Categorizing the TOC

Should the Table of Contents be categorized? It would be under Category:TOC, a subcategory of Category:Main Pages.

I really can't decide :/ (Just posting to show that I've seen this)

Something better about the old search

We discussed redirects here, and we agreed that the Google search does much more than the new search, with a table provided by JSO.

However... that table is not complete. Here is what it should have been:

Default Google
0.00$/yr only!
Search! Check.jpg Check.jpg
Spelling correction? Cross.png Check.jpg
Keyword search? Cross.png Check.jpg
Track search stats? Cross.png Check.jpg
And use them for
improving the wiki?

you forgot:
to sign!
and that the standard search searches page content

Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 23:36, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh, yes.
HOW COULD I FORGET TO SIGN!!?!?!?!?!??
I've given 2 this time just to make sure there is no question who I am. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:11, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
EDIT: That failed.
I think I will just sign regularly.

Fatal Error when I try to upload images

When I go to Special:Upload, I get an error when I try to upload an image. JSO?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:26, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

EDIT: Only if I try to use the pull from internet. :/
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 04:34, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
So many times we've had this problem, or at least similar problems... Well if it's only when you upload from a URL then you could just download the image and then upload it.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 06:35, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
you can upload from url? is this one of those special sysop powers?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 06:58, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah! :P Though I'm not really sure why, it only makes things quicker. Anybody can upload images just as long as they download them.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 07:09, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Actually what I did was just entered the URL in the regular picture insert and it pulled it, no downloading. (Actually it put it in a folder "Temporary Internet Files" :P)
Maybe sysops can use the pull of web because we are trusted members and wouldn't take an inappropriate image. xD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:58, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
We can upload from url!? :O Uh... that's nice, but it doesn't really matter much :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:46, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
What, you didn't know!?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:14, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
even regular users can :D
idk why it doesn't work for you; it works for me just fine.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:24, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
We have a special thing where you put the url in, and doesn't use the file browser.
And how do I know you pulled that from the web?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:25, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
oh. I just dragged the image from the page and into the choose file box. and you don't, but you have to trust me.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:37, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I know you're trustworthy. :P

Need to find MediaWiki pages

Where is/are the page(s) that control the contents of the Toolbox? The header is at MediaWiki:Toolbox, I think. Also for text on Special Pages.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:30, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Specifically the text on this page, when you click "Return to Special:MyTalk."
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:08, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
EDIT: I found the special page text. Recent changes is at MediaWiki:Recentchangestext, for example.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:22, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
How do I set the variables in MediaWiki:Youhavenewmessages!?

Information

Having the Scratch site closed down causes a bunch of warnings when visiting a page with the scratchsig tag on. Just ignore these, and we can have a Scratch on the Wiki. Or, I can make an alternative to the current website on my userpage, and finally we can get back together. :)
Rdococ (talk | contribs) 20:41, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

...or we could wait till they're done...
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 20:46, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
It's not so bad. And the website's only ever down for at most a day.
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 20:49, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
i love that the wiki is safe from their server debacles; it only has trouble with people's profile pictures.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 20:54, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
+1 to WeirdF
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 23:04, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Temporary +2 to WeirdF, then it changes to =0 once the Scratch site is up again.

I am having problems with the Scratch website

I am having problems on the Scratch site. These include not being able to go to the forums, and literally not being able to contact the Scratch team. Can someone help me please?
Rdococ (talk | contribs) 13:59, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

hey, me too! but it's all gonna be okay soon!
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:03, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
For now, go to Alternative Scratch located on my userpage.

Rdococ (talk | contribs) 14:07, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
The Scratch website is working fine now (for me), but it's a bit slower than usual... and nearly an hour ago I couldn't connect to any pages - then again, that involved websites other than Scratch related ones :P
Our icons aren't loading here, though :/ Oh, now that I preview the page, they load :P

Sprite files will not upload

If you go to Special:Upload, it says:
Quote Icon.png Quote:

Author: Permitted file types: png, gif, jpg, jpeg, pdf, sb, sprite, py, fla, as, js, zip.
Text:  {{{1}}}

I'm trying to upload the default sprite with the name default.sprite. It says:

Upload warning

The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again.

Any help?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Whenever I get that message I save it as a duplicate and then upload. :S
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 05:37, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
What do you mean? I want to upload the actual sprite, not an image.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:39, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh sorry >_<
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 05:25, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I tried that though, and it seems it can't upload .sprite files. :(

Time...

The clocks on the four tildes posts are an hour behind
SpiritMaster (talk | contribs) 11:42, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

What's your timezone? It's 3 hours behind.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 11:46, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
the clock is seven hours ahead for me, but that's expected, because my timezone, pst, is utc -7. that's why there's utc after the sigs.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 15:04, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Well said, veggie! :D
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:05, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Let me test on my time zone... Mine is GMT.
EDIT: I'm UTC +1 which is GMT.
Rdococ (talk | contribs) Posted at 18:14, 2 May 2011 (GMT)
That is 17:14 UTC. Please keep times in UTC; it is easier to have it comparable. :)

Shortcutting to help pages and categories and maybe even users

I've been meaning to say this for a week, but I was always in bed when I remembered. XD

When I was on Wikipedia, I noticed that they have shortcuts to help pages. (Example.)

I was thinking, why not do the same here?

So:

Help pages
H:SHORTCUT
Category
C:SHORTCUT
User (only a maybe, if someone wants it)
U:NICKNAME

What do you think?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:27, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Some examples:
Categories:
C:SW - Category:Scratch Wiki
C:C - Category:Content
C:I - Category:Images
C:O - Category:Organization
C:H - Category:Help
C:S - Category:Scratch
C:S2 - Category:Scratch 2.0
C:TUT - Category:Tutorials
Help:
H:C - Help:Contents
H:I - Help:Images
H:R - Help:Redirects
H:WATCH - Help:Watchlist
H:TALK - Help:Talk pages
H:E & H:EDIT - Help:Editing pages
H:TABLE - Help:Tables
H:MOVE - Help:Moving a page
H:MW - Help:Magic words
I would be U:SCI.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:27, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Are these shortcuts really necessary? :S Well, I wouldn't use them :P

WHAT Happened

The server was down all day yesterday. Quote Icon.png Quote:

Author: It's been a whole day without the wiki. :'C
*dies*
Text:  Scimonster

Maybe Andres will explain more what happened?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 01:07, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

it's not really a huge deal. only one day isn't really anything. they were probably moving the wiki to a different sever like with the website, just at a different time.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:13, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Uh, did you read my quote? XD
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 01:16, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
yeah. it's not like no wiki for a day is *die*worthy. THERE ARE THINGS BESIDES SCRATCH, YOU KNOW*.
*not intended to be an offensive statement.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 01:22, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Please don't talk in a different font other than Arial or a sensible font.
Rdococ (talk | contribs) 14:57, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
I KNOW.
It was a joke, though I probably wasted more than 1/2 an hour. >_<
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 01:29, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Here are the technical details: For some reason the server was swapping like crazy. top reported kswap using up to 15% of the CPU and there were tons of apache processes. I ended up stopping appache completely and restarting it. The downtime was not a full day, it was from around 6pm to noon.
Andresmh (talk | contribs) 03:09, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh. I don't get all the technical stuff though. :P
i.e, the whole day in my timezone.
