Cheating images isn't working
You know how if there's a link that is to http://scratch.mit.edu/ and ends in ".png", it will display the image. I'm trying to have dynamically updating projects on my page, using the Scratch redirect. Here's the code I'm using:
http://scratch.mit.edu/redirect/url?link=http://blocks.scratchr.org/API.php?action=projects&user=scimonster&type=newest&return=image&num=1&file=.png
It's only displaying API.php?action=projects&user=scimonster&type=newest&return=image&num=1&file=.png
. Can someone tell me how to fix this? :S
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:49, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
- Why do you have a link to the block library?
Cygene (talk | contribs) 11:24, 6 September 2011 (UTC) - Try this - http://blocks.scratchr.org/API.php?user=Scimonster&action=projects&type=newest&return=image&num=1&file=.png

Need help creating scripts images
Hello. I have a list of the 100 most popular scripts ever used used. It's in plain text so I need help converting the top 10 or top 20 to images like this one: http://i.imgur.com/Sgb4V.gif
Once I have that, I will write a blog and a wiki article. Of course, your help will be acknowledged :) Here is the list in plain text: http://j.mp/qaTiDG Please note that the scripts don't have any arguments. This is on purpose since I'm interested in the raw scripts rather than the differences caused by different argument values. Thanks!
Andresmh (talk | contribs) 23:07, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
- The second link wants me to log in to Google, and I don't have an account. Anyway, where do you want the images? On the Wiki or an external hosting site?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 00:50, 31 July 2011 (UTC) - Awwww I don't have a Google account :S Would it be possible for you to paste the plain text somewhere?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 01:16, 31 July 2011 (UTC) - Even I have a google account, and it requires the permission of the account holder of the file, so I can't access it.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 01:23, 31 July 2011 (UTC)- I'll request access. My username is aquariusbyz.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 02:10, 31 July 2011 (UTC) - Sorry, wrong link, try this: http://j.mp/qaTiDG
Andresmh (talk | contribs) 03:36, 31 July 2011 (UTC)- Alright. I'll work on these tomorrow.

- Uh I'll be putting the images in my sandbox, others can put them in too :)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:36, 31 July 2011 (UTC) - Done :P See the images here.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:19, 31 July 2011 (UTC)- I took some of the values out, but I couldn't figure out the when key pressed hat ATM, and I'm moving in a few minutes (literally!) so I'll try again later or tomorrow. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:56, 31 July 2011 (UTC) - EDIT: Figured it out. :D

Andresmh (talk | contribs) 17:07, 8 August 2011 (UTC)- By the way, it might be worth creating Wiki articles that are introductory tutorials for beginners on the most popular and hard to understand scripts.
Andresmh (talk | contribs) 15:15, 9 August 2011 (UTC)- Can you update? I don't know what to write. ^^
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:51, 9 August 2011 (UTC)- EDIT: Thought of something.

You need to update the blog, Andrés. I moved the images.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:06, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to try writing an article about these. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:03, 11 August 2011 (UTC)- I think the image for script #21 is incorrect. I think it should be this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ld4gjTwxQKk/TkRRWQAzw9I/AAAAAAAAAeA/FQjg-ehxtGg/s400/21WhenKeyPressedShow.png instead of this http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/images/Common_script_21.png as per the most up to date sheet in the spreadsheet: http://j.mp/pTpta2
Andresmh (talk | contribs)- Fixed. It would be good to check all the images again and compare them against the latest spreadsheet.

Display Title
Could $wgRestrictDisplayTitle be set to false in LocalSettings.php? Then we wouldn't need to use incorrect title templates. See more.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:20, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- That would be nice — then we could do () is less than () (block) etc properly!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:48, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Also, how about turning off sub-pages in the main namespace? I wouldn't mind templates for featured article/image, and the news. (:

Scratch website layout should be similar to YouTube layout
I've been thinking, the layout of the Scratch website should be similar to YouTube's layout. Who thinks this is a good idea?
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs)
- This isn't really the place to suggest ideas for the main Scratch site. Plus, I don't really want Scratch to copy other site's layouts. Scratch should be it's own site, and have it's own layout. And remember to sign with 4 tildes (~~~~) after your posts. (Not in articles)
BWOG (talk | contribs) 18:31, 1 August 2011 (UTC)- Oh, ok. Thanks! :P
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 01:58, 7 August 2011 (UTC)ElectricSparx - It already has a somewhat similar layout to youtube. But yeah I agree that would be cool.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 04:21, 3 August 2011 (UTC)- I don't.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:49, 4 August 2011 (UTC)- Depends on how you define "similar to YouTube."

Better rollback
I'd like some of these added here. The summary one is probably the only one we would really use...

Broken about link
Should be http://info.scratch.mit.edu/About_Scratch not http://scratch.mit.edu/About_Scratch
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:11, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wow. I never noticed.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:30, 4 August 2011 (UTC)- The my stuff link doesn't work either.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 19:39, 4 August 2011 (UTC)- It's not supposed to. There isn't like a thing like Special:MyTalk for it.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 22:00, 4 August 2011 (UTC)- Well, maybe it could link to the page of whoever you're logged in as here. :S http://info.scratch.mit.edu doesn't do that though...
- And I only noticed this because the CSS didn't load properly and it displayed as an unvisited link, even though I've clicked from the main site. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:33, 5 August 2011 (UTC) - Or it could be http://scratch.mit.edu/redirect/about which the main site actually does.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:25, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Capitalizing Help and Special Page titles
IMO it looks weird having some up, some down... and I like up better. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:57, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- Dunno man, I prefer down. I like how it traditionally is.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:07, 7 August 2011 (UTC)- Yeah, I know about your lowercase-ness.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:12, 7 August 2011 (UTC)- Hey man. That's, like, unfair. It just looks better to me to have it like "Recent changes" or "Special pages" or whatnot. And especially the help pages. To me it'd look clunky to have it be "Help:Script Image Editing".
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:20, 7 August 2011 (UTC)- Well, TBH, I don't mind the specials.

सदस्य:Foo?
I was browsing through the All Pages section, and I came across a page titled सदस्य:Foo. But when I clicked it, it was unavailable. What the heck is going on?
ElectricSparx (talk | contribs) 19:50, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- It's for a help page on namespaces, Help:Namespaces.

The Scratch Wiki in other languages
I know that this has been brought up before, but it wouldn't let me edit it (or I didn't know what I was doing :P), but we could use Pootle (what the ST uses) (maybe) or the Google Translate gadget (bad idea). Suggest any more.
IHeartGaming (talk | contribs)
- You couldn't edit it because it's an archive, and protected. ;) JSO has a good reason not to though. :S Also, a new server costs more. :S
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:54, 10 August 2011 (UTC) - Don't get me wrong; I do support!

Slow Wiki
Has anyone else noticed the Wiki being 3-4 times slower then the main site at times?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 22:30, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- +1 ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:41, 12 August 2011 (UTC) - Yup.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 06:49, 12 August 2011 (UTC)- +1
Dazman (talk | contribs) 06:52, 12 August 2011 (UTC)- We're aware of the problem. I think the traffic of the wiki has increased so its server should be improved. We just moved it to a temporary better server while we optimize the previous one. Stay tuned and if you find any technical problems let us know.
Andresmh (talk | contribs) 15:47, 12 August 2011 (UTC)- How could traffic have been so consistently high that the wiki crashed O.o
Dazman (talk | contribs) 01:15, 13 August 2011 (UTC)- He didn't say the Wiki crashed. He just said that it has been moved to another server temporarily so that the main one can be improved and run faster.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 12:36, 13 August 2011 (UTC)- But the website was down for a few hours. I doubt a move would take that long.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 17:40, 13 August 2011 (UTC)- I think it can.
- And yes, I've certainly noticed it.
- Side note: traffic is increasing!!! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD XD

- I haven't noticed a thing. And it does take forever to move sites. An empty MediaWiki installation can take half an hour and this wiki has tons of articles.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 02:45, 14 August 2011 (UTC) - The wiki seems normal to me again, but the account approval still takes ages to load :S

Sentence by workarounds that use fake blocks
“ | This block cannot be replicated with other Scratch blocks, due to the fact that there is no block that holds the pen color.
However, if the block existed, the Change Pen Color by () block could be replicated with the following code: File:Workaround for the Change Pen Color by () block.png Nevertheless, that is how Scratch itself does it. |
” |
That last sentence sounds weird to me. :S It's in lots of others, which is why I used the CP.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:52, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. It sounds a bit odd, but I can't think of any other way to say it. BTW, you accidentally posted twice, I removed one of those for you. (And to contradict my statement in the discussion above this one, the Wiki is going really slow when editing.)

Cool way of seeing how many characters are in a page
Just look at the byte size (in the history, or with {{PAGESIZE:page name}})! For example, before this edit, there are 14,040 characters!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:20, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
- That does work, but if I use this character: ♣ then the count is now wrong. I think only letters and numbers count as 1 byte, and others count as at least 2. (Although [!@#$%^&*()-_=+ may all count as 1 as well. Unfortunately I have yet to find a site that gives the amount for each character.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 13:28, 17 August 2011 (UTC)- According to Recent Changes, you added 355 chars. The filesize rose by 355B. 8)
