Templates

You know about templates? Well, as I seen pressing tab gets you somewhere else in the page, I made a Tab template. Let's test it with some code. Actually, do it at the Sandbox.
Rdococ (talk | contribs) 12:21, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

it doesn't work.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:33, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
What does this "tab" template do?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:03, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Also, your templates "1" and "0" were pointless. If you want those characters available, maybe they can be added to the edittools.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:35, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
I do not mind if they are deleted. The tab one adds a tab character, so you don't have to add it manually using a textbox that accepts the tab key. It does not work correctly in talk pages when having an indent other than the default.
Rdococ (talk | contribs) 17:57, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
How does it do that? It looked like just an invisible period to me.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:01, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
it doesn't work.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:29, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
So I'm deleting it. Sorry, rdococ.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:27, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Did you want the ░ and █ characters added to the edittools?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:21, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

The gobo on the Main Page is smaller than the Scratch Cat head

Should it be enlarged? It looks a bit off right now to me.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:33, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

they have the exact same dimensions. it looks fine to me.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:05, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Technically they do, but technically gobo has a white border.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:07, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
as i said before, they look fine to me.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:15, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Ooh... there used to be a larger Gobo (but its top and bottom were left out), but I updated the image so the whole Gobo could fit. Lucario reprimanded me, however; the newer Gobo didn't match with the Scratch cat :P He reverted the image... but somehow his revert got reverted :P I 'fixed' the file now ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:44, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
HEY WHY DOESN'T MY EDIT SHOW UP ON THE HISTORY AND MAIN PAGE RAHHHHHHHH help please ^^ :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:46, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh, that was you veggie ^^ Why'd you revert it though? I put it back to the way that a bureaucrat wanted it...
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:47, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
you didn't. you changed it to one of my edits, which made it badly transparent. I was at least making it look betrar for the time being.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 06:39, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Eh? It looked like Lucario's one to me :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 06:58, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

I personally like the cropped gobo rather than the zoomed out gobo, since it does not change the quality of the image, however it you all prefer the zoomed out gobo, that's fine with me too :-).

WikiProject:Redirect Categorization

Testing out who wants to do a WikiProject. :P

Mission: Properly categorize all 1275 redirects. I have reviewed the first 200.

After you do a certain amount, post so it doesn't get redone.

EDIT: Work off of the List of redirects!!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:17, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Here are the categories: Category:Redirects, Category:Shortcuts, and Category:Capitalization Redirects.
Shortcuts (S:<NAME>) go under shortcuts (obviously :P), redirects to that page exactly but with a different capitalization are capitalization redirects, and the rest are regular.
Simple, right? :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:17, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Got the first 500. *sweats* Time to get off...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:01, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Ooh, I'll help too... I have to go offline now though, but I'll do some when I come on later.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 22:38, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Later today ;D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 22:41, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Hang on, I'm confused... I was going through some ones like 'costume creator' redirecting to 'Paint Editor', changing the category from 'Capitalization Redirects' to 'Redirects'... I wondered who had put them in the 'Capitalization Redirects' category, so I checked the history, and it was you O_o I think we're confused here :S
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 03:04, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Lol that was a few months back... I guess we're not gonna smash into edit conflicts here then.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 03:09, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

(marking where I left off; I can't do much right now): I'm going through the Capitalization Redirects bit... I stopped when I got to H; if you're going to do that category do H and onwards (ooh I love having a good wikiproject to do :3).
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 03:11, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I put those when I made the category, then I changed my mind about how it would work (only be true capitalization redirects).
Thanks for helping!
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 03:23, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm going to take S now, Chris.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:50, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

All finished in the Capitalization Redirects :D :D :D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 06:58, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Okay, did 501 - 700 ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:43, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

701-1000.
Who's taking the last 275? :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:56, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
What do we do about the uncategorized User:Scimonster/redirect?
I know don't categorize user pages, but this is a redirect and I already have my user page categorized XD. :S
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:04, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh, why do you need that redirect? ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:41, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Ooh, I'll do those redirects (if Chris doesn't protest); you've done so many already xD
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:42, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
WAIT: Are we working from the List of redirects or the categories!?
I was on the list.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:14, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Lol :P
I used the list of redirects...
Sowwee, I forgot to do redirect stuff yesterday ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:06, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Good.
I forgot to post that at first though...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:50, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I wanted to do some >:( And anyways, the redirects aren't very useful if we're using the Google search...
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:48, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
You can still do them; we're just categorizing (unless he finished).
Why do I need my redirect subpage? For the shortcuts on my page. XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:50, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Questioning the FAQ

The answer to Scratch Wiki:Frequently Asked Questions#Can we write articles about blocks from Scratch Modifications? is "Yes, but it is best if the blocks in each Scratch Modification are put in the same article."

When I started, the third page I created was BYOB3 blocks (sorry non-admins). Then WeirdF deleted it. I wrote it because of this FAQ part.

Should that page be restored, or should we change that part of the FAQ?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:10, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be better if those articles were merged into their modifications' ones? :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 10:01, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, that was the only one, and that's what WeirdF did.
Should I change the FAQ?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 10:03, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
I think we should wait for more opinions :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 10:03, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Since BYOB does have quite a broad range of features, and the new blocks is one of them, I suppose it would be fair if you really wanted to create an article specifically for the blocks. However merging it with the BYOB article should also be considered, of course.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:36, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Why are we using the Google search?

I don't see why it would have been necessary to change it. You can't go directly to pages, stuff doesn't show up for a few days, and you can get a drop down list of pages while you're searching with the default one.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 14:20, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

that's what i said...
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:57, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

WeirdF (talk | contribs) 17:12, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

I wish we could see the search statistics :P How exactly are they being used to help the wiki, anyway? ^^ I don't see anything - but as we can't see the statistics, I don't know where to look...
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:52, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Contact a bureaucrat. :P
Oh, and here's why we switched.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:51, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
JSO gave me access to the Scratch Wiki Google Analytics page :3
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 08:46, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Link, please?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:32, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
No you have to link your Google Account to the Analytics page, which only JSO can do. Ask him if you like.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 14:44, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I might do that. What do the stats even show?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:51, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
they would just show page usage
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:53, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
If it just shows page views, we have that already: Special:PopularPages - views of each page, counted highest to lowest.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 16:23, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I meant on search patterns
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 16:31, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I can see how that's useful, if people can see them. ^^
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:36, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh the stats aren't page views - they show what searches are done the most.
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:56, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Veggie explained.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:28, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Internal links to index.php pages

Is there a way to make links to http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/index.php?title=Scratch_Wiki (replace with pagename) appear internal, because they are?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:36, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

plainlinks and color changing.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:38, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I've done that (see my talk) but about the visit sensing I want also. ^^
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:38, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Don't all page links go to /wiki/[page name]? Why do we need to change stuff with index.php?
BWOG (talk | contribs) 19:02, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Like to edit, redirect=no.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:04, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
index.php links are sometimes used internally by the wiki software. Try to avoid them in links. /wiki/ should do just fine :) Thanks!
JSO (talk | contribs) 20:53, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
But say I want to include a link to edit this page? That's [1]. But I'd like it to just appear internal- and how about to /accounts/ pages?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:54, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Mod Central was deleted?

Why?

Not again....
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 17:56, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

The site was down and it wasn't written properly.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:17, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
The site is working now. Forum Smiley - Wink.png
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 18:28, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
So we'll have a discussion and maybe it will be restored. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:14, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
But it got deleted because external unofficial websites aren't allowed articles - not because the website wasn't working :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:58, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Why don't we see about an exception- this is a famous one after all. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:26, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
RHY is famous. Does that mean he gets an article?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 13:57, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Scratchers and Projects don't deserve articles. Doesn't say anything about famous fansites.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:06, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
What really is the difference? How do we decide which ones are deserving? This argument will probably be repeated again and again, but I still believe that there is no fair way to decide. Do you have one?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 22:58, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
scimonster, we decided it here - don't you remember? :P
Well, I suppose we could follow the rule with RPG articles: If the website is successful enough and well known, it can have an article. How's that?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:54, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Fair. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:13, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't know about you, but if I were the Scratch Team, I'd say its OK to have an article on the Mod Central site as long as there's nothing inappropriate on it (both the website and article) :-).
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:18, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Forgot the nowiki tags. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:03, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I think it's perfectly fine to create an article about Mod central :)
JSO (talk | contribs) 08:47, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

A Image Viewer

When you click a maximize button on a image, a popup 'theater' could come up. Like this: Colorbox

And it is open source, so we can edit it. I know jQuery (what it is made in).
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 18:27, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Might be cool.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:15, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Wikia does that, and, IMO, it reduces usability for editors.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 22:36, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Changed my mind, veggie's right. :3
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:24, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't like it. It gets in my way a lot.
ThePCKid (talk | contribs) 21:15, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Okay. I just thought it would be a cool edition ;)
ProgrammingFreak (talk | contribs) 19:39, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
*addition ;) :P
@ThePCKid: We generally post at the bottom.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:35, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Years and months

Should we have articles for years and months? Here's a couple examples.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 18:06, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Seems like a cool idea, but has enough really happened? Probably just years. :3
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:09, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Ooh ooh ooh you mean like a timeline article? That would be awesome :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:55, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
He means one for each year/month, i.e. 2011 or March. However, a timeline article would be nice.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 00:58, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Who wants to set one up in their sandbox?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:10, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh, I'll get to work ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:40, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
I like yours, except for... sigh XD. I'm going to try a TOC for it in my sandbox.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:31, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh, finished - Scratch Timeline. Yes, I did use references xD
I doublechecked the dates and links, but it'd be nice if someone could check them too :3 (BTW, some of the posts were posted at a different time than the event - beware ;))
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 11:44, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Nice! In my edit summary, I hit enter too soon and couldn't write "also you can't do 'SCRATCH WIKI WAS RELEASED WOOOOOOOOOOO :D :D :D'". Really, it looks unprofessional. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:01, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Took about forever, but here you go: User:Scimonster/Sandbox :3
Like it?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:21, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
I personally don't think its very much necessary... its a waste of articles -- after all, we don't want that many stubs... If you want to create a single thread of the History of Scratch or the Timeline of Scratch, than sure.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:13, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
We did. Check it out! :D
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 23:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
OK - nice! :-)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:20, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Does anyone know why?

Lately, only the homepage of Scratch is down; not everything else. Does anybody know why only the front page is affected?
ThePCKid (talk | contribs) 21:19, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Hasn't been down for me.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 21:28, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me that, BWOG! It's a good thing that there is Ctrl+F5.
ThePCKid (talk | contribs) 21:32, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

More MediaWiki pages

What's the page that shows a non-existent page? Like this. But if you go to [2], and click "search for this page title" it doesn't take you to User:Scimonster/Sandbox, as if you did it here.

Also, the descriptions (technically titles of the navigation bar; that's not what we use the CP for.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:01, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

It doesn't take you to your sandbox because by default it only searches on the main namespace.
BWOG (talk | contribs) 16:55, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
I know that. I want to change the code from search for this page title to search for this page title.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:00, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Its MediaWiki:Noarticletext.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 23:10, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
