How do you edit the mod list?

I couldn't figure it out. I want Scramble to link to Scramble, not the (outdated and off-topic) forum thread.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 10:21, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

So change the link.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:25, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
EDIT: Look what links there; only this and List of Scratch Extensions.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:26, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
I can't figure out how to edit the link... I'm not good at these things :(.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 10:44, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh, yeah. I thought it wasn't a mod though. I'm removing it.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, mod share is listed, and that's not a mod. Maybe that should be put on top, separately? Anyway, it isn't in extensions anymore, either...
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 13:59, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes it is.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:01, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Huh? You're right... it wasn't there 5 minutes ago...
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 14:02, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
You mean in the category? That's because you accidentally uncategorized it. ;)

Deletion error

Error deleting file: Could not create directory "deleted/s/z/y".
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 02:26, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Were you deleting individual versions or the whole page?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:11, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
EDIT: Oh, I just got that too. :/ I was able to delete a page though.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:26, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Smileys!

You can now use smileys! Use:

  • {{Smile}} to make :)
  • {{Sad}} to make :(
  • {{Grin}} to make :D
  • {{Wink}} to make ;)
  • {{Tease}} to make :P
  • {{Hmm}} to make :/

Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 08:40, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Why can't we just use the images?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:49, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Why use image smileys anyway? :P (But yeah, +1 to scimonster)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 11:59, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Actually, those were originally uploaded for the BBCode article, but they can be used if you really like the Scratch forums images. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:04, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
We don't really have any other smileys, do we? Anyway, now we have
{{RollEyes}} for Forum Smiley - Rolleyes.png
{{Glasses}} for B)‎
{{Angry}} for x(
{{Laugh}} for LOL‎

BWOG (talk | contribs) 13:08, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Text smilies? :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:21, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Hehehe I can imagine adding all the modified ones :P
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 13:20, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Don't. ;P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:21, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
But I could... Like >:) and O.O and -_- and even more. (But apparently nobody somebody doesn't want them)
BWOG (talk | contribs) 13:26, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Can you make them {RollEyes}, {Cool}, {Angry}, and {lol}? And {XD}?
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 14:07, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
YAY SMILEYS!!! :)
Dazman (talk | contribs) 03:58, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
What happened to my signature there O.o
Dazman (talk | contribs) 03:58, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Fixed it.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:23, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
You know what? These mess up the formatting. Look: {{sad}} :( and now it's in preformatted text. We shouldn't use these.

File Upload Error

I was trying to upload a js file but i wouldn't work. But I thought it took js files... Error? Glitch?
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 12:51, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

It doesn't do SB or SPRITE files either. Just use the image types. :/
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:30, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
But it says that it does...
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 18:21, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Scanimation redirect

Sci, why did you delete it? It's a redirect, so if someone linked to it it would go to the other page. It doesn't hurt to have the redirect. Unless the people who registered the trademark get mad at that.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 20:12, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

I should have used the "copyright violation" option for once. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:13, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
That doesn't answer my question. Shouldn't we keep it?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 19:44, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

As the message says by Scimonster, "(As JSO said: "The word scanimation® is a registered trademark, and the Scratch Team was contacted by lawyers for it to be removed. This title has been suggested by the inventor of Scanimations® so we should use this one.")"
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 02:18, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Still, no one answers my question. What is wrong with having a redirect?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 02:46, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Copyright violation. I'm not sure if we should even mention it in the article.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:01, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

In Progress Template

I was wondering if there was a template for a page in progress? Like if someone was working on a project so that Admins know not to delete it or other editors know not to change it until the person is done. I think a good template would be {{InProgress|Dazman}}. That would display a header showing that Dazman was working on it.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 01:44, 29 May 2011 (UTC) EDIT: Template Completed :). Here is a preview:
{{Template:In Progress|Dazman}}

Caution.png This article or section is currently undergoing major changes by Dazman (talk | contribs) and may be incomplete. Please avoid largely modifying this page's contents until this template has been removed. (Date?)
Ooh ooh ooh that would be great :) Uh, one thing though - the articles on the Scratch Wiki aren't normally very long, so an edit conflict isn't very likely. :P
The template would be nice though :D
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:26, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I likez! Just, "Avoid modifying this page's contents". ;)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:28, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
But then people would wonder "why is this template here?" :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 12:33, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Why?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:36, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Uh....Isn't this similar to

ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 20:45, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Its different that the stub. Wikipedia has one.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 22:47, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
It looks okay... but does it specifically have to have the username of the person who is working on it? Perhaps it should say "for more information about what is being improved on, visit the talk page" -- so it can be more similar to a stub. What do you think?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 02:20, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Whats wrong with saying the name. I like it because then I know who is working on it and I can contact them on their talk page if I want to talk about the pages progress. If you do not include the username, then you have to dig through the history to find whose working on it.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:23, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Or you could have it directly at the top of the talk page... thats simple and easy to find. I wonder what Chris and Jon think... hmmm
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 13:19, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Did you forget I'm an admin?? What's wrong with this?

...Or maybe we could have it only viewable by wiki contributors. The template then would only apply if you were an editor so regular visitors wouldnt be confused.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 15:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I don't think we currently have a way to detect if the user is logged in. :/ If we did, we would have this show if true and stub if false, but that would be built into the template.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:07, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
So... Are we adding this?
Dazman (talk | contribs) 07:39, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure... I think you could add it though; none of us said "no, I don't like it" :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 22:30, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
I think we should add it. Maybe we should make a note about this being directed towards editors.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:28, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
I did it.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:36, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

New Template

So yeah I had an idea about a template for collaborations. On their page it would have the creator, how many projects, the 'birth' date, and how many members. Maybe more.

I just need some help on how to start one. :S Do you like the idea?
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 22:51, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

I bet scimonster is already working on it.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 23:34, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh...
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs)
I'm not, but how did you know I want one??
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:07, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Is this what you wanted? I took the stuff from the List of Collaborations. :3
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:23, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
See ProgrammingFreak. Scimonster is too awesome.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 03:02, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
LOL thanks.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:02, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh yeah! That is great? Is there a way that I could learn how to do better templates? And you are awesome!
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 18:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
I basically copied the code from Template:Block, and I did something else because I learned a little something from Template:Quote. :P Thank you!

More magic words

A "USERNAME" variable, that says your username! It can't be done by doing {{PAGENAME:Special:MyPage}}. That only shows "MyPage".

Less than and greater than parser functions: {{#lt:num|true|false}} & {{#gt:num|true|false}}. PLZ?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:15, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

EDIT: I also want a behavior switcher: __NOSUBPAGE__
It tells MediaWiki that it is not a subpage.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:42, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Usernames can be displayed by typing ~~~. Apart from that though, all of the parser functions and such that we have right now *came* with the wiki. I'm not sure if we can really add more. It may be possible, but what would these be needed for? :/
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 13:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
No, I want a variable that shows your username in the page, without editing!
The quote on my talk page is not complete. Dumbledore actually said "I must ask you, Harry, whether there is anything you'd like to tell me. Anything at all." I would put in the username variable there.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:32, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
And I would use the gt for if the pagesize is greater than 32, it would warn that an archive is preferable.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:32, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I'm not sure :/. I see what you mean now, but I still don't know if I can do it. Here's a link for JSO to see: [1]

because we're awesome *smirks*
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 19:37, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
And some discussions are still too early to archive xD
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 01:46, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
hehehe we're so talkative :3
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 01:57, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
What is the correct time for archiving?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 03:42, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah we do have too many discussion. I think the correct time to archive is after 10 discussions have stopped. By the way I just realized that I have been on the wiki for 3 years and 3 months! Wanna know what else I realized? Scimonster has been on the wiki for about half that time and made more than twice as many edit...

Oops jonathan is right. I screwed up the dates XD. I meant I have been on Scratch for 3 years. The wiki I have been on since October of 2010 XD. And lol Home schooled people have way too much free time.

It doesn't seem to be too much of a problem until we get to 40, actually.

@veggie Uh we archive the Community Portal whenever it gets too big :P We archive by date - see what Lucario's said on my talk page for an example.

BWOG (talk | contribs) 15:17, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Ironic? I think not. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:18, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

PNG or png

Does it really matter?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:49, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Nope, they're both the same file type, just capitalized differently, other then the fact that you have to make sure you use the right one. It would be easier to do png because of that.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 13:16, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
My screenshot tool automatically does it capitalized. I know it's the same filetype.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:21, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Can we agree that it's pointless to decapitalize it once it's uploaded?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:04, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

I think it's nice to have them all uniform; then I don't have to remember whether the extension is capitalised or not.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 16:17, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Well, there are these keys labeled Ctrl, C and V. lol
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:19, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
It does take much time, so does it really matter if I lowercase them when I find them?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 16:26, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
You mean doesn't? :P
I guess not... but isn't it sort of a way to raise your edit count for no good reason?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:28, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Forum Smiley - Rolleyes.png
I really don't care at all about my edit count.

^^
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:41, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
There's nothing wrong with changing PNGs to pngs or leaving them as they are...
And since veggie's not doing it to raise his edit count, it doesn't matter how many edits he gets from it :P

adding images to pages

How do I add a image to a page?
Bfn1 (talk | contribs) 12:18, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Use a link to the file in the File namespace after uploading it to Scratch Wiki, or use the image HTML tag.
Rdococ (talk | contribs) 12:23, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
The HTML tag <img> doesn't work here; look:
<img src="http://www.freerice.com/sites/default/themes/freerice/images/logo.gif" alt="Freerice.com" />
You can also read Help:Images.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:39, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
I uploaded a image to a page [3] and it worked but I just looked at the page again to edit one of the words I misspelled and were my image was,was a red link w/the name of the image and it said my image was deleted(do you know why)?
Bfn1 (talk | contribs) 00:35, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
I moved it, because it had a really ambiguous name.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:07, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Ok
Bfn1 (talk | contribs) 20:00, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Over redirect

Look at one of veggie's recent moves: Quote Icon.png Quote:

  1. What does the "over redirect" mean?
  2. Why did you write "i'm am"?? :P

I've never seen this before...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:21, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

it's on top of a redirect so it basically killed the redirect with all of it's pageness. oh and i'm am.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:23, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't get that...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:30, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
get what?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:33, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
What "over redirect" means. Is it automatically updating all redirects?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:34, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
No. It means I moved the page on top of a redirect, completely obliterating the previous redirect to DUST.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:41, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh, you moved it to a redirect, which got... shouldn't there be a delete and move page option?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:03, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

How to Prevent Downloads

You know how some people don't want other people stealing their projects? Should we make a page on how to make a hidden sprite that crashes Scratch when it is downloaded? I believe scimonster has a project like that.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 08:57, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Is that really possible? I thought the best you could do is crash Scratch when the project is run. :/
I don't know if the Scratch Team would like it, but I wouldn't mind the article :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:40, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, it needs to be when it's run.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:49, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
I think that there is a method of doing it. I will find out when I get home.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 18:55, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
I had used a [when <[1] = [1]> is true] hat block to start the script, and it didn't work for other people.
However... I also used:
run
 forever
  stop all
I needed that to upload, but maybe it stopped it. :/
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:45, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and what I did doesn't crash, just EXITS. :D
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:45, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

SVG

I would like SVG to be added to the types of files we can upload. The reason for this would be to upload nice vector images of the blocks in the Experimental Viewer and eventually 2.0, because it's extremely difficult to get good raster versions of the blocks.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:43, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

SVG? Is that another filetype for images? (Sorry for being dumb. ^^) Why do we need it? Don't you prefer PNGs?
Is this too many questions? Should I stop now? You really want me to? Do I have to? Should I use 4 tildes or 3 and 5 to sign?
ENOUGH!! XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:52, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
SVG is Scalable Vector Graphics. It's a vector image file type, which would be good for the vector Flash created blocks.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:58, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
I'd like that.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:26, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Block Usage

Maybe in the block template, we should have another section: Used [num]. We would find out from [4]. For example, when green flag clicked is most used, forever is second, wait () secs is third.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:14, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

This is definitely an interesting idea, but I don't really think its necessary... the number could always be changing, and it doesn't really benefit anybody... odds are if people are looking for information on a block, they're not specifically interested in how often its used by Scratchers. An article on Scratch Stats would be fine, as well as mentioning something such as "In the Scratch Block Usage graph, the top three are x, y, and z". What do you think?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:27, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
So we could have someone check over it every month or so...
It is interesting info.
Yeah, that sounds good. :)

Stop Using Hypehns!

Hey Everyone, I just wanted to make a grammatical note; however this sentence should explain it. Do NOT combine two complete sentences with a hyphen. Those are only for combining similar or connected words like third-century. The hyphen ( ‐ ) is a punctuation mark used to join words and to separate syllables of a single word.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 07:04, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

We're using dashes, not hyphens :P (Example: "Yeah, I went to the park yesterday - it rained a lot though D:")
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 08:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh, wait - it looks a lot like a dash, but it's a hyphen that I'm getting D: Grrr wish there was a dash key.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 08:53, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Lol. :P Okeydok.

O_o — hehehe
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 12:43, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

We probably shouldn't even have as many em dashes as we do...
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:01, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

<offtopic>We aren't using enough of these: ʥ </offtopic> Does it really matter? I don't see much of a difference.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 16:24, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
What the heck is that???????
Grammar.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:27, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Voiced alveolo-palatal affricate. Are the buttons on the top-right of a numpad and left of the number keys different symbols? I always use the one by the numbers.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 18:23, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
but those are ipa, not english.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 22:40, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

inactivity

I can see all the way down to June 7th in Recent Changes. ^^ If we're active, I sometimes can't see what today started with.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:33, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Yo we've got lives outside the wiki xP
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 05:12, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't really know what to edit anymore ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:09, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
I only make small edits now. My life is pretty busy. Im working on a scratch physics engine also. Although I only have the bare minimum right now, it is designed to give accurate motions of solid objects :D. I don't want people to see it yet because they will be like "This sucks".
Dazman (talk | contribs) 08:20, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Me too! Although I joined way later
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 14:11, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm smackin' all y'allz inactivity in the face.

Having a category for users

Should we? As in, User:JSO pages.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:53, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't think so...
Wikipedia does it though. :S
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:12, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
heheheheh I say yes.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:35, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
But this requires a major community discussion.
I only did mine as a joke. ^^ It wouldn't work if it actually got categorized.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:48, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh wait, a single category? I don't know. lol
I don't know what's wrong with the idea.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:51, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Well, would everyone be under the same category, or would we separate admins, bureacrats, etc. Also, not everybody would know they should categorize their user page.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:00, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
But as with pages, we could categorise it for them. And I think, for example, I would have both the Users and Administrators categories, JSO would have all three, etc. It might be handy.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 16:05, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Can't we just check the UserList?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:21, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Many users probably haven't heard of the user list, especially the newer ones. Don't we want to HELP THE CHILDREN? :(

*cough*Scratch Wiki:Welcome*cough*
You can add a link.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:40, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Can I write a thing about the admins that are here?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 16:42, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
By all means. :D
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:44, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Patrolling

Do we (admins (veggie)) need (should) to be patrolling edits? Quote Icon.png Quote:

Author: When an edit has been made by a non-admin, it is an 'unpatrolled' edit. So either by editing it further or going on to the page and clicking "mark this page as patrolled" it becomes a 'patrolled' edit. This is just to let the other admins know that no vandalism has been made... We don't really use it though, except when it does it automatically through editing...

After all, we only let in safe users (usually. :P)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:19, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

It's not necessary. Don't waste your time checking edits, make articles! Add information! Add images! Have a headache fun!
BWOG (talk | contribs) 22:25, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
We don't have to check every edit for vandals, so nah :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:15, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
No...that would slow down and evenually kill all updating and editing. :D
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 23:17, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
I check over every edit anyways. :P
