This article is about abbreviations on the Scratch Forums. For general abbreviations, see Abbreviations on Scratch.

This is a list of terms, abbreviations, and acronyms on commonly used on the Scratch Forums (as well as other forums), to help Scratchers understand posts better.

Many non-Scratch specific terminology listed here are widespread across the Internet.

  • BaG: Bugs and Glitches forum
  • BBCode: Markup language for forums
  • BRB: Be Right Back
  • BTW: By The Way
  • Bump: Bring Up My Post, used to bring posts to the top of the list in the forums.
  • BYOB: Build Your Own Blocks. This term isn't used much anymore, as it has been replaced with Snap!

C

  • CC: Coloring Contest, a type of contest in which participants have to color the provided line art
  • Ceebs/CB: Ceebee (Scratch Team member)
  • Collab: Abbreviation for Collaboration
  • Constructive: Benefiting something

D

  • DMC: Draw My Character, art contests where users entering a DMC must draw the hosting user's OC or character.
  • DTA/D2A: Draw to Adopt
  • Dupe/Duplicate: Marking a Duplicate post of an earlier topic, used to guide users to an original topic

F

  • F4F: Follow 4 Follow, when two Scratchers request to follow each other
  • FAQ: Frequently asked question(s)
  • FNAF: Five Nights at Freddy's, a horror game that became very controversial, and is currently limited on Scratch
  • FOR: Follow on Request, when a Scratcher requests another Scratcher to follow them
  • Forumer: Forum user
  • FPC: Front page curator
  • FPCA: Front page curator application
  • FPS: Frames Per Second, when rendering something with the pen, such as a raycaster
  • FTW: "For the Win!"; showing that something is very well done.
  • FYI: For Your Information

  • GTG: Got To Go/Gotta go

  • IDC: I don't care
  • IDK: I don't know
  • IIRC: If I Recall/Remember Correctly
  • IKR: I know, right?
  • IMHO: In My Humble/Heart's/Honest Opinion
  • IMO: In my opinion
  • IRL: In real life

  • /j: Joking
  • JK: Just Kidding

  • LOL: Laugh/Laughing Out Loud

N

  • n00b: Newbie (novice); 'noob', 'newb', and 'nub' are all variations of it. The use of this can be considered offensive, and as such, it should not be used to describe others.
  • Necropost: When a post is posted on a topic that has sat for a long time without activity.
  • Ninjaed/Ninja'd: When someone posts more or less the same thing right before someone else, usually by only a few seconds. Also known as Outposting
  • No Support: A user saying, "I disagree", usually used in the Suggestions forum. Also known as -1.
  • NS: New Scratchers (forum) or New Scratcher Status.

O

  • [/offtopic]: Get back on topic, the conversation has strayed
    • This is meant to resemble closing BBCode: a tag with a slash inside brackets generally means ending some property, in this case, offtopic-ness.
  • OC: Original character, a character which belongs to a particular user
  • OMG: Oh My God/Goodness/Gosh
  • ONG: On God, used to express that you are telling the truth
  • OP: Original post/poster
  • Outposted: See Ninja'd

P

  • P2See/P2S/P2C/Paddle: Paddle2See (Scratch Team member)*
  • PFP: Profile Picture
  • PG: Prize giver in a competition organized
  • PI: Project Ideas forum
  • PMV: Picture Music Video, a music video that only uses pictures to tell the story.
  • PoTP: Prince of the Page, the second poster on a single page.
  • PPTBF: Propose Projects to be Featured, a studio the Scratch Team looks at to possibly feature projects

Q

  • QaS: Questions about Scratch forum*
  • QotP: Queen of the Page, the first poster on a single page.
  • QuickReply: Project designed to make forum use easier by giving copy and paste replies based on selections. These are generally seen as unconstructive.

  • /s: Sarcasm
  • /srs: Serious
  • SaT: Show and Tell forum
  • SDS: Scratch Design Studio
  • Shop: A forum thread where a Scratcher can get resources on request.
  • Sig/Siggy: Short for signature
  • Speak/SV: Speakvisually (Former Scratch Team member)
  • ST: Scratch Team
  • Sticky: A topic that is placed permanently or semi-permanently at the top of a forum/category.
  • Support: A user saying, "I agree", usually used in the Suggestions forum. Also known as +1.

T

  • TBC: To Be Continued
  • TBD: To Be Determined/Decided
  • TBG: Text-Based-Games, Text-Based Games Forum
  • TBH: To Be Honest
  • TFH: The Forum Helpers, a studio for constructive forum users
  • TiMaC: Things I'm Making and Creating Forum
  • TiRaP: Things I'm Reading and Playing Forum
  • TOLORS: The Official List of Rejected Suggestions
  • TOLORS quoter: Project designed to automatically quote The Official List of Rejected Suggestions and allows Scratchers to copy-and-paste parts of it to reply a rejected suggestion in the Suggestions forum.
  • TTYL: Talk To You Later

U

  • Unconstructive: Not benefiting something

V

  • VAO: Voice Acting Order; usually used in project names. VAO for username.
  • var: A variable
  • VAR: Voice Acting Request, to request something from a Scratcher. Can I have a VAR from you?

W

  • WIP: Work in progress, draft

Other

  • @Username: the following text is directed towards the specified user, e.g. "@Username: That's a good point!"
  • +1: See Support
  • -1: See No Support
