Purge Article
Does anyone know what the 'purge article' link does? :/ Jwosty 20:18, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- It 'refreshes' the page... I use it sometimes on the Main Page to update the amount of articles it says.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 01:07, 25 July 2010 (UTC)- Ah, thanks. :) Jwosty 02:49, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
All block articles have been created!!! Look at the Blocks article - no red links!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

- Unfortunately there is a lot of inaccurate information; the work is far from over. Plus there are still those annoying white black backgrounds! Please just download GIMP! :P ~Shadow_7283

- Yeah, the blocks should be fixed/cleaned up... Though it's still quite a accomplishment!

blurring
I'm wondering why we always blur out names in images. I really think it's not necessary, after all we're not publishing private info and all screenshots are made from public pages - everyone can just google the message and see who wrote it. And it looks weird... JSO 10:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- This was brought up before, and we all agreed that it was silly... well, except Lucario. For some reason, we all listened to him - don't know why his opinion was much more important than others. :/
- As you said, we're not publishing anything that'll affect other people's privacy...
- Okay, I looked at the earlier message... Lucario said we should blur names because we're not supposed to advertise people. But - how would innocently showing a name in a picture count as advertising? It isn't like we're circling the name and such... the pictures are for purposes like "the asterisk (circled) that appears after a Scratch Team member's username", not things like "as you can see, coolstuff is an awesome moderator".
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 10:50, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- I dislike the blurring too... not only is it annoying, it feels like we're being all fussy about all the things we could possibly go off on, and this one seems fine. So I left Lightnin's name in an image I uploaded today. xP

- :/ I just feel that there's always the worry, that people will ask, "Hey, why does (so and so) get to be in that picture in the wiki, and not me! That's unfair!", and I don't want to cause a flame war like that. It's just a small precaution for this reason, I don't think it could really hurt. Even the RuneScape Wiki does it in most situations, so I think we're doing the right thing to blur it.

- Really, lucario, no need to do all the blurring. I repeat, just google the message and you know who wrote it. It's all public information, there's just no reason to blur. JSO 21:38, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- What do you mean, "google the message"? JSO - I do kindly respect your opinion - but it's publicity, and it's generally unfair. They're also blurred out for privacy, and the users do deserve that.

- It's a good general policy to have anyway, just as a "just in case" precaution. ~Shadow_7283
Talk 02:01, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- What's the problem with "he got to be in a picture and I didn't"? People can just upload a picture with them in it. It's not a big deal. :P
- I don't think that it's privacy to blur names - I'd be honored to have my username in an example. :D
- We don't seem to agree - how about a vote?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:17, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

- @Jonathanpb: Sure, people can upload a picture of themselves, but what if somebody who doesn't have a wiki account requests it? What it many people request it for the same image? That wouldn't be fair - it's a waste of time. I don't think this is a big deal - just as Shadow said, it's a good extra precaution to take - it really doesn't hurt. Although some people may like to have their names in an example, other's wouldn't - and the publicity is unfair. :)

- @Chrischb: lol.
- @Jonathanpb: ... obviously you don't get it. The system of an argument is that two people explain their sides, and then one person falls to agree with the other - that's going to be you xD. But seriously - is it that much of a *pain* to just blur the names? It's good for privacy and stuff.

- How are we going to carry this on? I don't have anything else to say, and I don't feel like giving in. :P
- Um... on our side we have me, Chris, JSO and possibly Bharvey. All your side has is you and Shadow. >:D

- 1. Bharvey? What? He didn't even post here! xD
- 2. Look, we don't go by vote - we go by umm... what was it called... consensus. So... yeah. Until then, I'm just kindly requesting you to blur all of the names :)

- If it's a privacy issue we're worried about, why not just have a checkbox when we create an account saying something like "I understand that my username/project/gallery may or may not be used for the Scratch wiki". I think that would help, but then again, I couldn't really follow this discussion, a bit messy for my liking :P --Markyiscool 08:33, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, forgot to leave out that detail. It would definitely be when you make an account on the actual normal Scratch website, not the wiki. --Markyiscool 08:59, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Lucario:
- Bharvey didn't seem to like the idea in an earlier discussion
- "Consensus" means "general agreement" - doesn't that sound a bit like a vote?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 08:39, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Necromaster: What IS this blurring thing? (I just got my Wiki account and have had it for maybe a week or so)I haven't ever come across it.
- @markyiscool: I see, but what about the people that have already created accounts, and well, just in general, it doesn't seem necessary. They probably don't even know what the Scratch Wiki is :/. What if they want to change their mind?
- @Jonathanpb: No. Consensus is not voting, at all. How can you possibly relate agreement and voting? Just see wikipedia:WP:CONS and wikipedia:WP:NOTDEMOCRACY.
- @necromaster: Hey! Welcome to the wiki! :) Firstly, before I reply to your message, let me just remind you, as it mentions at the Help Box at the top of this page, you should sign your post with four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically add your signature and a timestamp :) So you're not supposed to put "Necromaster:" in front of your name - Jonathanpb was just replying to me and showing that he was specifically messaging to me. As for what you were mentioning. We are talking about blurring names in images - take this image for example: File:A_favorited_project.png.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 02:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Eh, by voting you can tell if there's general agreement or not. ^_^
I've run out of things to say... now what? :(

Random Page Button
I notice that with the Random Page Button it usually takes me to the Scratch 2.0 article. It does take me to other pages but 7 or 8 times out of ten it goes to the Scratch 2.0 article. I know it doesn't really matter but is there a reason?
WeirdF (talk | contribs)
- Those things aren't random, they're just unpredictable (well, you knew that :P) - it probably has to do with the way it picks a random article.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 10:54, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm - that doesn't happen to me! Kind of weird...
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:38, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, this happens to me too. I think I'd more likely get a random page if I shut my eyes, twirl the mouse around and click then use the random button. --Markyiscool 04:13, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
The Community Portal Link
When you click on the Community Portal Link in the "Navigation" section, it takes you to a page, which then asks you to go to the talk page of it. Shouldn't it link straight to this page?
WeirdF (talk | contribs)
- I supposed. I was originally planning to put some more information on the Community Portal page, but that doesn't matter too much. I'll do that :)

Any Tips For a new editor?
I was wondering, do you Scratchers have any tipsthat could help me, like, if i were to do a topic on sharing projects, would i tell them what the beniffets are and how to do it? Im not sure if that would be consider a tutorior or an information topic? What type are you suppost to post, info and a how to share a project or a just info on why to do it(if i do one i gues i should do both)
- To be honest, there's not much left to write about, the wiki has become so full. The best thing to do would be to edit current articles. Although a good way to start is to create some redirects. A redirect is a page which links to another page. For example, if you search for "Forums" in the search bar, it takes you straight to the article "Scratch Forums." Find an article you think could use a redirect, then search for that redirect in the search bar. If it doesn't exist, create the page and do this:
#REDIRECT Name of page you are linking to
A redirect will be created.
When editing pages, don't be afraid to do it. If you make a mistake, it will be corrected, and you'll get better. When I first started I made lots of mistakes when editing, and look at me now! An administrator! So don't be disheartened if something goes wrong. :)
WeirdF (talk | contribs)
- Wait, who said there's not much left to write about? That's a load of baloney! There's plenty to write about - you just have to think! You could add information about new features on Scratch Resources, you could write about Scratch Suggestions, you could write about LEGO WeDo, there's endless ideas!
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:55, 31 July 2010 (UTC)- I think WeirdF has a point... we've created all the block articles and tons of other stuff. But there'll never be no more articles to create...

I never said it was impossible to find an article to create! For example, I created the VM Preferences article yesterday, and that was quite long. But it is much harder to find stuff, especially for a new editor.

How 2 inport a photo into a Wiki page?
I have my photos i whant to upload into my Wiki topic but how do I upload them? What website should i use?recycle49 15:24, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- If the files are on your computer, you can just upload them straight into the Wiki. On the left of your screen, there should be two boxes, one titled "Navigation" and one titles "Toolbox." Under "Toolbox," the third option down is "Upload File." Click on that and upload your file. To put an image on an article, do this: .
Therefore produces:
And you can do other stuff as well, for example, produces:
If you want it to be on the left, just add another pipe key (|) and put "left" in.
For more details see this help page.

I can't update a file properly!
I'm trying to update the File:Workaround for the Point in Direction () block.png file for a better workaround, but instead the existing image got squashed into the shape of the new image. I tried deleting the file and uploading it again with the new workaround, but it doesn't work! Can someone help?

Create New Article
Instead of having to search for an article before being able to create it, I think there should be a button under "Toolbox" which would be "Create New Article" or "Create Article" or something, this would make it easier...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 19:04, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- When we moved to this wiki, at first I wondered how to create articles! :O But I figured out that by tampering with the URL, you could create articles... well, you can use the search feature and click on the Create This Page thing, but I don't do that for some reason. ^_^
- I support! :D
