unimportant message

Hello. My name is Jacob, but more importantly, my user name is veggieman001. I am bothering all y'alls today to ask you a question: "Do you think I should be an administrator (sysop in technical speak) on the wiki?" I'd like to become one of the privileged few, and here's some reasons why.

  • I would be able to have more tools in my arsenal to assist me in editing the wiki. For example, the abilities to move files, edit protected pages, delete pages and files, and access undelete logs.
  • Eventually, I could assist with account creation, because then we'd have more contributors! :D
  • Finally, and most importantly, I am a power-hungry moron and will eat you all if appointed as an administrator.

I am curious to see what other people think about whether I should become an admin or not.

Sincerely,
veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 04:23, 13 May 2011 (UTC) P.S. You just lost the game

Oh, and if I become one, I'll stop marking major edits as minor.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 04:24, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS OH YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DESERVE TO BE AN ADMIN AND THIS ISN'T SARCASM :D :D :D TEH FIVE OF US WILL BE UNSTOPPABLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You're active, you're edits are good, and you're dedicated - and YEAH WE NEED MORE ACCOUNT APPROVERS :D :D :D (I think I might make a tutorial in my sandbox or something today ;D)
I'll fight for you! :)
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 04:27, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
veggieman 1, not veggieman 0
:D
Thanks for the support! I try my best, and apparently that's good enough.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 04:29, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Go veggie!
Chris, hurry up on that sysop tutorial, I still haven't figured out everything. XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:31, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
veggieman 2, not veggieman 0
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 04:33, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
How will dazman feel about this? He's applied and been rejected. veggie does have more edits though...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:46, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
DAZMAN! Yes, you! Opinion?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs)
(Sorry for my lousy indenting)
Yeah, I want you to be an admin - you definitely deserve it!!! :D :D :D Wheeeeeeeeeeeee :D :D :D
(scimonster, you don't need a sysop tutorial xD You already know how to delete and protect pages - that's all you'll need to know :P)
(Dazman hasn't really done much recently, but then again, he was very active at the time he asked for adminship :P)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:55, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Created the tutorial now :3 It's kinda sloppy, I was rushed; I'll come back and edit it sometime. Clicky
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 04:56, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

It's basically a tutorial on account creation. Unfortunately I can't access that page to see what you're talking about.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:07, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
I think it would be great if veggie was a sysops. Scratch has become second to minecraft sorry guys. Thats why I don't edit alot. I used to love the wiki and I still do, but I don't have time nor the motivation to edit. I think Veggieman would be a great sysop.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:08, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh, Minecraft? XD
That's OK. I still love you.

Happy Birthday Moon

Forum Smiley - LOL.png LOL LOL (It's a little kid book, if you didn't know.)
The only thing stopping veggie from becoming an admin is the bureaucrats' inactivity. ^^
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:11, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Never heard of minecraft O.o?
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:13, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Now I have.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:15, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
The bureaucrats' inactivity won't stop us!!! We'll e-mail them if we have to >:D
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:22, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Lol. You posted in the Scratch Forums about minecraft XD. You could have just asked me.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:32, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Didn't think of it.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:34, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Lol. Minecraft is awesome. I highly recommend it. One reason why I have stopped scratching and editing is because I am learning to program in Java which is FAR more powerful than scratch.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:40, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Community portal ≠ random chat, m'kay? M'kay.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:42, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey there now. Your not a sysop yet :P
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:46, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

I can't believe nobody noticed my flaw in my speech. >:D
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:48, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

"here's" instead of :here are"?
@dazman: It's called mini-modding :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:51, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
No. It's in the list, though.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 05:52, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
I believe the proper response would be. "Please do not use the CP as a chat room as stated in (Insert link to Wiki Guidelines Here)" Instead of saying Don't use the CP as a chat room. Mini-modding is good but it has to be done professionally and with good reason.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:56, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Hey hey hey Dazman, there's no such thing as mini-modding here - because we don't have mods! :P So we all act as if we are mods... well, sort of xD (Being an admin has nothing to do with reprimanding others, btw.)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:11, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Are you implying that the wiki is just a community of equals? I think not. If it was then all people that were completely trustworthy would be sysops so that they could manage the News and delete pages and stuff.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 06:28, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree, dazman.
Here, I think "mini-modding" is good if done by our experienced old-timers. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:36, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Scimonster understands :D

Hey veggie what is your screen monitor size? [1]
Dazman (talk | contribs) 19:35, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
1280 x 1024 for the win, broseph.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 22:37, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if I'm all whiny and stuff but can I be an admin now
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 23:02, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Sure hope so. :3
Bureaucrats Read!!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:40, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Do you really think they're as active on the wiki as you? xD Let's wait a week or two.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:36, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
BTW, Lucario did mention that he'd talk it over with JSO (he said so in a reply to Chris's comment on Message Center).
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:38, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Lucario, are you done talking to JSO about it?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 23:28, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
I think he's wondering why you need the admin powers -- there's no shame in being a normal contributor, after all.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 17:58, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
I know there is no shame; I haven't a problem with being one. However, I see a lot of images that should be moved, and when I'm converting files I could delete the old ones. I feel that I would be able to contribute more. In addition, we only really have one or two active administrators.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:19, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Scimonster, Chrischb, and Jonathanpb are all active and are administrators. Why are more administrators needed also?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:16, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Chrischb isn't on much, and Jonathanpb is only on for a little bit. There any active administrators in a timezone anywhere near mine, so much of the time when I convert images, the old versions are just left there and nobody notices them.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 19:30, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
It's really not that important, is it?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 22:20, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Yo I'm on every day (I can promise you that) but I don't always make edits. D: I can't think of anything to edit, that's why I like wikiprojects so much.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 05:35, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
JUST GIVE IN AND MAKE HIM AN ADMIN :D :D :D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 05:35, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
BTW, why is being an admin such a risk? You've said yourself that being an admin isn't like you have god powers or anything, it's that you have a few extra tools to make the wiki a better place. Does it hurt you to give one more person the tools?

(at veggie) Uh, we do come on the wiki a few times each day - we just don't show up in Recent Changes as much as you xD
Ooh, you need the tools? Well, then you should definitely be an admin! It'd be much more convenient than you telling us what to do, anyway :P
(at bureaucrats) Making veggie an admin would give him some more tools that he would use - and don't you trust him? Seriously, if we had twenty admins - all active and trustworthy - I wouldn't complain. (Though TBH I don't think all of them should be doing account approval; it could get a bit messy :P)
Please, just make veggie an admin - he would use the tools, and that should be reason enough.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:31, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
If you all agree veggieman should become a sysop, I can do it (+ the account approval thingy which I already activated for scimonster) . But, as Lucario621 already said, I really wonder what's so important about being a sysop here; basically all new features you get are anti-grief tools which we don't need because we only have trusted accounts. Ah well.
JSO (talk | contribs) 08:53, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh didn't you read the messages? ^^ veggie said that he would move files and delete replaced ones if he had the power :P It isn't like we would want to be admins for the rollback xD
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:38, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Just anti-grief tools?
  • Ability to create more archives for the community portal
  • Ability to protect the archives and edit those boxes
  • Ability to delete pages deemed unnecessary (it does happen)
  • Ability to edit that list of tags below the edit box
  • Protect user pages if requested
  • Ability to move files (see above)
  • blah blah blah :P
    Chrischb (talk | contribs) 09:41, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Actually this lists them all... xD Though not all are really important
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 09:42, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
@JSO: I can't approve accounts yet. :/
Come on, just give in.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:47, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh yeah, and veggie needs autopatrol. All those welcoming new user stuff and I can't stand the sight of a blue link. xP
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:07, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Pweeze come back and reply to us :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:46, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

People are so untrusting. I think the question should be "Why shouldn't we make him an admin?" not "why should he be an admin?". Lets go down the extremely long list of why he shouldn't be an admin:

I think we've said all we can :P Now for the bureaucrats to decide?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:05, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Its been forever since I've posted on the wiki XD. Im waiting for Scratch 2.0.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 06:52, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you to everyone who gave support! :D (sidenote: am I able to approve accounts now?)
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 00:40, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Scratch Day!

Include in S:N?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:58, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Si

The wiki forum thread in Announcements

I have a few suggestions about it:

  • Make one in All About Scratch, called "Need help? Check out the Scratch Wiki"
  • Sticky both
  • Link to this in the homepage.

What do you think?
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 14:05, May 23 2011 (UTC)

You forgot you're sig. Just do ~~~~ at the end of you're comment. What do you mean by "Link to this in the homepage"? Do you mean link to the wiki on the Scratch homepage? Because there's already a spot there for it.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:11, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
That's what it is. We have a couple links to it already, at the top of List of Scratch Modifications and List of Scratch Extensions.
BTW, don't forget to sign! ;) I added it.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:13, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
BWOG, he wants it on the wiki homepage.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:13, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
No, he wants the Scratch Wiki linked to in the Scratch forums :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 02:59, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
No, I want the Scratch forum page linked in the wiki, and stickied.
Hardmath123 (talk | contribs) 08:02, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh ^^ Uh, where could it be linked to... Maybe in Scratch Wiki:About?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 11:43, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Maybe.
Scimonster (talk | contribs)

<math>

The math thing doesn't work. So, unless you're going to enable it, we don't need the button. Can you remove it?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:19, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I've tried it. I don't know how it's supposed to work, but Lucario said at one point it would be hard to change it. I wouldn't mind if it was replaced with underlining though!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:25, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Uhhh... hard? From Wikipedia: "To have math rendered in a particular MediaWiki installation, one has to set $wgUseTeX = true; in LocalSettings.php"

I'm sure JSO could figure it out.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:37, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

What exactly would happen...

...if we deleted the front page? :D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 02:44, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Let's try it!!! 8D (lol)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 02:59, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
It's just like any other page.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 03:09, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Why? I think it would produce thousands of errors across the wiki and site. XD
It's the Main Page, and has tons of links on the forums.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:27, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Red links on help pages

Most of the top 45 on Special:WantedPages are all linked to on help pages, or template pages. Should we get rid of all the red links or just leave them? They don't need to be there, so I don't see why not.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:55, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Instead, why not redirect them to Scratch Wiki:Unavailable?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:05, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I'll just do a few for now, in case people think otherwise.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 16:13, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
WAIT, not yet.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:14, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh... sorry. (At least you're an admin...)
BWOG (talk | contribs) 16:16, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I won't delete them yet, unless there's serious opposition.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:17, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
There's arguably no reason to fix them really... Also, what is the point behind Scratch Wiki unavailable? We can instead just change the text that says "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page." That way we don't have to manually add the redirects.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 18:57, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
These are the pages that have no use, and are just taking up space in the wanted pages.
