scmb1 (talk | contribs)- Me three! :O And so I don't have to create a new discussion that's sort of related, look at the block articles - is it just me, or are the pictures of blocks in the 'profile' gone? For me, it's just a box. :/

Who takes decisions?
I've seen there has been quite some discussion about who's taking decisions on this wiki. Yes, we want the wiki to be a democratic place. Every voice counts.
Lucario621 and I have had a lot of conversations with the Scratch team, while the wiki was being moved over from wikia, but also now. We agreed with them about what the goals for this wiki are, and how things should work over here. We tried to keep the original wiki's goals, but broaden them to allow a wider variety of topics (e.g., not only strictly information about Scratch but also tutorials, guides etc...) and make it fit slightly better to the main Scratch Site.
You should trust that when Lucario621, me or a Scratch Team member like Andrés says something, all we're trying to do is keeping the wiki 'on track', we want the wiki to become better and better just like you guys.
The recent discussion about Navigation bars on user pages is a perfect example. It would certainly be nice to have them, and I think Lucario agrees with that. However, you should not forget that in order to have them, I have to spend hours of time trying to figure out how I could do it, then actually get on development, then release it, then do some testing, ... You should see what matters most. After all, navigation bars on user pages only help the few of us that are wiki editors, and even then once could just add it manually like I did. Wouldn't that development time be better spent on making the wiki easier to navigate for the 650,000 scratchers out there?
Lucario's 'veto' was correct imo, he just should have supploed some clarification. That argumentation is something we've been discussing so much, that it becomes obvious for us but it is probably not for you.

- Sorry... you guys are the best at making me feel ashamed of myself. xD My excuses/blame/whatever: 1. I get fed up when there's no actual "okay, everyone share your opinion" and we get a "no, I disagree, all cancelled". 2. I didn't say I wanted that bar thing, I just didn't like the way it was "I don't like it, so it's no happening" In that case it was when Lucario said "I'm going to have to say no, because ..." - that was just his opinion, right? I agreed with it, but still.
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 23:51, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
- No need to feel ashamed of yourself at all. imo, there is no real leader over here, everyone just has it's own job. For example, I sort of assigned myself the power to veto (or "postulo" - google it) when it comes to changes to the wiki software we use, because that's "my job". I guess you noticed that with the new search engine :p lol. (about that search, I wouldn't keep it if I hadn't discussed it with the scratch team) Apparently you and Jon just love categorization so noone will stop you :) For mor general matters, we just have to come to an agreement. Yes, Lucario, you shouldn't have said it that way :p

- From my perspective, most everybody's opinion was already given, and I thought there weren't any more points to make. I apologize - I try to give room for feedback whenever I can. However, what I was saying there *wasn't really an opinion*. I was saying it just as a Scratch Team member would. I was trying to think of how to word this in the best way possible, so I thought of how the Scratch Team would do it; but they usually don't even post on suggestions too often, because they don't want to hurt other's opinions, especially when the Scratchers have a strong stance on a topic. How could I better improve my message?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 00:11, 3 November 2010 (UTC)- Um... make it sound like just your opinion instead of an official decision if the idea would go forward or not? :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 00:15, 3 November 2010 (UTC) - By saying "I disagree because _______," and keeping it clear that the discussion is still open to everyone's opinion, rather than "I'm going to have to say no, because _______," which dictates that you disagree and you're stomping the discussion flat, ending it.

- I'll just say what I feel...
- Lucario seems to be a sort of leader - he seems to be able to override decisions and overall control things. For example, we had to get permission from him to work on the help pages... he did say that he would be the one to work on it, but actually making us get permission from him seems a bit much. And there's also that thing about the toolbar - he seemed to be able to just stop it. :O It seems that his opinion is worth more than ours - but surely everyone's opinion is equal here? :3 (Well, not the Scratch Team :P)

- Well, I've always thought of him like that because it was him that contacted the Scratch Team for moving the wiki and then the ST contacted me to help Lucario. That's just my point of view so if you all think Lucario isn't a leader at all, then so be it.
- It seems that his opinion is worth more than ours - but surely everyone's opinion is equal here? :3 (Well, not the Scratch Team :P)
- It's weird that you say 'not the Scratch team :p'. Because all Lucario was doing, was disagreeing with the suggestion because it didn't fit in the goals we agreed with the Scratch Team. (no offense to you Dazman). If you want, I can try to find all conversations we had with the Andrés/Other ST Members and make them public in order to keep things transparent. I'll see what's relevant.
JSO (talk | contribs) 15:05, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah I agree with Johnathan and Chrischb. Sorry if I may have seemed "defiant" or whatever else. Like JSO said, I just felt like my decision did not have a legitimate reason to be simply vetoed. I guess I sorta felt like Lucario didn't care. Thanks for your explanation. Oh and I read the new FAQ so I guess we have everything set and done now :)
Dazman (talk | contribs) 02:22, 3 November 2010 (UTC) - Well, Lucario's explained everything - look at the recent edits in the FAQ - so there's no point in arguing.

Adding a TOC to the Community Portal discussion area
It would make finding discussions faster... :P And it's a fast way of seeing what's there to discuss.

Grammar in "In the News..."
I've noticed some grammatical mistakes in the Current Events. Since I can't edit those, I'll whine here. :P (Note: Since I'm writing about grammar, I'm bound to make a grammatical mistake. Sorry in advance. :P)
October 27, 2010 - New Scratch Design Studio - Halloween 2010! The Scratch Team has released a new Scratch Design Studio, in which its description states: Make a spooky project for Halloween!
I'm pretty sure that's breaking some sort of rule, but I'm not entirely sure what... Either way, it sounds really wordy and doesn't really make sense. Maybe you could change it to something like "The Scratch Team has released a new Scratch Design Studio with the description:"
October 22, 2010 - Fall 2010 Community Moderator Election Results! The results of the election have been announced, fullmoon and demosthenes have won. Feel free to congratulate them on this thread.
That's not a sentence. Actually, it's 2 sentences smushed together. Try "The results of the election have been announced and fullmoon and demosthenes have won." or "The results of the election have been announced. fullmoon and demosthenes have won." or maybe "The results of the election have been announced: fullmoon and demosthenes have won."
That's all I caught. I don't mean to sound rude-- I just want to make sure the front page is nice and pretty. Thanks to the people who update it!

- Good grammatical catches there, scmb1! :)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 21:03, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe we should generally try to post in simpler sentences. This wiki is read by adult teachers but also young Scratchers and we don't want them to go away thinking "wut I don't understand this" :p

RPG's
Hey can someone explain to me what an RPG is? Like the ones you see in galleries and on forums. How do they work and what do you do? I cant figure it out myself :(
Dazman (talk | contribs) 07:20, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
- RPG stands for Role-Playing Game. The ones you see in galleries and the TBG are where you control a character and interact with others in the RPG's world. For example, in Flag RPG, I RPG by controlling my character and do stuff around Flagland. There are other people with their characters that I can interact with, and there are often 'quests' that we do.
- RPGs are allowed to have an article here if they involve more than one person and there has been at least one project created about it.
- Oh - the Community Portal is for Scratch Wiki-related stuff. For other things, try asking in the Scratch Forums. :)
- Any questions?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 07:58, 4 November 2010 (UTC) - Did you read the Role_Playing_Game article? Was it not clear? This is the type of question that the Role_Playing_Game should answer. Please someone improve the article if need be.

16Skittles's account
I approved it and was about to create the account when I realized: His/her username is 16Skittles, but the submission was 16skittles. Should I create the account with an upper-or-lowercase s? (Yes, I saved the password so we can use it in the future. ;))
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 05:12, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Help please! :3
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 23:56, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- I personally think creating another account isn't needed, so having keeping it as lowercase will be fine. It shouldn't make much of a difference :)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 00:50, 6 November 2010 (UTC)- No, I didn't create any accounts for 16Skittles yet. But shouldn't I capitalize the S for his/her account? That's what the Scratch account is. :/
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 03:03, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

- @Andresmh: I am working on a Table of Contents to help... which is viewable here. And yes guys I *am* working on it so please do not disturb it, unless there's like some kind of typo. Suggestions can be added on the community portal.
- Another thing you guys could do is add references to articles. It's a handy thing to have. What this means is, after a sentence that has a certain fact, you add "
<ref>URL (text)</ref>
" right after it (probably after the period, but doesn't matter too much). The URL would be a link to external proof (not on the Scratch Wiki) from a reliable source (usually the Scratch Website, including help pages or forum discussions), that gives proof for that fact in the article. If it's a certain post, or there's extra explanation, you can add some short text. Then, at the end of the article, (but before "extrnal links" if there is one and before any templates/categorizing), then if there isn't any references section, than add it. Make a section called "References" and add a<references/>
tag right below it. There it will show the reference.

- Wikipedia does have many more advanced tools and recommendations for citing sources, but for the Scratch Wiki, in it's current stage where citing isn't a *huge* issue, I wouldn't worry about it.

- Definitely. I mean if it's simple like saying that the Move () Steps block is blue, obviously you don't need to mention that... but if it's something more recent perhaps, or questionable, sources do help.

- For now guys, I do not want any help with the Table of Contents me and JSO are working on. I'm glad to hear you want to work on it, but it's important. It's not like the help pages in which you can just copy the stuff. Yesterday I specifically gave Chrischb and Jonathanpb a request to finish a certain list of pages for me based on a guide. Apart than that there should be nobody editing the pages, unless it's some type of spelling error or something. Suggestions can be given on the CP (community portal) though ;)

Well, I looked through the source code, but as far as I can see there's no problems there, so it's probably something to do with HTML conflicting with the wiki's source code, and JSO is the only one who can deal with that...
