Misspelling Redirects
What's wrong with them? And if they are banned, shouldn't the info on the main page be removed?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 20:06, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- I never agreed with getting rid of the misspelling redirects, and thought it was pointless doing so. I basically created hundreds of them and then it was decided that because it required a lot of work and because Wikipedia didn't do it they'd be removed. Kinda ridiculous in my opinion. But hey, they got removed, and you're not allowed to create them anymore, so yeah...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 21:02, 26 February 2011 (UTC) - WeirdF said it all... I never agreed with the deletion of misspelling redirects, but they were deleted anyway because the bureaucrats said so. Mind you, we went on strike before finally getting to work...
- Just because Wikipedia doesn't do it and because it's (supposedly) a lot of work shouldn't mean that we shouldn't create them. :/
- (Here's the past discussion, if you want to read it)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 22:51, 26 February 2011 (UTC) - +1 It wasn't even an outvote.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 22:54, 26 February 2011 (UTC)- Wait, what? In the past discussion I said I wanted them gone xD
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 02:51, 27 February 2011 (UTC)- I sorta wanted to make some. We aren't wikipedia! Anyways, I removed it from Scratch Wiki:FAQ.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:18, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- I sorta wanted to make some. We aren't wikipedia! Anyways, I removed it from Scratch Wiki:FAQ.
- Wait, what? In the past discussion I said I wanted them gone xD
- I bumped this to the bottom, to make sure everybody sees my point (I think I mentioned some months back that it's ok, as long as you have a good reason :-) )
- I quote WeirdF on the dicussion linked to by Jonathanpb, "Okay, we're back, and we have decided we think they should be removed, therefore, since it has been made as a community decision, the process should commence... :) " and if you see the quote within the context, it appears that the most likely meaning of "we" is WeirdF, Chrischb, and Jonathanpb. Thus you stated after the long discussion, that you agreed with the decision.
- Also, contrary to the popular belief, we did not remove mispelling redirects "just because Wikipedia doesn't do it". However, as Wikipedia is something that we look up to (as we definitely do want to be successful like their website), we do look for ideas, and one major issue was that a large percentage of the edits on the Scratch Wiki at the time were only relating to misspelling redirects (my rough estimate is about 50%). This was slowing us down to a large extent, when our editing time could definitely be used more usefully, such as by adding more information, improving clarity, making navigation easier, adding more pictures/improving pictures, etc. Also, if you have noticed, Wikipedia doesn't have it largely because it has a search system that automatically fixes most spelling/grammar mistakes. This is what we're working on at the Scratch Wiki, as a few months ago we added the Google search engine. As JSO said, "Typos and spelling errors are very unpredictable, even if you try to include them all you will probably still only cover 10% of all possible spelling errors."
- "because the bureaucrats said so." How about you post about something related to that on the Scratch Forums, and say "Scratch 2.0 is only in flash because the Scratch Team said so, not because they have any good reasoning." Not exactly the most contributing thought, is it?

- I hope I don't get too lazy to reply in future...
- Paragraph 1: LOL Well, uh... maybe tastes change! xD Nah, I don't really care I guess... I change my mind every once in a while.
- Paragraph 2: Well yeah -_-
- Paragraph 3: Well duh, because that's not a wiki.
- Uh, let's just sum this up by saying that my tastes change according to how they're being influenced - if I'm sitting on my own, I'll usually pick A, while if I'm sitting with the bosses who suddenly decide to say A without any community decision, I'll think B. This brought back memories of that before, so there's my excuse in my faulty reasoning here. ;D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 03:44, 2 March 2011 (UTC) - Hai Lucario :3
- Heh heh, thanks for a throughout explaination ^^
- Oh, wait - ooh, I did agree... well, that was after the strike, but it sure looks like I did...
- You always do a good job at explaining things :3
- Sorry to be such a bother ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 03:57, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Well... Looks like I'm the only one on the side for misspelling redirects... *Sigh* :P
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 19:42, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Aren't things like Touching Colour ()? (block) and Favourite also misspelling redirects?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:41, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- No, because those aren't misspellings. Those redirects use the coolest language evar. :P
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:28, 17 March 2011 (UTC)- Um, I beg to differ. :P
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:24, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Um, I beg to differ. :P
- Whatever. It doesn't matter which one's betrar. What matters is that it's an English language, and whilst this wiki is in American English, we must accommodate for the the Brits, Canadians, and other speakers of different varieties of English.

Template for Scratch Modifications
Hey guys. I was thinking it would be cool if we could have a template for all the scratch mods like the title says. We could have it says things like
- Name
- Version Number/Release Status
- OS (Which operating systems is it compatible with)
- Their Website
- Their Forum Topic
- The main purpose for its creation.
- Developer name
- Whether or not it is open source
- What language it is written in. (I think it would have to be Squeak but i dont know XD)
- What versions of scratch its compatible with.
I might make an example one to see if people like the idea. It would be similar to the template that is available on all 'Blocks' Pages.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 06:17, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- +1
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 06:19, 6 March 2011 (UTC) - Hey, that would be quite useful! :)
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:20, 6 March 2011 (UTC) - Nice! I'll make an example soon.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:12, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
I also made a template, which can be viewed here.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 18:00, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Mine is here. It gives two filled in examples.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:02, 6 March 2011 (UTC)- Wow both of your look awesome. I think we just need all the admins to agree and we can implement this :)
Dazman (talk | contribs) 19:32, 6 March 2011 (UTC)- Or just one... Who's on? WeirdF edited recently.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:34, 6 March 2011 (UTC)- Oh... Don't feel you need all of us. I mean, we're not exactly meant to be in charge, we're just experienced editors. :P As long as the majority of the community agrees on something, then it's fine (assuming the majority of the community aren't mindless vandals - which they aren't)...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 19:38, 6 March 2011 (UTC)- One question, should we use mine or veggieman001's template?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 19:40, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Well, I'd go for veggieman001's, because it's simpler and more compact. I feel as though some of the info in yours is a bit unnecessary. However both are extremely good! :)
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 20:08, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Is Template:Scratch Mod fine?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 20:14, 6 March 2011 (UTC)- Dazman, this wiki isn't a dictatorship - we're just normal editors like you :)
- I think I prefer Veggieman's template; it's more compact and looks a bit neater. Don't feel bad scimonster, yours was good too :)
- And that template thingy you linked to, Veggie - as I don't really know much wiki/HTML code stuff, I can't understand it. Therefore, I can't say if it's fine or not ^^ Sorry ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:17, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
On a related note, should we add to the forums too?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 15:07, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Eh, I don't think there's really anything to make a template of for them... :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:20, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Symbols
What are all the symbols in the template on the bottom of every edit page?
~ | ¡ ¿ † ‡ ↔ ↑ ↓ • ¶ # ¹ ¹ ² ³ ½ ⅓ ⅔ ¼ ¾ ⅛ ⅜ ⅝ ⅞ ∞ ‘ “ ” ’ « ¤ ₳ ฿ ₵ ¢ ₡ ₢ $ ₫ ₯ € ₠ ₣ ƒ ₴ ₭ ₤ ℳ ₥ ₦ № ₧ ₰ £ ៛ ₨ ₪ ৳ ₮ ₩ ¥ ♠ ♣ ♥ ♦ »
Don't remove them, who knows when I'll need the shekel sign (₪).
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:12, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's just a think that comes with wikis... The maths symbols are for wikis that involve maths, and the others are for... I dunno... Wikis that involve strange symbols... Or something... :P
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 19:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC) - Uh... well... those look like symbols for math articles and such :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:22, 8 March 2011 (UTC)- Uh, math? ₪ ₤♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

Well, Palestinian currency must be useful somewhere, like in the Palestine Wiki! And the others must have some use...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 18:11, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Wow... theres a wiki on Palestine XD. It only has 5 pages :O.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 18:14, 8 March 2011 (UTC) - I suppose they would have a use for Israeli currency symbols there.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:31, 8 March 2011 (UTC)- Imagine finding a way to incorporate all those symbols into this wiki :D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 01:15, 9 March 2011 (UTC)- Doubt it would be possible XD.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 02:02, 9 March 2011 (UTC)- Some will, some won't. Scimonster already implemented some into the BYOB article.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 02:42, 9 March 2011 (UTC)- Which? The ◄► aren't from that template. :/
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:57, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Page needs fixing!!!
Well, if you go to "Scratch Website General" from the front page of the Wiki, you will see that the links go off the bottom of the border. O.O
Can someone fix it?

Anyone Wanna Teach Me About Templates
Hey I've kinda been editing on the wiki for a little while now and yet i still don't understand how you guys create templates for user boxes and and the ones that you put on the Scratch Mods. Anyone wanna explain cause I looked at some of the ones we have and i'm not really sure if your defining locations and variables or what so yeah...
Dazman (talk | contribs) 05:17, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, templates are pieces of code that are put into a page to save us work - instead of typing the same code over and over, we put the code into a template and use the template instead. Also, if we want to edit the code, we only have to edit the template; otherwise we'd have to go through all the necessary articles and edit the same thing in them each time.
- I hope you understood :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:46, 10 March 2011 (UTC) - If you want to know how to make a template, don't worry - just find something close to what you want and edit it (that's what I do). :P

Patrol
Special:Log/patrol What does it mean? Why is my talk page being patrolled? Any time an admin edited...
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 09:30, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oh yeah... When an edit has been made by a non-admin, it is an 'unpatrolled' edit. So either by editing it further or going on to the page and clicking "mark this page as patrolled" it becomes a 'patrolled' edit. This is just to let the other admins know that no vandalism has been made... We don't really use it though, except when it does it automatically through editing...

The system. Was down.
Why was the wiki down?
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 21:48, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know... :/ Yeah, it wasn't working for me either... same with Chris and WeirdF. :S
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:09, 12 March 2011 (UTC)- I spoke to JSO about it, and JSO didn't know how to fix it... So he spoke to Andres about it, and Andres made everything better! But as for the reason as to why the site was down, I have no clue. It said it was something to do with connection errors when I tried to get onto the wiki...

Error
I found this in my RSS feed of recent changes.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 12:30, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
- Did you read the error? Its likely cause by an outdated link.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 18:25, 13 March 2011 (UTC)- Yes, it said to report it to an administrator. But why was it there anyways?

Scimonster (talk | contribs) 13:32, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- Erm... It might be something important, you never know with these things...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 20:24, 14 March 2011 (UTC) - That was an old file that I thought had been deleted... but it still exists :O
- Eh, all that page contains is merely a category... it's useless, deleting :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:37, 15 March 2011 (UTC)- Should the talk page be deleted too?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:35, 17 March 2011 (UTC)- Ooh, I didn't see that - deleted ^^

Customizable Edit Box
Yes, a suggestion. I would like to be able to customize the Edittools to my preferences.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:37, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Why do you need to change that? Its pretty complete.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 22:47, 17 March 2011 (UTC) - Oh, you use the Edittools thingy? I've actually forgotten that it exists :P
- I think customizing it would be a bit hard to implement... :S
- If there are any symbols you want added to the Edittools, just post them :D I think it has everything necessary though...
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:13, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- OK. I want ==+==, ===+===, remove {{Reflist}}. Also, I'd like some stuff that I use alot, but not others necessarily. Such as #REDIRECT [[+]] [[Category:Redirects]]. For the Scratch FAQ I really wanted ;<big>+</big>.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 05:36, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- Now that I see your suggestions, I think that Scimonster is right. We have a lot that we almost never use and we don't have ones that are common.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 06:01, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- Well it can be done if necessary... If everybody made a list of everything that they wanted, then they could be added...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 06:44, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- I wouldn't need ;<big>+</big> now, but like I said, then it would have been very useful. I was actually think of doing a sub-page with the template!

New suggestion about this: Have it a sub-page for each user that wants it customized! So, mine would be MediaWiki:Edittools/Scimonster! What do you think of that?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 06:54, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- THAT WOULD BE AWESOME IF WE COULD DO THAT. But wouldn't it be hard to make each person have their own tools in that way?
Dazman (talk | contribs) 07:02, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- Not if it wasn't protected. :)
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 07:05, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- Sounds cool :D
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 08:14, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- Now it needs to be unprotected. :/ Is that allowed?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 08:20, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- I believe that it's physically impossible to unprotect MediaWiki namespace pages.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 14:22, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- I'm pretty sure that bureaucrats can edit those pages. Then we can copy and paste the source and edit it.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 14:29, 18 March 2011 (UTC)- If they are subpages, we still won't be able to edit them because they'd be in the same namespace.

Okay... I'm pretty sure everybody having customizable edit pages can't be done. And we can't make the page unprotected, but admins can edit it...
WeirdF (talk | contribs) 20:01, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Um... so - scimonster, you want ==+== and ===+=== added? It might sound silly, but what do they do? ^^
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:21, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Hey guys :-). Yeah, there's not really any way to customize it to your exact needs, however if there's consensus between you guys on certain features to add, then feel free to do so! However make sure they're not already there of course (:P), and that they're not on the edit bar on the top. For example by clicking the "#R" button, you can already add a redirect. As well as level two headlines ;).
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 18:58, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
I still want to know if we can do the customizable sub-pages. Is it possible - not allowed - to unprotect that namespace?
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 14:33, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- it is completely impossible, as i said before. and to make it actually appear for each user would require a bureaucrat or something to edit the php code, i believe.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:05, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- though, in theory, the edittools could be customised by each user by using their scratch.css or scratch.js subpages.
Veggieman001 (talk | contribs) 17:12, 23 March 2011 (UTC)- :D
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 17:14, 23 March 2011 (UTC)- i don't know how to do that, though :[ any css/javascript programmers want to figure this out?

Hey Guys. You know the bar at the top of the Scratch Website? It Says "Home Projects Galleries Support Forums About my sutff." Why isn't Wiki on there? Also, I was thinking we should make a Scratch Wiki Collab Team or RPG. I think that would be cool.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 04:17, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think the Scratch Wiki is important enough to be up there :P It's already mentioned in Support, anyway... oh, and it's on the front page :D
- Uh, a collab thingy would be cool, but I'm already in two collabs :S
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 04:19, 19 March 2011 (UTC)- Still, if you think about it, How many people actually read the manual for anything! So if people need help, they are unlikely to goto support and more likely the forums to ask. Also the link on the front page is just a tiny box in the bottom right hand corner. Technically speaking, that box is an advertisement. I didn't find out about the wiki from that little box because I never saw it. I found it by searching Google to see if one existed. So it should be more noticeable. The best way would be to add it to the nav bar.
Dazman (talk | contribs) 17:18, 20 March 2011 (UTC)- I found it from that little box, but yeah, I'd like it on the navbar.
Scimonster (talk | contribs) 18:02, 20 March 2011 (UTC)- Yeah, I suppose it would be useful... :S
- Uh... sadly, there isn't any space to put Wiki in... yeah, there is space in some spots, but on places like the front page where there's a language option, there isn't. :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:50, 21 March 2011 (UTC)- If the ST redid the whole site and made it wider, there would be. :/ :D

- Just because the wiki is part of the support. And people are actually much more likely to check the support page than the forums: while it might not seem so, only a very small subset of the Scratch community uses the forums.
