scratch.org is a domain used for hosting static pages about Scratch; mainly pages that do not feature user-generated content and are intended to change infrequently; such as the Community Guidelines and the ability to download the offline editor. The site uses WordPress,[1] and as a result is easily editable by anyone on the Scratch Team without requiring code changes.
History
Prior to Scratch 2.0, many pages such as the Community Guidelines were hosted on info.scratch.mit.edu, a private wiki which could only be edited by the Scratch Team and trusted Scratchers.[2] With the release of Scratch 2.0, info.scratch.mit.edu was retired and the vast majority of the most important pages, such as the Community Guidelines, About page, and Download page, moving to the Scratch site itself, with the rest of the less important pages, such as Scratch 1.4 Source Code, moving to the Scratch Wiki.[3]
On 6 June 2024, a similar idea was used: scratch.org was launched,[4] which was a WordPress site that could easily be graphically edited.
In early November 2024,[when?] the site was taken down unannounced, and as of January of 2025, it currently redirects to the Scratch Foundation's website at https://scratchfoundation.org. A Scratch Team member later clarified that the information on the website was being reorganized, and it was not being shut down.[5]
