing?

Place for CP-threads that need "long time and hard work"

Yes Done - this thread can be archived now because we have a shorter replacement with #Not done at the top of the cp.

I suggest to make a place for outdated but "not done" CP-threads that must be very easy to find and draw attention to things that need long time and hard work but getting swiped of the "short time attention"-CP to fast. To make a start I created:

What do you think?

BACKGROUND

Seeing some threads, that I thought were important and "not done" being archived, was to me like a DΓ©jΓ -vu to the time, when I posted again and again "please let's start Interwiki" over years and being embarrassed again and again, that all posts got archived without anything happening. Perhaps I'm not the only one who sees a problem in things that need long time attention getting swiped of this CP. I also understand that this things shouldn't block and lengthen the "daily routine" CP usage. So we must find a good compromise to care for some "long time lasting things" without bothering people that are only interested in "easy action + fast successes" (We call that "DΓΌnnbrettbohrer" in Germany ;-).
MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs)

I agree 100% on what you're talking about. We really needed a place for not done CP-threads. I think what you did was a good idea! I'll take a look more in-depth of everything that hasn't been completed, a little later. Thanks!
AghaCool (talk | contribs) 14:42, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, this is a good idea. It will be nice to be able to see long-term threads in a place where they won't get archived until they are done.

BeetleBlocks

Yes Done Can some help me format the images on the BeetleBlocks page?
JayceeMinecraft (talk | contribs) 19:24, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

I was actually thinking delete that page. I think very few Scratchers know about BeetleBlocks. I don't consider it notable at all.
Mitopolis (talk | contribs) 21:09, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
That's the whole thing. Since not many Scratchers know about BeetleBlocks, we should tell them about it with that page.

Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 23:07, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
Things need to be notable to be on here. I might make the "Non-Notable Scratch Wiki" on my userpage. I would put BeetleBlocks there.
Mitopolis (talk | contribs) 01:12, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
It's a programming language based off Scratch, which uses software developed by a former Scratch Team member. How is that not notable? We have pages for Scratch Extensions and also a page for Snap!, and this is very similar. I say we keep it.

Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 03:30, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
@JayceeMinecraft: I formatted the images on BeetleBlock. What do you think?

Mitopolis (talk | contribs) 03:06, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
This discussion about deleting the article BeetleBlocks, reminds me awkwardly to the horrible "deleting discussions" in the German Wikipedia: IMHO German Wikipedians spent more time with discussions, if or not articles should be deleted than writing new articles: I already had that years ago with the German Wikipedia-Articles I wrote about Scratch, BYOB and Snap! Nobody talks about if the article is useful knowledge for the reader, but only about if it fulfills the relevance-laws, that only about 250(!!!) German Wikipedia admins practice so strict (without asking the 100 Million readers!), that the number of authors decreased in the last years rapidly because most authors loose interst when their articles got deleted, after investing lots of time and efforts. I hate this "deleting knowledge'-thing of the German Wikipedia and I'm happy that the English Wikipedia is not like that. PLEASE don't start that thing here at the Scratch-Wiki!!! Instead of doing that, you could risk a look at this Video of Eric Rosenbaum, a former member of the Scratch Team, demonstrating BeetleBlocks at the Scratch2015AMS. Also have a look at S:CPND#Lack of curiosity at Scratch Wiki? where lots of things, that are worth writing an article about, are still waiting.
MartinWollenweber (talk | contribs) 16:07, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
+1 let's use our energy to make and improve articles instead of discussing about their deletion.

My Apologies!

Hey Guys! Just wanted to say sorry for not being active in the last couple of days! Exams are finally over so my free time is back up a bit ready to be spent on the wiki. Thanks!

Also, I am going to start the task of adding citations in replace of citation needed. It is my belief that a good wiki is one that is as true and factual as possible and part of making that happen starts with removing [citation needed] templates. Throughout the next couple of weeks you will probably see a lot of my edits starting with the word "OpCit:". That simply means that that edit was only about adding a citation. I'm hoping that this task will make the wiki better and more factual place. :)

No apologies needed! Real life should always take priority over the Wiki, since we after all do all lead lives outside of here. Anyway, it's nice to see that you're back, and I'm glad that someone is tackling the large amount of needed citations.

Become a mod or something?

I will try my best to stay active! I know that I haven't been very active for while, but that's because I have been busy on Scratch and Wikipedia! I will try to stay active when I can. Please could I become a mod? I would really love to!
Bbciplayer (talk | contribs) 08:40, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

We are actually holding an election starting in February! You can nominate yourself to run there if you wish.

Sorry!

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to apologize for not being active these past couple of days. I was without WiFi and electricity (due to the snow) and I have big exams coming up pretty soon. Again, I apologize and will be back up and very active in February! Hope you understand!
AghaCool (talk | contribs) 19:50, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

We all lead real lives, and real life should always take priority over the Wiki. There's no need to apologize. Good luck on your exams!

I had to deal with real life, and also, I have a cold at the moment. Wish me well! *sniffle*

I still plan to run in the EW election in a few days. *sniffle*
TheHockeyist (talk | contribs) 19:28, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

I hope you get better! Also, it's never a problem if someone can't be here because real life is in the way. Real life is more important than the Wiki, and we all understand that.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:02, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Well, I've recovered faster than expected. Wish me luck in the election!

Nominate Others?

Just a quick question: Will you be able to nominate others for the EW election?
The_Grits (talk | contribs) 19:56, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

unfortunately not :(
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 21:05, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
No, you can only nominate yourself. Since being an EW is a position that requires dedicated people, it's important that people choose to be there themselves. If you know of someone who isn't going to be near a computer during the nomination period, please have that user let me know and I will add them to the list.

Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 17:38, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

This skin looks better, relative to Scratch's main site. Vector looks generic and disconnected from Scratch.

Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 18:02, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Admittedly, the SWS isn't great on small screens. However, instead of just throwing in the towel and using a stock skin, we should instead work on improving the Scratch skin so that it does work better on smaller screens. Once the front page skin on the website goes live to everywhere else, we are going to start a major rewrite of the skin to copy the style here. However, in the meantime, we want to be clear that the Wiki is a part of Scratch, and keeping the design consistent is an important way to do that.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 18:11, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Ok. For one thing, we can remove the 1-inch margins.
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 18:20, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
That's to make sure pages have consistent width, I think. It makes managing the front page easier at least. Having a smaller margin at that screen size would make the skin worse for smaller screens.
Then again, I never made the skin.

MediaWiki skins are a lot more complicated than just a single CSS file, so you do need MediaWiki in order to be able to test it, and you need a Github account to send changes to the ST to put on the Wiki.

EW Election Discussion/Announcement Thread

Yes Done

The previous thread was archived, so I'm continuing here.

Just a reminder to everybody that nominations open on February 1, 2016 (Monday). If I set it up right, the page will automatically unprotect itself at midnight UTC (7:00 PM Scratch Time). If that doesn't work, I'll unprotect it myself as soon as I am aware. Once the page is unprotected, users may nominate themselves. All you need to do is click the link at Scratch Wiki:Elections/February 2016/Nominations and submit the edit (please check that it displays everything properly and let me know if it doesn't).

A few reminders:

  • Remember that your account must have been created before January 1, 2016 and must at least have 50 mainspace edits if you wish to nominate yourself.
  • Nomination will be open for several days - you don't need to rush there immediately
  • We don't give any weight to the order in which users nominate themselves when choosing candidates

With that, happy election!

Just wondering, will there be one new EW, or two? The page still says "one or two". Or have you not decided?

Hello Hamish752! I believe that it wasn't updated. As far as I know, two EW's will be elected. Hope that helped!

Here's my speech:
Hello all fellow "Scratch Wikians", it's me, PrincessPandaLover! Since September 2014, I have been making very essential and helpful edits to all the mainspace articles, such as adding references, pictures, and important content (wow, almost made 2,500 edits); oh, and also removing unneeded content and creating several articles and redirects. I'm very sweet and gentle, welcoming new scratchers and supporting users whenever they're in trouble. Everyday, I pop up onto the wiki, review the recent changes, and do whatever needs to be done. Whenever an interesting discussion pops up, I immediately join into the conversation and start chatting about what needs to be done. Scratching since June 2013, I have a decent amount of Scratch knowledge and will not hesitate to share my methods and skills. I hope you'll vote for me and gladly congratulate me for joining in this year's election, stay Sonic!

Nice speech, PPL! Here's mine...

Hey, I'm Hamish752! I've been here for 6 months now, and I've made 1200+ edits. I don't believe that edit counts really matter though, I think that the quality is what's important. I try to make sure that all of my edits really do make the Wiki a better place. In the time I've been here, I've made many new pages and expanded countless others. I often make redirects, fix grammar and upload images. I know lots of wiki code, HTML and CSS, which is helpful for templates. I want to be an EW so I have the powers needed to do things without having to ask an admin, such as deleting pages which go against the guidelines. I stalk Recent Changes like a hawk, and I always try to fix things when needed. I also think I'd be great at reviewing account requests, as I've had the same kind-of role as FPC and SDS curator. I enjoy welcoming new users to the Wiki, and I'm always happy to answer their questions. Thanks for reading, and good luck to all! :)

Quick question: does the limit of 8 lines mean that it can't go over 8 lines if you put it on a blank page (like above), or how many lines it takes up when it's put on the speeches page (which has a smaller border)?

Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 06:01, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Lines as sentences. :)
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 16:31, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Great speeches! This is mine:

I believe that the Scratch Wiki is a wonderful place for anyone to learn more about a wide variety of topics. I'm so grateful that I get to be here editing alongside you guys. However, I also feel that the wiki could use some valuable improvements. With contributions ranging from creating and editing many pages, I hope that you'll see me as an Experienced Wikian who will help approve account requests, keep the Wiki from being vandalized, and ensuring that it continues to be an amazing place for Scratchers to go for learning. I have experience doing the tedious work from being an SDS Curator and will approve account requests very quickly and efficiently. I pledge to be extremely active, easy-to-reach, connected to the main site (for updating the News Section and various articles), and the best EW I can be. Thank you for all of your contributions to the Scratch Wiki and for considering me to be one of the elected EWs. Wiki On! -St19_Galla

I believe it fits the requirements, but if not, I will gladly change it. I'm still a bit confused on the whole line vs sentence thing :P

I've been here for 6 months now, and I've made 1200+ edits, I don't believe that edit counts really matter though, I think that the quality is what's important. I try to make sure that all of my edits really do make the Wiki a better place. I know lots of wiki code, HTML and CSS, which is helpful for templates. I want to be an EW so I have the powers needed to do things without having to ask an admin, such as deleting pages which go against the guidelines. I'm very active here on the wiki, which means that I could quickly update the news as soon as it comes out, I also constantly check recent changes, and I always try to fix things when needed. I also think I'd be great at reviewing account requests, as I've had the same kind-of role as Front Page Curator, an SDS curator and a Welcoming Committee Curator, where I've shown patience, and I've used my judgement to review projects, similar to reviewing account requests. Thanks for reading, and good luck to all!
Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 21:50, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Here is my speech.

I would make a great EW because I would be able to deeply disect account requests and wisely decide wether or not the person applying is a good pick for a Wiki Editor. Though I haven't made as many edits as others, I'm still a good writer. Like the Wiki is always saying, it's not the number of edits that matter, it's the quality. I like to sit down and hit the "Random" button on the wiki and correct as many errors as I can find; these are the kind of quality edits I make. While I haven't been very active as of late, I will be very active soon. I will be able to focus a great amount of my energy into the Wiki. I look forward to the chance of being able to quickly and efficently take care of the needs of this Wiki, such as deleting pages, updating the news, and confirming accounts. Thank you for this great oppurtunity!

Here's mine!

Hey everybody! I’m The_Grits, and I’ve been on the Wiki for just over a year. I have nearly 3 years of experience in web development and am very familiar with markup, experience that helps me a lot when I edit the Wiki. I tend to help out in the Wiki by discussing issues in the Community Portal, expanding stubs so that they can be unstubbed, or by simply fixing the grammatical and factual errors I come across in the Wiki. The Wiki is an important learning resource for Scratchers of all stages, a resource that needs to be kept up-to-date and accurate. This is why I would like to help the community even more by becoming an Experienced Wikian. Thank you for your consideration! - The_Grits

Voting does indeed end tonight at 12 midnight UTC or 7 PM Scratch Time. Results will be announced shortly after (i.e. as soon as I can get on my computer, which hopefully won't take that long), and I have adjusted the votes for everybody running in the election who didn't rank themselves last.

Wiki Wednesday

Good news! Via LiFay, who is a Scratch Team member, I have learned that we will soon be having a Wiki Wednesday on the Scratch main website. Details are still fuzzy, but the plan is to feature, on the Scratch website, a new article each month. There are a few things we need to do to make sure this works:

  • We need to make a single page for the article of the month, which we will EW protect. Featured article text will be copy and pasted into the article of the month page. If any changes need to be made, those changes should be communicated to EW/admins via their talk page or via the article of the month talk page.
  • We need to make sure we pick an article of the month every month. I propose doing everything two weeks before hand to be extra secure. We have to pick things by the Monday before Wiki Wednesday.

The really fun stuff is that:

  • Wiki Wednesday should be featured in Scratch news. Yay!
  • Wiki Wednesday will also be featured in the forums.
  • International wikis might get to join in on the fun.

Note that things are still being discussed and can be changed.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 20:47, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Sounds super cool! This should be great to link the wiki to the main site!
The_Grits (talk | contribs) 20:53, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Definitely! That's the main purpose of this.
By the way, I update with a few more details.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 20:56, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 21:03, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
New updates! The first Wiki Wednesday will be on February 24th, 2016. It will now happen on the last Wednesday of each month. I will be creating the protected Article of the Month page later on today.
For now, it would be nice if we can find the first WW article of the month. We need to make sure its a super good article to show how good of an idea WW is. Any suggestions?

Fmtfmtfmt2 (talk | contribs) 19:27, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

I feel that Snap! needs a bit more cleaning up, and also needs to further explain the difference between BYOB and Snap!, before it could become the article of the month. I like the idea of BeetleBlocks becoming article of the month though, the article is fairly well written, and it's something that a lot of Scratchers would like to know about.

Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 21:19, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
I think an article about a feature of Scratch, the community or maybe a tutorial would be cool. I think we maybe shouldn't put an article about something non-Scratch in the first Wiki Wednesday, but that's just a feeling. What do you think? -

How to redirect pages?

Just curious:)
Fmtfmtfmt2 (talk | contribs) 04:01, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

create a page with the title you want to redirect, and then the source as #REDIRECT [[(the page you want the redirect to go to)]]
Anamation2.gif KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 04:17, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
By the way, it's often easier to use the Edit Tools box at the bottom of the page (when you're editing a page). It wil automatically insert the #REDIRECT [[]], which is a lot easier than typing it out manually :)

My file isn't uploading

I'm trying to upload a picture of the old FAQ forums from Scratch 1.4 to add to the FAQ forum article, but it won't upload. I've tried doing it three times (two yesterday, one today) and it won't show up when I try to put it in the article, even though I pasted the name into the article and I'm positive the name is right. The upload file thing worked a week ago (I think) when I uploaded a picture for my user page, but it won't work now. Does anyone know why this won't work?
Pianogirl84 (talk | contribs) 21:34, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Hmm. What happens when you try to upload the file? Do you get some sort of error? Because looking at your contributions, I don't see the image you're talking about (so obviously putting the file name in to an article won't work).
Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 23:40, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
No, it doesn't say anything. It's like I just refreshed the page, but I hit the "Upload" (or whatever it is) button. Then I looked in the Recently Uploaded (or whatever it is) section and it wasn't there. After that, I thought that either I did something wrong or it was a bug. :P Maybe I could try uploading another picture on my computer to put in my user/talk page and see if that works.
Pianogirl84 (talk | contribs) 01:22, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
I uploaded a picture of Bob the minion and it worked fine. I'm not sure why the other picture won't upload, but I'll try again.
EDIT: It uploaded now. Before, I wasn't checking "Ignore Warnings", but I did this time, so that might have been why it wouldn't upload.

Bot Development

I would like to make a bot for this:

  • Archive the CP when it gets over 30 discussions with {{done}}; leaving {{not done}} ones
  • Automatically remove S:CPND threads with {{done}}
  • Add "Is this a Flame War?" when two users are the only ones on a discussion and the use CAPITAL LETTERS places besides the first letters of words
  • Notify the currently most active EW/Admin when Category:Pages in Need of Deletion gets over 5 pages
  • Place a message here when it archives it saying, "This talk page was recently archived by a bot."
  • Any talk page-related suggestion anyone has

I think "MeowBot" would be a good name. I made a logo:

  • Archiving: we sometimes keep certain threads, even those without "not done" from being archived, and protecting the archives would require giving admin privileges, which we don't want to do
  • Sometimes there is post-action discussion about done threads, and they shouldn't be removed anyway in case people want to look at them later
  • Flame wars are exceedingly rare on the Wiki, and they can happen in a lot of ways besides just using a lot of caps, and there are times I need to use all caps, for example if I were describing BYOB.
  • Deleting: We already check RC fairly frequently
  • The last one: see the first

The archive message would be so that we knew to get any threads that we still wanted. The deleting thing would be just in case RC stuff got buried. I would have an "All-Caps Exception List" that would have things like BYOB, BeetleBlocks, and TurtleStitch. Also, if you have more suggestions, please make sure they are talk page-related.

Also, the archive message would mean "Please unarchive all wanted threads and protect the archive."

Where would a section for Applescript go?

Hey guys, I understand that Applescript is a niche language, and I'm wondering where, if anywhere, I should put it on the wiki. Python has an entire page - I think that Applescript should at least get a mention as it's one of the most useful scripting languages for beginners with Macs.
-Tigerjack- (talk | contribs) 21:09, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

It could get a section on Alternatives to Scratch, I guess.

The Unused files

I think they should be deleted. Thoughts?
Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 06:17, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

We talked about that earlier, and had KrIsMa use VoxBot to mark them for deletion and give people time to say if any shouldn't be deleted. Maybe we should do that again.

Still a few outdated articles

There are still some articles in Category:Outdated Articles. This was done way back when 2.0 was released. They date back to when i was around! C'mon wikians, you've failed my expectations. How about it? Next time i stop in for an editing spree, i expect it to be empty.

All jesting aside, if anyone's looking for something to edit, here's a good place to stop. And Category:Article Stubs also could always use some work.

Categorizing block category lists under their category page

Did that title make any sense? No? Let me explain.

A page like Operators Blocks is not actually in Category:Operators Blocks, for reasons unexplained. I think that it would make sense to add it their, wit the format [[Category:Operators Blocks|]] so that it shows up as the first, "subject", page. Any objections? (And volunteers? :))
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 21:20, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with this. It would make sense if the Operators Blocks was in the Category of Operator Blocks.:)--

Who have _bloop_ Pico head emoji?

I added this to the scratch emoji page and I don't have an image to add.

Update Tutorials

Hello everyone! I got a request to update the tutorials "both of the platformer tutorials the pong tutorial [...] because all of the ones i tried never worked". Could one of you look into this and update where necessary? -

I'll take a look I have some time on my hands (of course im supposed to be doing MMUN but oh well)
Programmer1121 (talk | contribs) 00:26, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
I just took a quick look, and How to Make a Basic Platformer seems up to date to me. I couldn't even find a pong tutorial. Maybe they were referring to the tutorials in the Scratch Editor?

About what percentage of sigs mention kumquats? (Hint: Use grep -i -c "[Ee]vil [Kk]umquat"

The_Grits (talk | contribs) 04:48, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Ray Schamp says 0.017% of all signatures mention kumquats (= 215 signatures in total). -

Also, that was my first regex! I mean, "Th?t[:blank:]w[:alnum:][sS] m[y-y] 1?? regex?"

Can someone add her to the news section? Thanks :D

Sorry.

We had a family emergency and I didn't have internet, so I couldn't get online.
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 20:36, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

That's fine! You shouldn't feel pressured to keep editing the Wiki every day, feel free to take a break whenever you want :)
Hamish752 (talk | contribs) 21:11, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
I know. I just like to edit every day. In fact, if you look at RC, I'm one of the most active users.
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 21:13, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
Yep, you're the second most active user.

What's RC?
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 01:47, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
RC stands for recent changes.

MediaWiki

I would like to debug SWS, but I can't figure out how to run MediaWiki. I have these:

  • MediaWiki (won't run)
  • MySQL
  • PHP

Anything else I need?
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 16:36, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

You need a server from which to run Mediawiki. I recommend Bitnami for an easy to install and run Mediawiki+server bundle, or xxamp for only the server.
By SWS, do you mean Scratch Wiki Skin?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 16:42, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
OK. But, I don't want an online wiki at all; a flash drive of files on my computer would be best.
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 16:50, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
You can make it so that the server is only local, meaning only computers on your network can access it and not the entire world wide web.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 16:56, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
OK. Will Bitnami run on Linux?
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 16:58, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
They both offer Linux as a download option, so yes.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 17:02, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
Never mind. I used "local install." Will that put it on the WWW or my network?
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 17:05, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
It's instaling!

Either way, I've never heard of that. On a side note, I forgot that the current wiki skin does not work with MW 1.23+, so make sure you have MW v.1.22.7! That also means you can't use Bitnami (because it only allows 1.26).
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 21:56, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

I guess I'll need to ask Scmb1 for Scratch's copy, 1.22.7 is deprecated and no longer available.
Popular GIF.gif Mitopolis (Talk | Contributions | Edits | Scratch account) 22:00, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
There's an archive of old MediaWiki releases here: link
Go into the folder 1.22, then download Mediawiki core 1.22.7. It will be a tarball (.tar.gs).
