Scratch News Change
When we put a new SDS into the news, the default message that we put is "The Scratch Team has released a new SDS!". But, it's actually the Scratch Team and the SDS curators, in fact, the SDS curators brainstorm many ideas for themes, and they all voice their opinions on new themes and when they should be released. Maybe we should change it to say "The Scratch Team and the SDS curators"?

- I think it is the right thing to do but it is too long.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 22:53, 14 October 2014 (UTC) - But the Scratch Team is the only unit that has the ability to release it.

Shortcut deletions
Done
In the old S:GUIDELINES, there were shortcuts to many sections and rules listed there - there were around 15 shortcuts leading to sections of that page. Can an admin or EW go through them and see which shortcuts need to be deleted?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 02:45, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- I would but don't know what you mean... Shortcuts to what? All links seem fine to me,
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 03:19, 17 October 2014 (UTC)- like S:STARTREK
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 03:23, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- That's not really what I meant :P Click here to see a list of redirects that go to an old section of that page, and delete the ones that aren't shown on the shortcuts template on the main guideline page.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 18:52, 17 October 2014 (UTC)- I went through the old shortcuts, deleted them, and put new shortcuts in.

Newer example projects
On most project tutorial articles it seems like the examples are all from 2010 or 2011 and made in Scratch 1.4. Maybe they should be updated to Scratch 2.0 projects that newer users could relate to more?
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 02:55, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- That's not a bad idea! Feel free to start working on some new tutorial articles and move the 1.4 tutorials to have (1.4) at the end of their name :)

Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 03:17, 17 October 2014 (UTC)- I made the account Wiki_Scripting a long time ago---want me to dig it out again?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 03:31, 17 October 2014 (UTC) - @derpmeup I think you misunderstood. It's not about rewriting the tutorials, it's about changing the example project links.
- @Krett What for..?

SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 16:32, 18 October 2014 (UTC) - Well, now that I think about it, really, derpmeup is the most active wikian, not Krett12. xD
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 20:36, 19 October 2014 (UTC)- Dig this, you who questions my activeness. If I get on 10 times a day and make 1 edit each time I check RC, and derpmeup gets on twice a day and makes 10 edits. Which is more, 10 or 2? 10. That makes me more active. boom. But it seems like derpmeup is more active because they make 20 edits a day, not 10. Don't try; I always win.

Any articles that I can edit that need cleaning up or updating?
I'm in the mood to edit some articles tomorrow, so I'm wondering what articles need a serious case of clean-up or updating so that I can work on editing them. Or at least ones that need it very badly. The wiki is good, but "good" is not good. We need to strive for excellence.

Why don't we allow capitalization redirects?
Sometimes, if you search something but use the wrong capitalization (or manipulate the URL to get to a page), it'll say the page won't exist. I'm just wondering - why don't we allow capitalization redirects? I don't see anything bad about them...
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:24, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm asking this because jvvg deleted every one of them back in March and deletes all of the new ones, but what's the reason for not having them?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 02:13, 19 October 2014 (UTC)- At some point we decided to dump them, but i can't find the discussion.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:37, 19 October 2014 (UTC)- The department of redundancy department doesn't approve of them. In real words, they're unnecessary redirects. Having two pages of the same name except for capitalization just wastes space (not so much on the disk but in the search bar). If I am searching for a page and I type in the first two words (assuming several pages begin with those two words), a capitalization redirect is one potential entry on the list that won't go to another actually different page.

New features!
scmb1 has implemented two new features:
- Hiding specific revisions from a page (like what we do when a user shares contact info)
- Adding an EW level of protection
Admins, if you have any questions, I can probably answer them.
Thank you scmb1 for putting this in!

Algebra Page
I think there should be a Algebra page. I mean scratch uses a lot of it. It wouldn't need to explain anything too in depth. Thoughts? Someone else would have to write it because I'm in Middle School and I don't know much about Algebra yet. until next year!I get to take Algebra I as a 8th grader!
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 11:42, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about this one. This wiki is supposed to be about Scratch, not algebra. If you tie the article in back to Scratch, I think it might be good. Maybe you can make a mockup?

Please stop discussing banned users
Several people have been posting stuff on the talk pages of banned users and discussing those users elsewhere. Please stop, as this is a violation of Scratch policy. After all, we are a sub-domain of Scratch. Any further discussions revolving banned users (either on the main site or Wiki) will result in the discussion being removed and revisions deleted. Thank you in advance for observing this rule.

How to Create Math Images
I want to add a lot of stuff to Mathematics but do not know of any good programs/web sources for creating equations. I could really do it in Scratch paint editor probably (like most other stuff) but just need some suggestions!
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 21:50, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm... I really can't think of any programs that would do that right now, so you should probably start off by just using the Scratch paint editor.

Need Someone With Powerful GPU!
In Three Dimensional Projects I have my Age of Empires image there to show what 3D rendering looked like in 2005. I think it would be cool to have a modern-day game from 2013-14 to show the article how much graphics have even improved since then. Perhaps someone who plays on high-ultra could get me a nice 720p screenshot of a video game from today? Does anyone have Shadow of Mordor? That could have some very pretty screenshot of the second world as long as you do not capture the killing part.

New extension?
Template Sandbox - for those who don't want to read the whole page, here it is in a nutshell: When editing a template, you can preview it in the context of an article transcluding it. This is useful if you are editing templates and want to make sure they appear properly in articles (e.g. making sure namespace detection and noinclude work). What does everyone think? Also, for reliability, it is used on Wikipedia, indicating it is pretty reliable.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:26, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
- i say it's nice, but since it isn't going to be used a lot (like not a lot of templates are edited recently) will scmb1 want to add it?
- KrIsMa user | talk | contribs | edits 21:35, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
- I support it; I've had issues with templates in the past. If you try it on the page, it'll give a template loop error
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 21:56, 27 October 2014 (UTC) - Yes! We're not all MediaWiki gurus, and sometimes getting a template to work properly can be a big pain. This would have helped me countless times.

Mobile
Can we get the Mobile version for us people who sometimes edit on our phones or tablets? I really hope we can get it.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 13:18, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
- That would help.
SuperSmashScratch (talk | contribs) 13:22, 1 November 2014 (UTC)- Yes, yes it would. When I leave for hockey, I want to be able to edit on my tablet.

Would this extension work for this?http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MobileFrontend

Apple doesn't allow apps that interpret code and the Scratch Wiki uses some HTML features, so I don't know if that would be possible. If you are talking about editing through a browser, it is entirely possible with the right programming.
SpaceKid11 (talk | contribs) 18:21, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
- It is through a web browser. derpmeup does it all the time on a iPod. I do it on an android.
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 18:29, 1 November 2014 (UTC)- I once tried an Android and it was practically impossible for me I always had to press an inch above something for it to detect what I pressed, and the keyboard was always mistaking what letters I typed.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 14:26, 2 November 2014 (UTC) - @Krett12: Instead of that, maybe there should be a mobile site instead (maybe m.wiki.scratch.mit.edu) and going to the main one on mobile will redirect you to the mobile site? I've seen other websites do similar things.
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 14:28, 2 November 2014 (UTC)- @derpmeup: I think having a mobile site would be too much. I feel it would be simpler if we just kept one website, instead of two. (Also, I see why you don't like Android. The same thing happens to me on my Kindle Fire. When I type, the text is sometimes invisible! Clicking links is tough too. )
- @jvvg: Agreed.

My short 2-day trip
Just to let you know, I've been gone for yesterday and today (today where I am is 11/2/14). I have been on a trip. For details about it, check out this. Because it was very, very cool.

Question
How did you make it so that when you do {{/<subpage name>}} it displays that subpage? I want to do it on my wiki.
JayceeMinecraft (talk | contribs) 20:28, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
Notability
How is a mod defined as "notable"? I was just wondering.
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 22:34, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- A lot of people need to use it (e.g. BYOB, Bingo, Insanity, etc.) It can't just be a mod somebody wrote for the fun of it and never attracted users to.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 22:52, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
Hey I had a thought
Not done, do not archive
If all the Scratch blocks are labeled lowercase, why are the pages capitalized? We should move them all and do {{lowercase title}}. And derpmeup, please leave some page-moving for other people as I know you're gonna want to do it all.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:25, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe; but is it really necessary to do all of that? Also, just because I do mass edits often doesn't mean I'd like to move/rename 180 pages :P
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 14:53, 4 November 2014 (UTC) - Because our style is to capitalize titles. And by now, it would be too much of a pain to change it all.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:01, 4 November 2014 (UTC)- Isn't that what bots are for?
Djdolphin (talk | contribs) 22:45, 4 November 2014 (UTC)- I like them better Capitalized in the titles, it's just proper. If you had the word "apple" in a title you would capitalize it even though apple is lowercased within normal content.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 22:58, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

jvvg is an exception. He wants his name lowercase everywhere, although other Scratchers' names shouldn't be lowercase. Besides, have you ever seen a book with an all-lowercase title?
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 02:01, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Why are you comparing jvvg to a block?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 02:01, 5 November 2014 (UTC) - Yes, but the blocks are "lowercase everywhere" as well. Also, my caps lock key is stuck so welcome to yelling krettie. Words like "and" and stuff are not capitalized. Why should this be? Also, could one of you fix this post?
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 14:34, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Should We Have Protection for This?
Look at my userpage. Should there be some protection so someone cannot completely cover a whole page? I know it is still editable through a POST request but still.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 01:10, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- There are many different parameters to the covering; how would it be detected?
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:11, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
I guess you're right, true.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 01:13, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I was keeping it secret until Turkey came along. Also, doing so is not acceptable, and as such I have reverted it.
Krett12 (talk | contribs) 01:16, 5 November 2014 (UTC)- It seems like whenever somebody makes a userpage trick you say you were keeping it a secret :P
derpmeup (talk | contribs) 01:17, 5 November 2014 (UTC)- Krett, you reverted my userpage to an old version, and it was just for testing purposes.

Has anything happened all week?
Just wondering... There hasn't been any CP activity.
Good job to editors who finally got past making policy decisions and are now making edits... (I seem to remember a bunch of policy discussion going on recently.)

Scimonster (talk | contribs) 21:36, 13 November 2014 (UTC)- I had been wondering that too. I never come on between 7:00AM- 4:00PM every week day. We have other things in our life besides the wiki Krett.

Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 22:26, 13 November 2014 (UTC)- Also, there's not much left to do honestly. We have kept this Wiki well-polished.
Turkey3 (talk | contribs) 22:27, 13 November 2014 (UTC)- Exactly. All we do is just look for new information or do programming or whatever outside the wiki. Currently my schedule consists of 34 hours of school and 3 1/2 hours of hockey practice. That is without any hockey games that will start next weekend. I have games next weekend pretty much all of saturday after lunch and all day sunday before 5. I really don't have that much free time.

Why you read S:CONTRIB
Since there hasn't been much activity on the CP lately (as the thread above this one points out), I thought I would add some.
A while ago Krett12 asked me to make the list of rejected requests public (with the usernames removed, of course). Unfortunately we're still keeping the full list private, but here are a few of them:
- I play scratch
- it is awesome
- omg
- I Never Been A Wiki Contributer
- for them to learn new language
- Because I think it is important to pay what you get if you know what I mean
- help people learn how to do things
- To share ideas
Yes, these were all actual account requests I received, and any spelling errors were in the request notes (I just copy-pasted).
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:06, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
- I really don't understand why you rejected them.... :P
-PRO- (talk | contribs) 12:38, 14 November 2014 (UTC)- @jvvg: Those don't look like good account requests... I think I've processed some accounts that can be added to that list.
- @-PRO: They were rejected because they didn't buy jvvg a pizza first.
ErnieParke (talk | contribs) 14:03, 14 November 2014 (UTC)- @ErnieParke: I look at all of the rejected requests and add them to the list if they're noteworthy. Also, I'd appreciate some barbecue right now, I'm not really feeling pizza.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 14:11, 14 November 2014 (UTC)- I have some things to say about that. 1) I've seen a request on another wiki that said "I would like to contribute to infosphere so i can edit pages". Wow!! Also, I made a fake request like "srry, but turnin pigz into friez dont merit an account heer anymoar." I think i'll use the buy-a-pizza one sometime...

Impossible
I was looking through the 12 most recent archives, and I noticed a few impossible (as in impossible to enforce) suggestions. Maybe we could create a new talk template, {{Impossible}}. It would look like this:
Impossible
Don't ask me why I chose a bunch of bananas.

Basically, if a user suggests something that can't be done, then this can be used as a reply.
