New Blocks
I noticed we aren't making much progress with block articles. It's understandable, considering how hard it is to get motivated to create them. But I think I know a way that we can get them completed. What if I were to create a basic layout for each of the blocks (with a picture, sub titles, categories, etc.) and then other users could fill in the details? I enjoy adding basics like this, and I think we could get a lot of articles done this way. What do you think?
Lucario, I'd like your permission before I do anything like this.--~Shadow_7283 Talk 14:05, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- I wouldn't worry too much - just create the articles as we go :). After all, new contributors will be coming, so they'll fill it in - but feel free to add pages with just the very basic stuff - ex., the template, the first sentence, and the category at the bottom. And of course, add on to them :)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:26, 4 June 2010 (UTC)- I'm working on all the block articles - I've revised Motion and Looks, and I'm nearly done with Control. Then I'll start creating the other block articles... :)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 02:49, 7 June 2010 (UTC) - Okay... I've finished the Control blocks. Up to Sound now - only one of those articles exists, so I'll be creating a lot of articles... :)

- Um... I'm against the idea. I don't think it'd be good to have tons of block articles that are barely anything...
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:51, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Why is this? It's much better than having no article ;)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:13, 7 June 2010 (UTC)- It just doesn't feel right to have tons of articles that are barely anything... :/ (Well, to me at least...)

- Well, take this for an example. One user says "Just use the "change color effect block". The other users says "What? That doesn't exist! The Scratch Wiki doesn't have an article on it, after all!". Instead, we would have an article, just it would say that it's a stub, and it needs more information.

Tutorials?
In several articles I have seen tutorials for creating projects, like in this one. Although they are useful, they are usually poor writing and don't necessarily fit in with the topic of the article. What do you think? Should tutorials be included in Wiki articles?~Shadow_7283
Talk 16:04, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
I think it's great to have tutorials! I think they should be separate articles but linked from the article about the particular block or feature. The quality of the writing is a separate issue, so if you can improve its quality of please do so! And that applies to any article. That's the whole point of the wiki. --

- @Shadow_7293: Yeah... :( Who wants to do it? :P And who wants to reupload the files without the gray background? :P
- We need fullmoon - he was great at tutorials on the previous wiki.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 06:27, 11 June 2010 (UTC)- I'll do the transparency. It takes me about ten seconds with GIMP. Course, it'll have to wait because I'll be gone for the rest of the week. You can do tutorials. ;) ~Shadow_7283

Changing the first comma in the tagline to a dash?
I think a dash would be better... :/
"From the Scratch Wiki, made by Scratchers, for Scratchers."
"From the Scratch Wiki - made by Scratchers, for Scratchers."
Which one do you prefer?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 08:35, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK! I'll change it.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 15:55, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- <begin English teacher mode> This: "-" is a hyphen, used to separate the pieces of a multi-part single word. This: "--" is a dash. :) —Brian Harvey (talk) 20:01, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. Even better, you can say "—" (including the semicolon) to get "—" which is a real dash! —Brian Harvey (talk) 21:36, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Tutorial pages?
It would be nice if we could have tutorial articles... maybe things like "Tutorial:X Scrolling, many sprites", or "Tutorial:Velocity"?

What are those top four unused files?
Just wondering... :)

- Just ignore them. They might come in handy sometime...

I can't access an uploaded file
The file name is "Set Volume to ((Volume) + (amount)) %.png".It is uploaded, as it shows in Uncategorized Files (and it has an icon which is correct). When I try and get to the page, it acts like the file doesn't exist! The name doesn't include any forbidden characters... what's going on?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:44, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'll be uploading it with a different name... now, how do we delete the 'nonexistent' file? :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:47, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah - the problem is that it includes the percent sign (%) - so that messes up the URL so it can't find the file (yet you can find it via Special Pages, or searching for it). So I'll have to ask JSO to manually delete it from the database. Try to only use titles with letters and numbers (and parenthesis and dashes). Thanks for reporting the problem though! :)

Blurring Names in Images
I've noticed that sometimes usernames and project names are blurred in images, but not always. When is it necessary to do that? Thanks. scmb1(talk) 02:47, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think we should be blurring names... :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 08:23, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Personally think we should be blurring them - whenever there is a name of a person (unless it's un-blurred purposely, like for showing the asterisk next to a Scratch Team member's username. Our goal isn't to advertise different users - so blurring is the best thing to do.

Umm..Can we make pages?
Can we make pages. By we, I mean non-admins. adriangl 01:13, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- I sure hope so- I do it all the time. :) Unless there's a different meaning of "page" that I don't know... scmb1(talk) 01:29, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- Of course you can! There's no button though... either search the (nonexistent) article and click on "create this page", or edit the url so you can go to the (nonexistent) article and create it. :) (In the list of user rights and such, it says that normal users can create pages.)

Mentioning users in articles?
Should names in articles be edited out?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 02:08, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- For the most part, yes. But it varies situation to situation.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 02:41, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- Why? It's not as if they're their real names. (I mean, articles that are entirely about some user should be in that user's User Page (if written by self) or Talk Page, but if an article says "BYOB was written by Jens" or "the Panther team are ..." what's wrong with that?) —Brian Harvey (talk) 20:07, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Blur names?
I wish there was a more specific set of guidelines on when and when not to include names in articles and images. For example, with this image, should I blur the names?~Shadow_7283 Talk 18:51, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess so. It won't hurt really.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:37, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- Why? (See topic above.) —Brian Harvey (talk) 20:08, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Be careful not to hurt the cute little arrows, though. :3

The "Set Pen Color to ()" block article
There are two of them! One is a number input, one is a color-picker input. But we use "()" for all input types... what should we do? :O
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:54, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm! Well, to start off, we'll make it a disambiguation, to the two different pages. Then, we'll perhaps have one with (color picker block) at the end, and another with (value block) - or something like that. Of course, that's just one option. What do you guys think?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 14:43, 23 June 2010 (UTC)- So...
- "Set Pen Color to () (color-picker input block)"
- "Set Pen Color to () (number input block)"
- Wow, that's a bit long... but it includes the type of input for the block and has the "(block)" bit. :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:49, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
- So...
- I like (color picker block) and (number block) - what do you think? Or should color-picker have a dash? I'm not sure. As for the parenthesis idea, I think it doesn't have much of a meaning, and would just confuse people.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:54, 24 June 2010 (UTC)- So we're going with:
- "Set Pen Color to () (color-picker input block)"
- "Set Pen Color to () (number input block)"
- Is that what you want? Oh - I think if we didn't put the dash, the title name for that block might look a bit weird... do you want the dash or not?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:51, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

- Yeah sure we'll have the dash :P. But not the words "input" - I don't think it's entirely necessary, considering it doesn't do much, and just makes the titles longer. So yeah :)

- I think this use of the word "block" is confusing. The whole thing is a block. The part you guys are talking about is/should be called a "slot" or "input slot." IMHO. —Brian Harvey (talk) 20:10, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
