What are user talk pages for?
Kpoovakan, Wiki Editor and Scratcher. Learn more about me at https://scratch.mit.edu/users/kpoovakan/ or at
Kpoovakan (talk | contribs) 00:59, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
- 1. User talk pages are used for sending a message to a specific user.
2. Why is your signature so long? It breaks off ito 3 lines, and the custom signature guidelines say that custom signatures should only occupy one line.
2tables (talk | contribs) 01:19, 23 June 2023 (UTC)- Their signature is just the normal scratchsig, they've just written stuff in front of it.

Why is there a rule that you cannot create any of the subsections of the main page as AF subpages?

I don't see why this should be a rule...

- All corresponding subsections are on the joke home page itself; the rule against creating the subpages is likely to keep them in one place.

How can I have a different username on the Scratch Wiki?
Resolved (since 22:08, 17 July 2023 (UTC)) |
---|
I've been referring to myself as BobRocks20 since 2020 and while I know you can't change your username on the Scratch website (with some exceptions), I want to have my current wiki username changed to reflect my preferred username. I know one wiki editor whose username in the wiki is different from his Scratch username and his name is Jammum so I guess that means its possible to do that. If so, how?
Cutebross260IsBack (talk | contribs) 21:26, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- As far as I know, it's not possible unless your Scratch account username was changed (this happened to me). Afterwards, an admin will change your Wiki account name. The Wiki admins don't change usernames for request or for personal preference. Jammum's Scratch username differs from his Wiki one because he originally requested an account on his @Jammum Scratch account, however later moved to his current one @SausageMcSauce. So he never really had a username change; he just moved accounts.

Scratch wiki is extremely slow right now
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |

Currently the wiki is extremely slow. It is taking a long time to load pages (sometimes 5 seconds or more). Recent changes is taking 20 seconds. The parser profiling data for this page shows a CPU time of .444s and a Real time usage of 5.32 seconds.
Ideapad-320 | Talk | Contribs | Scratch 00:57, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- I think the problem was on your end, because the pages were loading fine yesterday for me.
Vdiu | Talk | Contributions | Scratch Profile 05:31, 20 August 2023 (UTC) - In the future plase report this on Scratch Wiki talk:Community Portal/Logging server faults instead of the full CP. But also sometimes the Wiki is just under heavy load for whatever reason and it's usually a good idea to wait a while before trying to make further requests.
- That being said, parser profiling showing 5 seconds is concerning. I'll bring it up but I doubt there's anything we can do without a repro case.
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 06:07, 20 August 2023 (UTC)- I think it was caused by a browser extention. (note: i noticed this over a month ago)

- Unless the FPC schedule has changed, DragonCatSloth only began their shift on September 4, three days ago. Were they unable to complete their shift?
- Anyway, per my recollection, WikiMonitor checks the current curator daily. It should update at some point soon.

An explanation of today's downtime

Hi everyone,
Over the past 90 minutes or so, the Wiki has been intermittently down. This was caused by me finally implementing a solution to the performance problems we've had the past few weeks. Basically, I found a bunch of outdated server software (PHP version and a number of PHP extensions) and updated it to newer versions. In the process, this completely erased everything we have in the cache, especially the localization cache. Running the Wiki with absolutely nothing in the cache is an extremely computationally expensive thing to do, and basically our server couldn't handle the load. This started to resolve itself on its own as cache entries started to get populated, but was going to take a long time before we were fully back up and running as normal. To avoid prolonging the problem, I took down the English Wiki, which has by far the highest traffic, while rebuilding the localization cache for all of the Wikis; if I did not do this, the server would not have been able to run the script to rebuild it under the load. We should be good going forwards and the Wiki does seem to be performing much better now. If any issues come up, please post them here, or if the Wiki is unavailable, on our Wiki forum topic.
Thank you everyone for your understanding, and apologies for the disruption.

Hi everyone,
As part of the effort to avoid the 508 errors we've intermittently been getting, we have had to disable Recent Changes for now. Recent Changes is extremely resource intensive and my suspicion is that there is something that needs to be optimized with it that isn't currently optimized. We will look into this further and hopefully get it available to everyone again soon. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Hopefully final report on the 508s
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
Hi everyone,
I have what is hopefully the final report on the 508 errors we have been dealing with over the past month or so. There were two main causes, and I will cover each one.
The first and less important cause was Recent Changes. Recent Changes was using very high amounts of CPU and RAM and multiple loading this at once could slow down the server. The stop-gap solution was to block it, but in the meantime we have implemented some optimizations to improve its performance and it is usable again. From my personal experience it now loads much faster. The one caveat is there are now lower limits on how far you can go back in time in order to avoid excessively large queries.
The second and more important reason was a surge in traffic from Bytespider. I set up a bunch of diagnostic tools to help track down slow scripts and spikes in traffic, and after the most recent 508s started popping up, I promptly looked at the server logs for suspicious traffic. I saw a large number of requests with a "Bytespider" User-Agent, which were sprinkled throughout the log but formed an increasingly large portion of the requests leading to nearly 100% of them at the time the 508s started. After doing some research on the topic, I learned that Bytespider is a web crawler made and operated by Bytedance, the company that makes the social media app TikTok. Web crawlers are programs that automatically look around the internet and find content for various purposes, most often search indexing (for example, Google has a crawler that indexes all the sites it finds periodically to keep their search indices up to date). However, unlike a lot of other crawlers out there, Bytespider does not respect robots.txt (which establishes rules regarding what web crawlers can do) and does not have rate limiting to avoid overwhelming sites. As a result, we were absolutely bombarded with them and it overwhelmed the server. All of the information I could find about them online recommended blocking them, so that is what we did. Within minutes of doing that, the 508s stopped and have not come up again. We are also looking into other mitigation strategies to avoid similar problems from popping up in the future.
Thank you everyone for your patience and apologies for the downtime. Please let me know if there are any further issues.

- Thank you very much for your efforts, jvvg. I admire your work and your high commitment with which you have found the solution.!

Dahipuri (talk | contribs) 13:33, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that it's really necessary to make a page on Scratch 3.0's fullscreen. The reason the presentation mode article exists is because of the minor differences that can be found between them (and even then the article's quite short). As far as I'm aware, there's no difference between the editor's Stage and fullscreen mode, aside from a couple of minor graphical differences.

Kleemiya_the_furball (talk | contribs) 14:19, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Well, the definiton of 'goodpage' is different from Scratcher to Scratcher, so the first thing to do is define 'good userpage' You might wish to start looking at other's userpage (not mines! I feel ok with that temporary page). Then, you can try to get the thing you like to your page. Remember to have fun while doing so! You may also want to some templates or font!
Purin2022 (talk | contribs) 10:21, 28 October 2023 (UTC)- "Good" is highly subjective, but if you want good tips, start by describing yourself, use headers to seperate the page into sections, add images that you like (projects or art you made) and make use of other formatting techniques to add flair to the page. Check out other users to get inspiration (but not mine)

How do people get images with the profile name 'Scratcher', like on the right?
I mean, I know that you can use F12 to open the inspection page and change the name, but it does not make sense that people use this on Scratch Wiki...
Purin2022 (talk | contribs) 14:39, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- I think you answered your own question. People are using the inspector to change it. The reason would be to make the image more generic and avoid drawing attention to a specific user. There isn't a rule specifically requiring it, but some users do it.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 21:19, 25 October 2023 (UTC)- You can also use Inspect Element [in the right click menu] to edit the page [this method is easier that F12]. People normally make it generic so that the username in the image does not draw attention. However, we do have a few images with a non-generic usernames [the reason is sometimes that the page screenshotted does not exist or is not accesible anymore].

Basically, we have a category for pages that have requested a merge, but we should probably have a category for pages that need to be merged. This would make it much easier to find the pages that need to be merged. It would tell if a page needed to be merged by if it's merge template had the third thing filled in (see merge template's page).

Purin2022 (talk | contribs) 19:02, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think a page is needed just to explain this mass-deletion; I think it just need to be mentioned here.
- To sum up, I have been mass-deleting fair use images from April Fools' Day pages; because those images are not being used educationally on the April Fools' Day pages, I have decided to delete many of them and explicitly mention in AF rules that they cannot go in AF pages.
- I have mentioned this with other EW+ users off-wiki that I intend to mass-delete those images; there had been an unwritten, but rarely enforced, rule before then that about fair use images and AF pages.
- I have removed a few image dead links to those files and uploaded new versions of some files that are free but with similar content; I intend to remove or replace many of the dead links eventually.

The error normally happens when you make another edit to any Mediawiki- supported wiki and then try to save edits on a different tab. It also happens if you don't submit edits for a long time, as mentioned by @Scratchgodo. If it is neither of the cases above, it probably means that you are submitting another kind of data at the same time. Normally when this happens, I just press save page again and it goes through.

Dark mode page preview bug
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
So I found this out but when viewing a page preview in dark mode, the background of the preview stays white, while the text changes from black to white, making the text really low contrast. I think this could be solved by either forcing the text to be black, or making the background of the page preview dark.
ninjahanzo ( Talk | Contribs | Scratch ) 02:28, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- This isn't the only UI element like this, most of them still have the light gray text while changing the background to white (the edit header when visual editing, the error message when an image couldn't be uploaded, the pop-up menu for editing equations, etc.)

A category/page for unfinished wiki-projects
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
I feel like the wiki-projects aren't getting enough attention. I propose to create a page/category (or at least a CP post) for those wiki-projects (there aren't that many). Here are a list of unfinished projects I found (use Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:SWP):
Index | Name | Purpose | Started on |
---|---|---|---|
SWP-002 | Create other language tutorials | Create tutorials comparing other programming languages with Scratch. | 25/8/2018 |
SWP-003 | Scratch Wiki Adventure | Create the Scratch Wiki Adventure "game" to help teach new Wikians the basics of the Scratch Wiki in a fun, interactive setting. | 11/21/2019 |
SWP-004 | Account Request Feedback | Create and maintain a page for new users to provide feedback on the account request system. | 8/9/2020 |
SWP-005 | Tip of the Day | Create a panel that will show one tip for each day of the year. | 8/22/2020 |
As you can see, all these projects are pretty old, and they are pretty unknown. Should we make a page for these projects?
Purin2022 | 💬Talk | 📝Contribs | 🐱Scratch 19:34, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- Category:Scratch Wiki Projects already exists to categorise unfinished SWPs, with completed ones put in a separate sub-category, so I think it could be mentioned at the top of the CP as well (although Not Done is virtually abandoned and linked at the top of the CP as well, so it may not make a huge difference).

Too much spam on the wiki forum
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |

The amount of blockspam on the topic is crazy. I think a whole page went down to just 3-4 posts after the ST removed it. Is there any prevention measures?
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 12:50, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- I think a possible way to do this is to make the warning about unconstructive posts more eye-catching or visible (I think a lot of it on the forums is because of users skimming over posts instructions, which is probably very common elsewhere on the internet).
- I have posted about this in the community portal before, in this topic currently in Not Done, although the possible remedies for spam I listed there are probably different than ones discussed in this topic.
Jammum (💬 Talk - ✍️ Contribs) 16:20, 14 December 2023 (UTC)- Unfortunately spam on the forums is very common all over the place, and our topic just happens to get more of it due to being a sticky. The only real countermeasure is to report it as soon as you see it and not respond to it (as that only attracts more attention).

Echo extension is coming soon
Hi everyone,
Thanks largely to the help of Mrsrec for retrofitting our skin to show notifications properly, we are pleased to announce that fairly soon we will have the Echo extension available. This extension will allow users to mention each other in talk pages and receive notifications for it. This will be very helpful when replying to talk page messages for users who aren't constantly checking Recent Changes. We don't have an exact date yet, but hopefully it will be within the next week or so.
At least at the start this will only be implemented on the English Wiki, but if it goes well here, we will consider installing this on the other Wikis.
Please reply with any questions, and we will let everyone know of further updates and when this is ready to go.
jvvg (talk | contribs) 02:35, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- What do you mean by notification? A pop-up message that shows when you got a new message in your userpage, or else? Also, wouldn't the feature cause abuse? (like a new user can literally mention 50 users every 3 minute)
Purin2022 | 💬Talk | 📝Contribs | 🐱Scratch 20:09, 15 December 2023 (UTC)- We will have a notifications icon similar to the main Scratch site, and that will lead to a list of notifications. Abuse of the feature is against the rules and we will take appropriate action against anyone who does so.

We should have a filter for user-talk in the recent changes section
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
Lately I've been noticing that usually recent-changes is full of changes to user-talk pages, and it kind of crowds out other things. So, I think we should have a filter option for them which would be enabled by default like the human-only filter. If you have any ideas for this please reply below.
MagicCoder330 (talk | contribs) 18:26, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- You can already filter based on namespace, and that allows filtering out user talk pages if you want. I don't think we should enable this by default since there are some users (including myself) who want to be aware of user talk page conversations however.

Every time I visit this page, it resizes to about 70% the width of my screen. It doesn't seem like any other pages do this, and it also doesn't happen when I use the default Scratch Wiki theme (I'm using "Vector (2022)".
Stegie1234 (talk | contribs) 00:03, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- Can't reproduce. All pages are the same width (
60em
, or as you say about 70% of my screen) when I switch to Vector 2022. It doesn't happen on ScratchWikiSkin2 since that's a completely separate set of styling.

Notifications
Hello Scratchers,
There is now a notification system on the wiki that you can use to get notified whenever certain things happen on the wiki, similar to Scratch!
I worked hard to add this feature to the wiki, and Jvvg and Kenny2scratch gave important feedback and updates about code.
You can check your notifications by clicking the brand-new envelope icon in the top right. Edit your notification settings in your preferences to get notifications about certain things by default, like when someone else reverts your edit, when someone links to a page you made, and when you reach editing milestones.
But the most important new feature is mentioning. Now, instead of having to write talk-back notices, you can simply tag another user on a discussion, and they'll get a notification. To do this, just write
like so.
@Jvvg How is the weather today?
These are brand new and I have never written major code for the wiki before so if something breaks I'm sorry! More experienced people will also be helping and solving any issues.
Scratch on!

Additional info — I have tested this in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and I found this bug in all 3 browsers. Because the pencil menu only exists SWS2, this bug only applies to SWS2.
Purin2022 (talk | contribs) 20:46, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Purin2022 Huh weird... same for me and I'm on Edge. Might be because once you click, I guess it just forgets to unclick it? I have no clue . (side note: this website is slower than a dead turtle)
Gatgatcode ( Talk | Scratch | Contributions ) 02:58, 1 January 2024 (UTC)- Thanks for the report. I've reproduced this on my own test instance and opened a GitHub issue and corresponding PR to fix it. With luck this should be fixed by tomorrow.
- In case you're curious, the issue was that the code assumes all links in the navbar open dropdowns, so when you mouse over from one dropdown link to another it clicks the latter for you and closes the former. The assumption was correct before the messages icon was added, but now erroneously clicks it for you when mousing over from the pencil dropdown.

A Second Notfication Bug - Custom Signatures don't Ping People
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
Sorry admins, that's quite a lot of bugs...
<scratchsig>
can successfully ping people and send a notification. Custom signatures don't.
Status: Resolved
Note: | The names of the custom signature pages are examples, but you can probably know why this bug is happening. |
I believe the reason for this bug is that custom signatures are, in the end, just
. S:GOODSIG basically states to set the new signautre setting to be something like
, whose content is
.
In this example, when they sign with~~~~
, it would be substituted with
.
S:MENTION states:
“ | If you use a custom signature, you must ensure that your signature contains either a <scratchsig> tag with your name, or a wiki-link to your user page, your talk page, or your contributions. If your signature does not have any of these, no notifications will be delivered.
|
” |
– S:MENTION, more emphasis added |
So, literally, the wikitext
technically doesn't contain a link to a user's userpage (it's a transclusion), talk page, or contribs, even if the content of the real sig contains them. Therefore, no notifcation would be sent.
Hypothesis — I'm using a custom signature here. If I include a link to my userpage in this post, would this send a notification?
@Kenny2scratch, jvvg, Mrsrec — Please let me know if I have pinged you.
Purin2022 | 💬Talk | 📝Contribs | 🐱Scratch 12:01, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, there seems to have been some confusion. We thought Echo did expand templates to find userpage links - it turns out that's only true for determining ping targets, not sources. This will need quite a bit more time and a second hack (the fact that
<scratchsig>
works is also because of a hack; Echo does not support it natively).
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 01:42, 3 January 2024 (UTC)- Seems like "quite a bit more time" was a lie. I've implemented a second hack: anything that matches
this regex(see below) should also count as a signature. @Purin2022 does this ping you?
kenny2scratch Talk Contribs Directory 02:13, 3 January 2024 (UTC)- Okay, while that should have succeeded, I realized that the regex above doesn't account for things like "Real Signature" and have updated it accordingly.

Ilovestories (talk | contribs) 16:00, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. (In fact, there are a LOT of shortcuts on the wiki) For contribs pages, they are
Special:Contributions/YOURUSERNAMEHERE
In your username case that would be Special:Contributions/Ilovestories. It is slightly more difficult for talkpages, as they have different Namespaces. Basically, if you are trying to link user talk pages, you can find them atUser Talk:YOURUSERNAMEHERE
. In your case that would be User Talk:Ilovestories. For other talkspaces (other types of talk pages corrsponding to other namespaces), find the page you want to link the talkpage, click on the pencil on the navbar -> discussion, copy the title of the page at the top of the page, but below the navbar, and surround it withPASTE YOUR TITLE HERE
.*
- *: You could also link to normal pages (ie. pages where you put contents in), by copying the title of the normal pages. Yes, it's confusing, I know.

- @Co0lcr34t10ns — The template that is usually being used for this purpose (for quotes) is . The template has the shortcut of cp. However, it is also acceptable to just link the source in

Can someone delete this page

I have marked Delta Time with delete. Unless someone objects, could an EW or Mod delete this?

- The admins will usually delete something marked delete within 1 to 3 days even if you don't directly ask them to. Also, there's a special subpage of this page at Scratch Wiki talk:Community Portal/Admin Requests specifically for Admin Requests.

I'm just so scared of editing articles!
Resolved (since 10:51, 11 February 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
Hello,
This is me, Mewingcat456. I am scared of creating and editing articles. Maybe someone would edit it in a way I don't like it, and it could start a Flame War or even worse! Can you help me not become scared? Reply on my profile, thanks!
Mewingcat456 (talk | contribs) 05:53, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Mewingcat456 — Rest assured, flame wars will not happen. One reason it wouldn't happen is that 99% of the editors are very, very kind! Just like in the main site, people won't just start a flame war for just one action (they would got banned before you created your accounts if they do). Also, 'Bold, Revert, Discuss' exists on the wiki, which states that if one makes a bold edit and another reverts it, discuss the change rather then reverting it again. In your case, if Editor A makes an bold edit you don't like and you reverted it, Editor A is required to discuss the edit on the page's talk page rather then restoring their edit, which can lead to Flame Wars, which is prevented from the rule.
- PS: I can't post this in the main site because appearently Scratch thinks that this has private information in it, which I don't think it has. Also, I've marked this topic as resolved for now. If you don't think it is, change the 10:51, 11 February 2024 (UTC) to unresolved.

HTML Tutorial Useful?

Ilovestories | User | Talk | Contribs If I asked something, notify me if you respond. 19:35, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- I believe so.
RethinkingVoxels (talk | contribs) 20:25, 3 March 2024 (UTC)- @Ilovestories — Not quite — SWP-002 (the wiki-project responsible for language tutorials) has the description of "Create tutorials comparing other programming languages with Scratch." As far as I know, you can't really compare HTML with Scratch, as HTML is a markup language which is completely different from a programming language anyways.
- If you somehow figure out how to write HTML in Scratch blocks like in here, then I'd support a tutorial of HTML. However, this does not cover my views towards an HTML tutorial in other namespaces, like in the Scratch Wiki namespace.

Programmable Notifications
Resolved (since 18:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
I have a welcome template that I try to insert on every new users' page. My problem is I can't see whenever a new user is created except by vague signals (such as @jvvg posting his welcome template. I was wondering if I could customize my notifications so that I could get a notif when anyone creates a user. I was wondering if a bot account could be used for that by or some other means, but I can't program. Imagine a bot that posts on your talk page to generate notifs for things you want, almost as an alarm. Just an idea I had, would like feedback and coding help.
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 10:39, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- You can look at Special:Log/newusers periodically to see when new users are created. However, we are not going to devote development effort towards notifying people when new users are created solely for the purpose of welcoming them. Welcoming users is marginal to the main point of editing the Wiki (creating and maintaining helpful mainspace content) and users already get enough welcome templates as-is. In fact, any bot for welcoming users is already a rejected bot idea, and in my opinion what you are suggesting would be an extension of that.

Discussion of bans on the wiki
Resolved (since March 2024) |
---|
I would like to start by saying that I am not banned on Scratch, rather just curious about this subject.
So, about a year and a half ago, an admin removed my comment saying to someone else "It's sad you got banned". This seemed reasonable, and I'm not about to fight it, I think it should be banned on the wiki.
Now, I recently read a discussion on dertermenter's talk page between dertermenter and Kenny2Scratch. In his essay, dertermenter talked about details of his Scratch ban much deeper then "It's sad you got banned". The general consensus made by Kenny2Scratch in that situation was that talking about bans is allowed on the wiki, but not details.
So that brings up a question - is talking about bans on the wiki allowed? Like, per se, if I was banned on Scratch could I update my status to say "Banned on Scratch" or something? The dertermenter conversation had a lot more than just talking about bans, but that was part of it. There were two contradicting admin actions and I am curious which one is right.
Note: I am not trying to fight with anyone on this, and hopefully I'll never be banned on Scratch and have to deal with this. I just want to make sure I know the protocol so that I can continue to help out around the wiki.
Thanks!

- The policy I have used is that discussing active bans is not allowed under any circumstances, since this often leads to a lot of drama, using the Wiki as a place to vent about them, and users trying to gain sympathy (and occasionally even trying to get other users to advocate for them on Scratch), when in reality nobody other than the banned user and the Scratch Team know what happened. Generally we allow discussing past bans provided that they are discussed respectfully since those things aren't really as big a problem.

Display Title not Working
Resolved (since 18:02, 17 March 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
Does anyone have any idea why my Display Title isn't working for my userpages? When I looked at the source of the page and pressed preview it said it was ignored - but when I removed the
and just looked at the wikitext, it was the same as the page name. So why doesn't the wiki think it is? Any help is appreciated.
han614698 talk • contribs (2,190) • profile 17:20, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- @han614698 — Display title has a setting called $wgRestrictDisplayTitle (which is true on this wiki) that "restricts display titles to titles that normalize to the same canonical database key as the real page title." In other words, in order for the template to work, the value inputted in the template must be equal to the actual page's name (case in-senstive). Or in another word, the template can only change the capitalisation of the name.
- For the why, it's basically because the principle of a wiki is that you can link a page in the displayed title.

Page Hide has incorrect info
Resolved (since 18:12, 18 April 2024 (UTC)) |

At one point in the examples section of the page Hide, it shows a script that says:
when green flag clicked say [You know how to play hide-and-seek, correct?] for (3) secs say [Well you're it! Come and find me!] for (3) secs hide go to x: (200) y: (-120) when this sprite clicked show say [You're really good at this!]
Isn't it impossible to click a hidden sprite? If it is, is there a template I can mark this with so someone else can fix the code?
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 12:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Co0lcr34t10ns In this case I don't think the script really is fixable at all and should just be removed. Otherwise, you can use Wiki Standards.

Based off of cn, I think it would be nice to make it easier to type as well as reduce the page size. I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing this so I'll just ask for permission here. (Obviously I do know how to make the template...)
han614698 talk • contribs (2,190) • profile 18:38, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- @han614698 — It does seems like a good idea (and yes, you do need community consensus), but the tiny issue is the "Why don't we make it for all [commonly used] templates?" problem. For example:
- EP for External Programs (324 transclusions)
- OF for obsolete feature (351)
- ND for not done (159)
- Even TTA for TT Archive (64)
- The thing is that dead link (114) is a bit less used compared to citation needed (308) and cite post (169)... Well, I guess we can create the shortcut(s) anyways... (PS: you can find how many times a template is transcluded here)
Purin2022 | 💬Talk | 📝Contribs | 🐱Scratch 19:50, 1 April 2024 (UTC)- Support. I like all of those, especially OF

@Purin2022 Creating EP, of, ND, TTA, dl and cp (already exists ) right now. It might take me an hour, beware, as I'll be busy.
EDIT: I can't create ND, Nd, or nd as they already exist. I have went with the capitalization of the end redirect resulting in: TTA, Dl, EP and Of. Everything is done, though! I do think that Dl looks like the letters "D" and "i" (but capital I), when it's really "D" and low "L".
han614698 talk • contribs (2,190) • profile 23:38, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- @han614698 — Aren't ND different from Nd or nd? Of course, the capitalisation don't match anymore, but I think that's still better than no redirect. With that in mind, I don't think anyone would have a problem with it, but just in case, I'll leave it to the 12th April.
- PS: This is a note that there was a topic about removing

Hi there, to anyone who is reading this. Recently, I requested a scratch wiki account and an administrator left a comment saying, "Thank you for requesting an account, and we have taken the decision to deny your request" or something along those lines. However, when I checked the status, it read "accepted." I logged in with my Scratch Wiki account and I was shown that the very same admin that had denied my request left a note saying "welcome to the scratch wiki," again something among those lines. I was very confused why I was denied and accepted at the same time, so I went to the community portal, and here I am now.
To be completely honest, I don't want be revoked of my wiki account, but I do not want to edit pages and correct grammar via an account that shouldn't have been created.

Vdiu | Talk | Contributions | Scratch Profile 06:57, 17 April 2024 (UTC)- @Vdiu Add this line to your custom js:
document.querySelector("li.logo > a").setAttribute("href", "https://en.scratch-wiki.info");

Level 1 heading

What happens if you use a level 1 heading in an article instead of a level 2 heading?
Alphabetlorefan2003 (talk | contribs) 01:30, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Alphabetlorefan2003 Level 1 headings are meant for page titles, not sections. These aren't needed, as every page already has a title. If you use a level 1 heading, and then a level 2 heading, they will appear to look the same, just the level 2 heading being slightly smaller.

han614698 talk • contribs (2,190) • profile 02:25, 16 April 2024 (UTC)- @han614698 Your heading that says "This" is actually causing all sections below it to become part of the "This" heading instead. You can see at the bottom of the Community Portal's Table of Contents, that it thinks the topics below this heading is part of this, since the topics are automatically set to have Level 2 headings.
BrilliantGamer6 (talk | contribs) 23:48, 16 April 2024 (UTC)- I don't know what compelled you to do this, or why, but I feel compelled to fix this. #BRD just in case you wanna keep it.

How does merge work?
Resolved (since 18:12, 18 April 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
There are a couple of pages I know of that have been needing a merge for a while, but I am a bit confused as to how a merge happens. I can't find a description of it anywhere, so can someone please explain it to me? Also, the page in question that requires a merge is Costume Center.
MagicCoder330 (talk | contribs) 15:54, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @MagicCoder330 Please make sure that your section headings are level 2. Merges (basically) work like this:
- Someone puts the merge template onto an article with the target article specified and people discuss this in a talk page. (usually the original article's talk page)
- Once the merge gain community consensus, someone will edit the target article and moving all of the original article's information into the new page, removing excessive information if necessary. (that is entirely upto the editor and/or the community's decision.)
- The original page gets redirected or deleted.
- Of course, this is reality and things aren't always as simple as that. However, most of the time merges happen according to this.

Fourth person in articles
Resolved (since an unknown date) |
---|
First person and second person are not allowed in Wiki articles (with exceptions). And, third person is allowed. For reference:
- First person is talking about the narrator's own self, using words like I, my, me, mine, myself, etc.
- It can also be used for groups such as we, us, our, etc.
- Second person is talking about the reader, using words like you, your, etc.
- Third person is talking about another specific person, using words like he, she, him, his, her, they, them, that, etc.
But...
- Fourth person is talking about someone, but not anybody in particular, using words like one, oneself, someone, somebody, anyone, anybody, etc.
So, my question is: Is fourth person allowed in articles?
BrilliantGamer6 (talk | contribs) 23:23, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, and it’s used a lot.
han614698 talk • contribs (2,190) • profile 23:31, 16 April 2024 (UTC) - Yes, it's allowed, though as a replacement for first/second person the passive voice is preferred - "You can do it" → "It can be done" > "One can do it".

Creating April Fools pages
Resolved (since an unknown date) |

I was thinking of creating some April Fools pages and what should I put when I do? And I'm afraid about it.

- S:AF does have some good information. You are supposed to put at at Scratch Wiki:April Fools/your page and I would check out the list of AF pages here.

How to make an example image for special statuses
Resolved (since 17:25, 7 May 2024 (UTC)) |
---|
I found some images that are blue and I want to update them, but they are based off of a teacher/student account. How would I be able to replace and document them? Is there some sort of example account I can use?
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 20:28, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Why would you update them if they weren't blue? Or is that just irrelevant to the edit(s) you want to make?
BrilliantGamer6 (talk | contribs) 00:08, 24 April 2024 (UTC)- I meant ARE blue, whups
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 12:05, 24 April 2024 (UTC)- Unless you have a student/teacher account, you'll have to go into photoshop and change the color manually.
Vdiu | Talk | Contributions | Scratch Profile 07:20, 25 April 2024 (UTC)- Oh, well, this may or may not turn out well. Wish me luck.

- Thanks for the thank you, and I wasn’t taking it personally. It’s not like you were following me around reverting every single tiny change, just the X related ones out of hundreds of my other edits. I just raised some concerns over the mass reversions, but it doesn’t really matter.

Topic/Section for the recent My Stuff issues
Resolved (since an unknown date) |
---|
I think a topic covering the recent My Stuff issues is highly important, as the bug has reached a critical status (it's delaying whole classes) and is the ST's highest priority.
Co0lcr34t10ns (talk | contribs) 10:10, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- I have already added this to the Scratch Bugs page, as shown here, and there are already many stickied forum topics, such as this one for discussing about the glitch and this one for information about the glitch.

- There is an active conversation here, it probably won't get archived till after that is done.
