Question
Is this exactly how we should ask questions? I clicked the Leave New Message button...
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 06:21, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeap! Exactly... - but it doesn't seem like your signature is working right :(
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 18:53, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
About my new Scratch Forums signature...
Me and Jonathanpb are doing the same image as you and JSO - is that okay?
Chrischb (talk | contribs)
- Wait - JSO is doing it too? Cool! :D I didn't notice :P Sure - you guys can have the same signatures :)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:15, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ha, four people are advertising the Scratch Wiki now! :D

- I'm not exactly sure how soon, but probably once we fix the extension so anonymous users can edit this page. Because it should be able to - but it isn't working I guess. In the meanwhile, you guys can keep editing ^^
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 13:23, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- I guess we can launch before that is ready. How about, now? JSOadmin 10:14, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- :O Now? That's great! :) But it'll probably happen while I'm asleep, so my signature will be outdated for some time... :P
Chrischb (talk | contribs) - That'd be great! :) I'll just change the Community Portal description - it says that this page is the only spot where anonymous users can edit. ;)

What's up with my signature?
The date and time never appears...
Chrischb (talk | contribs)
- Weird :| Are you sure you're doing 4 tildes - not 3?
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:25, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well that explains the problem. That's not what you're supposed to do. In your preferences, change your custom signature to {{SUBST:Nosubst|User:Chrischb/sig}}
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:14, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- Lol :P. I'll fix the other ones for you :)
- *blushes* Nawww.... :3

New Main Page
I was thinking about changing the main page 'style', because the current boxes, don't really match the Scratch "Style" - if you know what I mean. And being said, the Main Page is one of the most important pages on this wiki, as it's the first thing people will see, so we want it to look good. Though the question is, what should we change it to?
Well I've been working on something pretty cool at User:Lucario621/Sandbox. See what you think ;). There's many changes - so let me explain them.
- Simplifying the number of sections. We don't want users to be confused with all of the different content to read on the page, so we just want to make the main page a decent size, while packing plenty of interesting stuff to read.
- Keeping the "Contents" section. I think it's fairly handy to have that. With it, users can see what the wiki has to offer, so they will obviously be more impressed, and more interested ;).
- Combining the News sections. The Wiki news isn't as important to most Scratch members without a Scratch Wiki account - so instead, it will just have the 3-4 latest Scratch News summaries, which can include any *big* Scratch Wiki news (like milestones). Then, in the bottom-right, it will link to the "Current Events" page. In the current events page, it will have 1-3 articles for each category (Scratch Curator, Scratch Design Studio, Scratch Team Blog, Scratch Wiki, etc.) - and more in-depth info for each. Then, on that page, on the bottom-right, it will link to the archives.
- Keeping the Featured Article and Featured Image sections. I'm not 100% sure on keeping these, so we can decide if we should.
- New Headers. I was thinking very hard about how to make something good to make the titles stand out, and I got this idea. It was tough to figure out how to do it, but I got it. The one thing though, is that previously, I had the idea, of having the Scratch Cat and Gobo at the top. But also, I wanted to make the headers unique, so I thought about having the headers with the Scratch Cat (and possibly gobo). So what do you think we should do? Which should we keep? Or should we keep both? Or should we remove them both? I personally think we should have the Scratch and Gobo at the top as it is, and have no Scratch Cat head on the headers.
- Other. Possibly we could have an "Introduction" section at the top, and it would have some quick links for information on the wiki, and how to become a Scratchapedian (or is it Scratchepedian?).
So yeah - tell me what you guys think! Including:
- Overall opinion on changes
- Changes you don't want to have be made.
- Opinion on keeping/removing Featured Article/Image
- Opinion on headers
- Opinion on "Scratchapedians".
Thanks! :)

- 1. I think that layout looks much better than our current one, as it fits in more with the Scratch website.
- Yay!
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:57, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yay!
- 2.I think the news should be combined on the front page, with specific news for the Scratch WIki and other places on another page. So yeah, I don't really go against any of the changes.
- As far as me understanding what you're saying, for this wiki's main page, use "Main Page", and for the front page of the Scratch Website, use "Front Page" - that would help :). But it's great that you like the changes :)

- 3 I think we should keep the featured article/image. One, it is included on the majority of wikis, and thus it would make sense to have it on this one. Two, new scratchers will be able to better explore the wiki through these featured articles/images.
- Ok - cool :). I wasn't really sure - but it's good to know your opinion :)

- 4. I prefer that the Scratch cat be removed from the headers, as it is kind of redundant to have that.
- Yeah - I was thinking the same.
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 19:57, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah - I was thinking the same.
- 5 Uh, what exactly is a Scratchapedian?
- Just like how a person who uses Scratch is called a Scratcher, a person who uses the Scratch Wiki would be called a Scratch(a/e)pedian! :P. Just look at Wikipedians for example, and Wikipediholics (people who use Wikipedia too much and are obsessed with it :P).

- I don't mind the current page (I rather like it), but I like the sandbox one as well. :)
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 07:19, 27 May 2010 (UTC)- Having a featured article and image is a bit silly for Scratch's official wiki, in my opinion. ^_^
- Ok - cool! Thanks for your opinion on that.

- What's a Scratchapedian?
- See my reply to Mkolpnji :)
Lucario621 (talk | contribs) 20:05, 27 May 2010 (UTC)- ? I wasn't asking the bit about featured articles and images being silly and asking what a scratchapedian was - only said the first sentence about not minding the current page... :/
Chrischb (talk | contribs) 07:28, 28 May 2010 (UTC)- Sorry - I was kind of confused, because your message and Jonathanpb's message were kind of mixed together, so it was hard for me to tell...

- 1. Both designs are just as good. :)
- Interesting... :P

- Interesting... :P
- 2. See 3.
- 3. On the official Scratch Wiki that people will be going to for information, it seems odd to have a featured article/image. :/
- Definitely - plus it uses up a bit of space, that could be used for other things. I definitely see your point.

- 4. Um... maybe as Mkolpnji suggested, removing the Scratch Cat from the headers? No, wait - maybe just fading out the cats a bit? They look too sharp. :P
- Yeah, originally I was going to have it slightly transparent - but I sorta got lazy :P.

- I'm so glad that you and JSO are good at HTML - otherwise, we'd have a terribly bland Scratch Wiki. :P
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:20, 27 May 2010 (UTC)- Hehe, yeah. I bet you guys could probably learn it (HTML) too, along with CSS, as that's what this wiki uses - plus maybe Javascript, but even I haven't done that yet. But overall, it's just a new, interesting markup to use, and it's very easy to learn; a tutorial can be found here. There's multiple chapters to it, plus it has nice resources like a list of codes to use, and a color picker/mixer for html colors :). But for the most part, we want to make it so even basic Scratch Users can learn how to use this wiki, just by using the help pages and Wiki-code.

(picture removed - Lucario621 saw it already)
Is that okay?
Jonathanpb (talk | contribs) 09:08, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think we'll just stick to having no cat.
- I'll move the stuff in the sandbox to the main page - to see how it looks :)
